Rating: Summary: Incredible blend of horror and humor Review: Dean Koontz at his finest. I have never seen such a skill ful blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense, horror, and laugh-out-loud humor. On one page, for example, you will find an intense car chase scene interspersed with a hilarious dialog between the protagonist, his mother, and his companion.
As usual, Koontz displays his talents in his characterizations, descriptions, and up-beat ending. The conflicts between the Vietnamese and American cultures, as embodied in Tommy Phan, add an interesting touch.
A must read
Rating: Summary: Not typical, but very "Koontz" Review: As an avid reader of all the Koontz novels (albeit I haven't read Sole Survivor}, I thought I knew what to expect, but he "got me" once again! As always, Mr.Koontz does a wonderful job of character development, with a fast paced and suspenseful plot. The closer I got to the end of this book, the more I felt like a joke had been played on me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! After "Intensity" I felt as if I had been through a grist mill...after "Tick Tock" I felt as if I had been through an amusement park ride and was still grinning. This is'nt my idea of a classic Koontz, but for the regular reader it is a treat
Rating: Summary: Horror and Humor Should Not Mix Review: My first Koontz novel. It was not a bad experience although his writing style takes some getting use to reading. The book has some good horrifying moments and chills went down my spine at times. However the author would insert some humor blurb which would break the spell. An occasional giggle here and there is okay but it appeared the author got carried away with his own sense of humor. This is okay but the humor comes more in the center of the book and carries to the end. Sort of a let down after scaring you in the first part of the book. Too much like a 'B' horror film
Rating: Summary: Funny, Scary, Witty, A Great Mental Ride Review: I love Dean Koontz and I would have to place this book on the top 5 must read list of his works. I read it in one night and I couldn't put it down. It's funny, witty and off-beat. A change from his usual style but it still grips you in typical Koontz fashion and holds your attention from page 1 to the bitter end. Read it now and buy it for your friends
Rating: Summary: One of his best Review: I loved this book. it was scary and gross and funny at the same time. By the time I got to the last twenty pages, I was howling into my pillow to keep from disturbing the rest of the family. (For some reason, being woken by hysterical laughter at 3AM really makes them mad...
Rating: Summary: Good humor and fast pace make up for weak ending. Review: After the disappointing Sole Survivor, Ticktock brings back
some of the sheer fright that was seen in some of Koontz's
better works such as Midnight and Watchers. This book
mixes a supernatural thriller with some of Koontz's finest
humor. There are some scenes, mostly in the last half,
that will have you laughing as if Koontz was a gifted
comedy writer as opposed to a horror novelist. His flair
for humor, which has been seen on many occasions, is
the highlight of this book. As for the supernatural
thriller part, the book is fast-paced and quite excting
up until the very end. In my opinion, the ending was
too much of an easy way out of an otherwise increasingly
intense chain of events. A very good read though, and one
that shows more than Sole Survivor that Koontz still has
a lot more to offer his fans.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy and Unrealistic Review: This book was not the average Koontz book in my eyes. This book was more like a failed experiment by DK to be different
Rating: Summary: Ticktock - One of Koontz's best so far. Review: This book is definitely one of his best, as he adds great humor to this book, along with action, adventure, and of
course, his eerie horror. Scootie the dog definitely wins
a prize in this one! It's a must read!
Rating: Summary: This is the highlight of thsi writers career! Review: This is Dean R. Koontz' ultimate masterpiecem, a truly thrilling pageturner! He uses his imagination more then in any other book, and this book recalls the "screwball comedy's" of the 1930's! Fun, fun and more fun is what this book is. Especially if you are from Orange County and get the humor of the Vietnamese in Garden Grove(Little Saigon), it's all so stereotypical but true of "Garbage Grove." Tommy the lead charecter is our Asian Humprey Bogart from Newport Beach, his mother is your typical overbearring mother(who speaks in broken English, nice touch). Tommy's mother is well meaning, but causes trouble. This book has it all science fiction, monsters, a terrific love story, it's hilarious, and NEVER gets dull, an some Koontz books do. This is the one Koontz book I will read again and again, and this is the highlight of this writers career. Everything about his book is great, every single page! If you are a fun oerson who likes imagination and creativity in your reading then this book is for you, if your anal, you still should enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: The BEST Dean Koontz book ever! Review: I've tried to read other books like Whispers, but they didn't hold my interest. This book made me a fan of Kooonzt for it was a fast fun read, a real pageturner full of creative writing and it makes you use your imagination, it's got a great and romantic, and funny plot. If it weren't for thsi ver accessible book, I wouldn;t have gone back and read Whispers, and all the other Koonzt books, though none are a sgreat as this, all of Koontz' books are worth a read, this one deserves multiple reading, I'm on my 3rd copy now, I keep waerin' Tick Tock out. a great comprehensive read.
