Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Sound and Fun
Review: I have just completed a four year study of scripture ( Using the material from Paulist Press' - Denver Catholic Bible School ) in which I was firmly introduced to reading scripture in light of modern historical/critical insight and the Church documents of Vatican Two. I have come to learn agreat deal of scripture and what and how diferent commentators argue certain verses.
This tape series does not cover or go into depth on certain issues and clearly provides a very guarded and traditional ( almost at times anti-academic ) approach to scripture.
However, for the beginner or the devout like me it is a refreshingly direct and concise study which brings together a great deal of names and issues towards the big picture of Jesus and the Church of his believers ( all denoms but favoring the Catholic understanding ). The person new to scripture will love it, the person familiar with scripture can use it as a review and still get some insights, as well as , disagree with some of the conclusions drawn. Yet, even if you disagree it reminds you of what parts of the bible you wish to review in your personal study. It is a very good resource and can be used over and over.
