Summary: To Good To Put Down
Review: I have to give it to Mrs. Roby, this was an excellent book. I advise anyone one that has read "Casting The First Stone" to read "Too Much of a Good Thing". And if you haven't read "Casting The First Stone" you need to, because it's an excellent read and the sequel is the "BOMB". Once again Curtis Black let the devil intervene, and cause more problems. I love reading Mrs. Roby books and I hope somehow she can come up with a sequel to the sequel.

Summary: Careful what you pray for
Review: TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING is the long awaited sequel to Casting the First Stone. Curtis Black, the man with a gift for gab, returns and is once again called to ministry. Members of his previous church - Faith Missionary Baptist Church - formed a new church called Truth Missionary Baptist Church and want the infamous Curtis Black to be their senior pastor. A stipulation: he had to be married within two years because it didn't look right to have a pastor who is single. He has been courting Mariah for six months and she prayed everyday hoping the fine Curtis Black would ask her to be his wife. So, in an effort to appease his board and regain his notoriety, he asked Mariah to marry him. Her prayers were answered, but shortly after marrying him, Mariah began to realize that she had to be careful of what she prayed for. She was now praying for a calm resolution to her personal dilemma.

The humiliation that previously caused Curtis to lose his family, his church, and his unborn child five years ago only proved to be a temporary restraint. His constant lust for women, greed for money, and need to have power remained ever present and were now leading him down the same detrimental path to corruption. Only this time, his wrath filters into his family and could possibly cause him to permanently lose not only his church, but also his 14-year old daughter Alicia, his 5-year old son Matthew, and one of his mistresses.

TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING is a novel that left lingering questions in regards to how much fiction the story is - really. It also serves as a lesson to those who believe that asking for forgiveness is justification for an act. In this eye-opening novel, you come to realize that forgiveness is truly granted when you finally realize that your indiscretions can (and will) have a lasting affect on the people around you. Mrs. Roby has a vivid imagination and pulled me into her story. TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING had my emotions rising and falling in intervals and is too good to pass up; it's a highly recommended read.

You won't be sorry

Summary: This is a page-turner
Review: Anyone who has read Kimberla Lawson Roby before knows how she gets down. Well the flow hasn't stopped. She is still doing her thing. I was so excited to hear that she had a new book coming out and was even more excited to find out she was bringing back Rev. Curtis Black.

This book grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. It makes you laugh, cry and get angry all in one. It definitely keeps your attention.

The characters are so many things, but you can relate to them all. You've been there, you've done that or at least you have thought about it. From Rev Black to little Matthew.

Go get this book and stop reading the review or you are missing out!! If there is one book to get this year "Too Much of A Good Thing" is it. I can't wait for her next novel. Keep up the good work Kimberla! You are truly blessed.

Summary: Back in the Pulpit
Review: He's back. Curtis Black, the philandering minister in Casting the First Stone, is back in the sequel, Too Much of a Good Thing by Kimberla Lawson Roby. Five years later, he is newly married and claims to be a changed man. He is now the pastor of the larger, more lucrative Truth Baptist Church. Also back is his daughter, Alicia, now a teenager and Curtis is learning about the saying, your kids will give you back double what you put others through. Curtis is certainly reaping what he has sowed. Alicia is quite a handful.

Curtis Black hears the call of God telling him to return to the ministry. Everything seems to be going well until he makes a phone call to an old friend and begins to take giant steps backwards. He cannot help himself, after all, his wife can not satisfy his sexual needs and Satan is jealous that he has returned to the pulpit and is after his soul. Curtis not only begins neglecting his longsuffering wife, Mariah, but also his teenage daughter Alicia. Alicia tries a variety of antics to garner her father's attention including skipping classes, failing in school and being rude to Mariah. She finds little results with these techniques so she takes it a step further and becomes involved with Julian, a young man she met in a singles chat room. She finds herself in a situation she cannot handle. Juggling his women, wife, daughter and trying to convince the deacons of the church to go along with his greedy desires, Curtis finds himself in a position to lose everything, again.

With characters you will love to hate, Too Much of a Good Thing is the perfect sequel to Casting the First Stone. Roby does an excellent job of using dialogue and narrative so that the readers feel like they are eavesdropping on the conversations between the characters. I especially like that the ending is not wrapped up in a nice little neat bow, but tragedy and self discovery leaves room for another story featuring Curtis Black.

Summary: Great read that's full of action.
Review: Too Much of A Good Thing is Kimberla Lawson Roby's finest novel to date. Nicely paced and well-plotted, the storyline continues to follow the antics of Pastor Curtis Black who is now married to Mariah. Curtis's new wife is happy, even though she's disappointed that Alicia, her teenage step-daughter, won't open up to her.

The happy marriage faces many challenges when Curtis Black wants to head Truth Missionary Baptist Church. Church business and other commitments weigh on Mariah's mind, and the choices made by Pastor Black threaten to uproot everything important to him.

Roby's fan will have a great time catching up with Curtis. Too Much of A Good Thing is humorous, emotional, and eye-opening; the only question you may have at the end of the book is Curtis's motivations for the questionable decisions he makes.

Roby shines in her latest novel and the book is highly recommended.

Summary: Kimberla Lawson-Roby has done it again
Review: THis was a great follow-up to "Casting the First Stone". Pastor Black just hasn't learned from his past transgressions. This time his selfish behavior affects not only his new marriage and maybe the cause of a tragic event to his daugher and almost cost's him his life.
One day the "good" Pastor will wake up and see finally see that "all that glitters ain't gold"...maybe he'll finally see that and get his ultimate comeuppance in the sequel.
