Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down Review: I found 'Casino' to be an exciting true life story of the real Vegas of the 70's & early 80's. Nicholas Pileggi, has written this book with obvious research and passion, painting a tremendous mental picture of the Mafia and thier control over Las Vegas.Excellent, I'd recommend it to anyone interested in true life mafia stories and Las Vegas life.

Rating: Summary: YAY! Book Review: I had read Wiseguys by the same author a few years ago and loved the book. Casino left a little to be desired. The book is hard to follow because it basically just a collection of facts and personal narrations from involved characters. It was fascinating to see different scams casino-workers have used in the past, and also to see how much influence the mob has in Las Vegas as a whole. My advice is read this first, then Wiseguy and you won't be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Read Review: I had to read the book after seeing the movie by the same name. It's interesting and well-written. Being a recreational gambler, I most enjoyed a statement from the author that went something like: "a casino is a financial institution specifically designed to separate a gambler from his money." So true.

Rating: Summary: The Olsen Casino Review Review: I read Casino by Nicholas Pileggi. It is a fiction book about The Mafia and how they run and operate a casino, by a series of pay-offs, and hits. Nicholas Pileggi also wrote Wiseguys, the book that was the basis for the movie Goodfellas. Casino is about how a Vegas casino is run, mob-style. It is basically two people running all of Las Vegas, Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal and Anthony Spilotro. Lefty was the front man and provided the smart and followed everything with close detail, and Tony was to make sure no one would get in Frank's way, by any means possible. He would have often have to kill people, or threaten them and their family. It would all go good just as long as every week, The Mafia bosses got their millions in skimmed cash from the casino. They had it down to a science and it could have lasted forever. But in the end both Frank and Anthony both messed up enough as to were the whole operation fell to the ground. This is a great book for anyone who likes reading or watching about the mob. This book is based on the movie of the same title, directed by Martin Scorsese. It stars Robert DeNiro, and Joe Pesci. The movie was made before the book, so if you don't like reading that much you can watch the movie and get the same experience. The characters in the book are hard to follow because there are so many, it helps to watch the movie first, like I did. I would recommend the book or movie to anyone, as it can appeal to any type of reader, and I enjoyed reading it and would do it again if I had the chance.
Rating: Summary: good story but movie was better! Review: i saw the movie before i read the book.the movie was excellent but the book was all right.i love the mafia!
Rating: Summary: This is true crime at it's best. Review: I totally enjoyed this book it is a great read. After completing it I was compelled to watch the movie, and I admit the movie was good but it just don't give the insight of the book. Also the movie changes all the names of the actual people involved and leaves certain parts out. All in all if you are looking for an enjoyable read go the the library or the bookstore and check this one out.
Rating: Summary: Casino Review: I was really excited about reading this book. I was living in Vegas and working at a Caesars, so to read about the history and lore of the city was intriguing to me. Yet, this book was hard to finish, I had to force myself to read it. It did not captivate me and I did not care what became of the characters. It was less than enjoyable and I was greatly disappointed. I find the real life experience of living and working in Sin City to be much more fascinating than reading about it.
Rating: Summary: Casino Review: If you want to know how the mob worked in the casino in the early 70's and 80's this book is it. Great book, loved it!
