Summary: A few good thoughts but mainly just a lot of nonsense
Review: The information could have been presented in a more organized and useable manner. Not really useful for most people.

Summary: Clear, fresh & provocative book. Re-read it once finished
Review: The style of this book is really fresh, concepts are clear and extremely provocative. It's an invitation to imagination and breakthrough thoughts. Mind should fly high to keep you turning in a non stopping world, this book try to build on this and break your barriers to do so. What really strikes me is that sometimes you could think that Tom Peters is somehow exagerating or "selling you" too risky management ideas, however I trust him as far as when he talks about problems/situations I already faced he does it as a real expert, he knows what he is talking about.

Summary: Sure got dated fast
Review: This book epitomizes the silicon valley market-first, study-later (or never) approach that inflated the speculative high-tech market in the late 90s and subsequently left many of those innovaters and their investors out on the street.

To be sure, this book makes a lot of good points about the importance of pushing an organization for innovation and driving the top line. I once worked for a 150 year old company that was managed such that everyone who dealt with it became aware of its age. This would have been a good book for them. However, the overall approach seems too radical, even reckless, to me. Speed and change are of course desireable, often, but when businesses take gambles, they do so with other people's money and livelihoods. The book was lacking in solid advice about how to implement quick change thoughtfully.

I also didn't appreciate the writing style. The "slides followed by commentary" layout was okay, although I don't think it added much. But the prose was so informal and cutesy that it made the book unnecessarily tedious to read. ("Read. R-E-A-D. Yup, that's what I said, READ! And I mean it." That kind of writing.) My two-year-old enjoyed the photos.

It was worthwhile reading this book for its perspective, but sitting here in the fall of 2001, I can only give it a half-hearted recommendation.

Summary: Good and original
Review: This book is both good and original. The part that is good is not original, and the part that is original is not good.

Summary: The magic abracadabra for today's corporates-INNOVATION.
Review: This clearly is the best book on business strategy i have so far read in the 23 years of my life. i am extremely fortunate to do a critical review and class presentation of this book with ohp slides as part of my coursework and as a subject of the MPIB diploma at the Symbiosis Institute Of Foreign Trade, Pune, India. I would like to take this opportunity to commend Mr tom peters for authoring such a thoroughly thought provoking book which has driven into me a lot of business ( and common ) sense which will definitely help me succeed in my career in the crests and troughs oftoday's volatile corporate world. Kudos to Tom Peters, MAY HIS TRIBE INCREASE!

Summary: A different perspective of the future of the business world
Review: This is a thought provoking book. You get either excited about the way Tom Peters look at the world of business, or you could get anxious or just plain upset and furious.

He talks about no rules, no strategy, no balance, one-man companies, all elements in the value chain are services, the death of the middle-man, no limits pleasing the customer, labels, labels, cv, talent, it's a woman's world, design is the next big thing, etc. In the end he summarizes his best advices and you better listen!

You don't necessarily have to agree with everything he says, cause he will shake your foundations and make you think about if you are doing the right thing; both as an individual and if you are managing a company.

It is the way he delivers his thoughts as well. This is not an ordinary textbook. It's full of pictures and TeXt splattered A-L-L o v e r the PAGES. It refuses to follow any standard structure. He seems to want to make a point or two...

Summary: Again, Tom pitches reality with a spark. Let's go.
Review: Tom has brought all his previous thoughts, mature and raw, together for a non-stop, explosive delivery. There's not a wasted moment on the tape. Liberation Management, The Tom Peters Seminar and Circle of Innovation are a powerful trio. I give them to business partners that I want to excel, along with me.

Summary: An Informal approach to practical and effective Managers
Review: Tom Peter's casual style makes the reading of this book enjoyable, entertaining and provides useful tips that provide managerial tools to face different circumstances. The book brakes with the traditional format and provides a glimpse of younger and less formal managerial styles and their applications in real life in order to achieve one's objectives. Most of the ideas and suggestions are definitely applicable for both the domestic and international scenarios for managers of all ages.

Summary: Tom Peters does what Tom Peters does best
Review: Tom Peters has been roundly criticised by some because some of the companies he's identified as excellent in the past have struggled - or failed - since. But that, in a sense, is exactly his point. The world is changing too fast for excellent companies to stay excellent without constantly innovating. More than just innovating - reinventing themselves.

This book is a kit for reinvention. Your company. Yourself. Break it up and rebuild it. Now. Before somebody else does it for you.
