Rating: Summary: Roald Dahl's twisted tale of the terrible Mr. & Mrs. Twit Review: One of the very important things this book teaches you is that if you have ugly thoughts, it begins to show on your face. That explains why Mrs. Twit, who always carries a walking stick with which to beat people, is the ugliest woman you have ever seen. However, Mr. Twit, with his dirty beard encrusted with bits and pieces of every meal he had every eaten, is even worse. Fortunately, these two horrible people spend most of their time making each other miserable with twisted practical jokes involving things like a glass eye, a frog or a bunch of balloons, as you will discover when you read this book by Roald Dahl. But then we learn that Mr. Twit likes to catch birds for Wednesday's Bird Pie dinner and that his grand plan is to train four monkeys kept in a cage in the garden to become The Great Upside-Down Monkey Circus. This is not a good thing. Not at all. Fortunately, this particular family of monkeys, named the Muggle-Wumps, are aided by the Roly-Poly Bird in turning the tables on the Twists. When I was reading "The Twists" as part of my most recent second-childhood, I thought this was a relatively minor Roald Dahl story, enhanced by Quetin Blake's zany illustrations. But when I found out the great plan of the father Muggle-Wump for the Twits and realized the Dreaded Shrinks were not simply a figment of Mr. Twit's imagination, I decided this was really just another one of his wonderful books and that I should have known better than to doubt him.
Rating: Summary: The Twits by Roald Dahl Review: Roald Dahl's book called The Twits is the best book written. Mr.Twit and Mrs.Twit are not a happy couple. They play nasty tricks on each other. Rating: Summary: Great, mischievous fun for kids young and old Review: I actually read this one out loud to my daughter not once but twice, first in 1993 when she was living with me in Chicago, and then again in 1994 over the phone when she was living in Massachusetts with her mother. If I had not heard from other sources that Roald Dahl was not an especially pleasant person, I believe that I could have guessed this from his books. There is a bit of inspired nastiness in all of them, but this one might be the nastiest of the bunch. THE TWITS is the story of a married couple who brood on new ways to make the life of their spouse as miserable as possible. Dahl's genius is to create utterly unique ways for two people to play bizarrely original and extravagant dirty tricks on one another. My daughter loved this both times I read it to her (after she learned to read on her own, she reread it on her own), and I have to admit that I enjoyed reading it to her. This might not be good for all parents, though it is certainly great for nearly all kids. If you are the kind of parent who believes Bart Simpson inspires kids to be bad, skip this one. But if you want to have a really great time with your kid, read them this one. Even now, as I remember my daughter's reaction to hearing Mr. Twit convince his wife that she had the shrinks, I get a little twitter (no pun intended) inside.

Rating: Summary: Disgusting! Dirty! Delightful! Review: Meet the Twits, THE most disgusting couple in all of England... Perhaps even the whole world. Mr. Twit hasn't combed or washed his huge, shaggy beard in YEARS, and it's full of nasty bits of rotting food (the illustrator even has a close-up shot for those who really want to experience it!!). Mrs. Twit has a glass eye and years of thinking ugly thoughts has turned her into the most ugly woman one could imagine (this actually makes a good deal of sense, doesn't it??) The Twits hate everything, including each other. A plotting look from Mr. T provokes Mrs. T to put her glass eye into his beer. This causes him to pull a dirty trick on HER. Then back and forth, back and forth. Indeed, the author tells us we could go on like this forever with these two nasties. The book goes on to tell of the Twits's trained monkeys who are forced to stand on their heads for hours at a stretch, and of Mr. Twits's favorite dinner, bird pie (made by smearing glue on a dead tree and then cooking up every type of bird that gets stuck there). The monkeys go on to save flocks of birds and then play a most excellent trick on the Twits themselves!! The late Mr. Dahl is, of course, a genius of the wicked, strange and disgusting. This book is no exception! The Twits is a book that will make most grownups say, "ewww! Disgusting!" and most children say, "Hehehehe!! Cool!!" It's a fast-paced read and short, so it won't be intimidating to new readers. The illustrations are, like the story, frenetic and gross and therefore are a perfect compliment.
Rating: Summary: A really funny book Review: I like the main characters because they're so funny. I really like monkeys and so does Mr. Twit. The monkeys do tricks but they only have to do one trick and that's all. They just have to balance upside down on their heads. I think the theme is to not fight with each other. I think you should read this book because it's a really really funny.
Rating: Summary: Good But Too Short Review: This book is great, but it is too short. It is exciting.
Rating: Summary: the nasty twits Review: I liked the part where Mrs. Twit gets the shrinks. She goes crazy. Mr.Twit is exactly like his wife, instead of the shrinks, he gets wormed. Mrs. Twit plays a trick on him and put worms in his spaghetti. I would recommend this book because it is very crazy and funny.
