Summary: Makes sense!
Review: I find it hard to believe that Molly G. from New England is a nurse and didn't understand this book. It all makes perfect sense ~ and if you've changed to this way of eating you understand why. I have never felt better, looked better, or had more energy. Not only that, but my thinking is clearer and my concentration better. Maybe if Molly tries the diet this will happen to her as well and she will better understands the book's message.

Summary: How to Eat for Life: A Doctor's View of Diet
Review: This is probably the most comprehensive review of how our diet affects our life that I have ever encountered.

The authors have presented their case in an easy to read, yet fully detailed and referenced, book that should be mandatory reading for every person that cares about their health. The basics of human physiology and how we have evolved from our paleolithic "hunter gatherer's" diet to a modern "agricultural" diet are contrasted throughout.

The examples are clear, concise, and follow basic logic. The dietary lifestyle that they recommend is simple, easy to follow, and filled with great health benefits. Their simple plan, and the 5 nutritional supplements (Vitamin E, alpha-lipoic acid, Vitamin C, Magnesium and coenzyme Q10)they recommend, should reshape the FDA's view of the food pyramid!

Summary: What A Disaster!
Review: This was a terrible book! Couldn't understand it at first and I'm a nurse. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Even Amazon thought is was bad and they are selling it. I'm throwing my copy out rather than give it to someone else. That says it all.

Summary: The Protein Power Lifeplan
Review: Unlike other reviewers, I have not read previous books by the authors. I have read two other best sellers on low carb diet plans. I lost 22 lbs and became concerned about possible harm due to a fairly radical change to my diet. The Eades book provides the answers to my concerns about supplements to protect my overall health. Their historical perspective is excellent and the explanations of body chemistry as it relates to nutrition is also complete and informative. I believe readers will stick to a plan if they understand the reasoning behind it. At times I feel like I am taking a course in Anthropology and Chemistry, but the chapter summaries lighten up and help to clarify. This is the first time I have understood the role of free radicals. The Protein Power Lifeplan is the most complete diet book I have read. I am a registered nurse and have written a book, For Patients Only, on patient safety and will suggest this book for those who wish to diet safely.

Summary: Buy and read this book now!
Review: I got this book over the holidays and read it in 2 days! I had already read their first book, Protein Power, and was committed to following their recommended way of eating. But, after reading this book, I am even MORE committed. The Drs. Eades expain, in very understandable language, how eating certain foods damages our bodies. This is more than a weight-loss diet, it's a keep healthy diet!

Summary: Fascinating - much better than the last
Review: I found this book to be a great compliment to their first book. As fascinating as the first but with a wealth of new information that will make you really make you think about the foods that you eat. Goes way beyond diet and "low carbery" talking in detail about how to live a much healthier life. Obviously well researched and sure to keep their critics in a state outrage.

Summary: Oustanding Sequel to the Best Protein Diet Available
Review: Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades follow up the runaway success of their first book, Protein Power, with another avalanche of evidence that the conventional low-fat, high-carb diet is a huge failure.

Instead of simply rehashing material from their first book (as many diet authors do), the Eades expand on the Protein Power concept to help improve long-term success on it. From a fascinating trip through the human digestive system, to new, damaging information about artificial sweeteners, this book will forever change the way you think about the power of food.

For high-carb pundits who think humans have always been grain-eaters, the Eades' chapter on the latest paleopathological research settles the argument once and for all...we were hunters (and gatherers, but only on occasion) and our bodies are designed to thrive on protein and good fats.

The chapter on sunlight is also refreshing...shedding new (pardon the pun) light on its healing powers when used correctly. Read this chapter before you put on sunblock again.

In addition to these and other fascinating chapters on health, the doctors also have refined the Protein Power Plan itself. Anyone who says protein diets are too limited and boring need to read this new book. You'll see that the food choices are quite varied, and you don't have to be a dietary extremist to thrive on the plan (unless that's your choice). I've been on it for over 2 years---it's done wonders for me.

The book gets technical at times, but the effect is more engrossing than boring, I assure you. The summaries at the end of each chapter help condense the content into laymen's terms for quick reference.

The writing is on the wall. Protein diets are proving to be so overwhelmingly effective that it's simply a matter of time before the diet industry and the government throw out the horrifically unsuccessful "food pyramid." My advice is to get the paperback edition of Protein Power, and then a copy of the new Protein Power Lifeplan. If the doctors can't convince you of the powerful therapeutic effects of simple nutrition, no one can.

Five stars...and deep thanks to the doctors for restoring me to my high school weight while making me feel years younger.

Summary: Not Much New
Review: I found the book hard to follow and too scientific for the average reader. Most of it was a rehash of the previous book. Definitely not worth the money to me. I think the original "Protein Power" would be a better choice.

Review: I found this especially useful in planning the steps of weight loss maintenance.

Summary: Despite bad advice on the sun, a good plan.
Review: Another strong argument from the Eades pair on the insulin-lowering (and consequent benefits to the immune and other systems) effects of a low-carb diet rich in antioxidents and omega 6 fats.... or, "natural" eating. If you follow this plan to the letter, you will lose weight (as you will with any calorie reduction combined with increased exercise) and enjoy great health benefits.

The Paleolithic argument... well, they can get a little wacky romanticizing it. Exercises like "Defending the Camp?" "Bringing Home the Buffalo?" Am I the only one who found this hilarious? And then they warn against working out to the point of exhaustion. Yes, I'm sure our ancestors were careful to take it easy in their daily struggle to survive. Sometimes you can fall a little too in love with your own great idea (we are still Paleolithic humans) and get a little binary on it (everything paleolithic: good. agricultural: bad).

My biggest argument with the book is the authors' advocating lots of sun exposure (without burning, though)... I think they should make some sort of acknowledgement to the modern problem of depleted ozone layer and increased UVB/UVA radiation. I agree that at one time the sun provided merely benefits, but we've changed that, haven't we? Just as we haven't evolved to benefit from the Twinkie, we haven't evolved to reap only good things from today's sun. Just ask seasoned construction workers, who only in the past decade have begun burning. Scary. So, Drs. Eades: please be careful what you tell people regarding the sun. It ain't what it used to be.
