Summary: Abook of growing up and living in the mob.
Review: A true story of Tony Spilotro and Lefty growing up and growing into their mob live and how it came between them. The book is an interesting insite in how the underworld will take you in and then dispose of you once you have outlived your usefulness.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A fascinating look into the mob's control over Las Vegas
Review: After reading Pileggi's first book "Wiseguy", I could not give this book a ten. This book does not quite read like a story, it is more of a collection of facts and quotes put into chronological order. The facts and anecdotes are quite intersting, however, and I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about the mafia. The facts concerning the skimming of the casinos by the mafia are quite entertaining.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A terrific ride
Review: After reading Wiseguy, I thought I would never be satisfied by another true-life mafia book again. Leave it to Pileggi to prove me wrong. Casino is not as good a book as Wiseguy, but I enjoyed hearing the story from many different sources (ie. Mafia team-members, FBI men, acquaintances). This helped to remind me that these were real people and these things were really happening. I don't believe that "Lefty" was an angel, and the testimonies by other people reinforced that belief. It's a shame that someone of such ability could sink so low in life and be treated like such a pariah for who he did business with. Allen Glick is another character that I was glad to learn more about after the ensuing scandal. Tony Spilotro got his come-uppance as should have been expected. If real-life crime fascinates you, Nicholas Pileggi is the author for you.

Summary: Great book, fasnicating true life crime story
Review: Everybody who likes true life/crime/mafia/Las Vegas stories will enjoy this book. Casino shows the develoment of the mafia and their business interaction between legal and illegal operations. I could not put it down once I started. It is fascinating to see what stories life can write and what bad can happen to bad people.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Cliched term, but, Couldn't put it down!
Review: Everything good that has been said about this book is true. It is vivid, engrossing, informative, and EXCELLENT. I love reading about the crime families and this story of Las Vegas was such a good idea. Kudos to Nicholas Pileggi! The movie, of course, was awesome, and it is hard to tell which one is the best in this case. But anyway, read this. You will be mesmerized. It's a magnificent tale.

Summary: A fascinating, breath-taking look at the Mob in Las Vegas.
Review: Expertly written and endlessly fascinating, author Nicholas Pileggi's Casino is a MUST for anyone interested in Las Vegas and the Mob.As difficult a book to put down as you'll ever find, with characters and events described therein that will linger in your mind for days on end. Nothing short of superb!

Summary: excellant
Review: great book deplicting the life of the people who secretly ran las vagas during the 1980s

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Pretty good read.
Review: I am a mafia buff and since I had already seen "Casino" it had only made sense to read the book. The book itself is very informative but I don't suggest it to someone who has NOT seen the movie. It is not very fluid and you can get easily confused with who's who. The characters change very rapidly and it's hard to keep up. I found myself rereading passages just to make sure I had everything correct. All in all it was a good read and I do recommend it for all who are interested in the subject.

Summary: Grossly overated
Review: I am appalled at the glowing reviews that I've read for this book. It is, quite simply, terrible. The pace of this book is hyper-kinetic. It's not possible to feel anything for any characters because you never get to know them. First person is fine if the person remains the same. In this book, it is almost impossible to tell who is speaking because it changes virtually every page. The reviews found on this web site seem to have as much validity as the blurbs written on any bestseller. If you want to read a mob book, read The Godfather. If you have already read it, read it again.
