Rating: Summary: This Book is Good Review: I started out reading this book with a v. doubtful perspective. i had bought it for ($$$) at half price books before reading any reviews. i then read customer reviews & it seemed nobody really thought it was any good. so perhaps because i was expecting to regret my purchase because the book was going to be horrible, i really & truly enjoyed this book. i appreciated how honest jude was in describing the heroine. she wasn't some amazing character that you couldn't relate too. she was poor & funny & a tired tired young mother. i appreciated how the 2 years past within the book & amy thought she had changed a lot but she really was just the same gal but with just a little bit more confidence. and how jason changed from a man who thought he knew everything to a man who was so tore up about a GIRL from a small town who married a (man) that he couldn't even think straight. true love does crazy things to a person & the only thing i didn't like about this book was how the reader is supposed to believe that a child is van gogh or a renoir or a monet at the ripe age of THREE! right!
Rating: Summary: Too bad! Review: I really hate giving low ratings on any book especially if it is written by one of my favorite author. However, this book simply gave me too many questions from front to end. I kept reading on to see if any of my questions would somehow be answered or perhaps my confusions be explained but yet the more I read, the more questions popped to my mind. I do like the herione, Amy. Her motherhood was heart warming. Her personality fitting. I am not sure about Jason, the hero. He wasn't well defined to fit my taste. The story wasn't detailed. The ending didn't leave any impact on me whatsoever. Although, there were one or two funny scenes and a couple more exciting twist, there is something quite not right about this book. I don't know exactly how to described it. Perhaps I just expected more out of this book considering it is written by J.D., one of my favorite authors. Reading the reviews here in Amazon, I must admit to agree that there were many scenes quite unrealistic in THE BLESSING... Buy the whole baby store just to scheme in giving the person one baby bedroom set? Buy the whole clothes store just to give away one Dior dress? Oh now.... There should be another way! ...another more realistic ways. I don't care how rich he is. It isn't practical. You'd know what I mean if and when you decide to read the book. I suggest barrowing it in the library instead of buying/keeping it in your collection. I also couldn't believe that a wealthy guy like Jason, from NY of all places, couldn't hire a right professional investigator to find Amy. Ok, she used her maiden name but isn't this the first thing investigator look into? I am always very open minded when I read my books. I'd like to let my imagination run free. I like to fantasize and I am normally good in dealing with far fetch plots. I don't even read between the lines because I like to explore all angles and possibilities...yet, somehow, this book didn't simply touch that part of me. Too bad! I really would have love to give this book higher rating but a 2 stars right now is even more generous.
Rating: Summary: A good heartwarming tale. Review: I read The Blessing in one sitting. I was very pleased with the story line and the characters. Every time that I read a book by Ms. Deveraux I feel as though I am sitting with her, drinking a cup of tea and listening to a story that she has to tell. She has the ability to draw us, her readers, into her world while giving us the chance to live a different life through her characters. Some may say that the plot was too unrealistic for their taste but that is what I love about Jude Deveraux's works. Many of her books have themes that are just not possible in reality as we know it. However, the point of reading a book of fiction is to be entertained. I do not need for everything in the books that I read to be grounded in reality because my fantasies are not grounded in reality. I love to escape for a few hours in a good book that touches my heart and makes me dream. To me that is the point of reading. Her books do that for me. This book did that for me. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and a desire to relax with a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: The Blessing was amusing and entertaining, but lacking. Review: Some people might find it unbelievable that a handsome and intelligent CEO would do the things that Jason did in "The Blessing", but I find it extremely believable. One never knows what tender heart lurks behind the "hard" mask portrayed in public. I enjoyed the way that Ms. Deveraux brought "Parker" to life. "Parker" responded to Jason as he responded to her -- nothing personal and all business. I believe Parker was in love with Jason, but he was so focused that he never even realized it; not that it would have made a difference. Jason appreciated her skill, but not her feelings. When I read novels, I read for escape and relaxation. It saddened me that Ms. Deveraux chose to have Amy "run from" the truth, rather than work it out. As a result of her running, two people who cared very much for each other lost two years of their lives together -- not to mention Max losing out on a great father figure. I know, I know, it's only a book -- but in times past Ms. Deveraux has outdone herself with her wit and story line. "A Knight In Shining Armor" is an example of her work and incredible gift as a writer. I cried for days after reading "A Knight" because the story that she wove for her devoted readers was some of her best work ever.
Rating: Summary: And I'm being generous with 2 stars, should be 1.5 Review: Here is a warning: Do not read this book, it's horrible. The entire time I was reading THE BLESSING, I was wanting it to be over. It was so bad that I don't even remember what it was about.
Rating: Summary: Not a Bad Read Review: The book had too much fanasy for me. A woman in her right mind would never have allowed a stranger to move into her house and often be given the sole responsiblity for an infant child. David showed extreme immaturity in the way he went about arranging "private time" with the women he claimed to love and wanted to marry. He also hated the child who was only 6 months old. After I made myself realize it was just a book and not real life, I found the story very touching and began to enjoy reading the book. It has a wonderful ending but I thought the outcome would never come together.
Rating: Summary: I can't believe the ratings this book received Review: I really liked The Blessing. In fact, it was so good, that I read it in a day and a half. The whole story was great. It had humor as well as romance. It is worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Ah, blessings. 3 1/2 stars. Review: I know that this got poor reviews, but I actually liked it! I thought the love story was cute. Jason's attatchment to Max was believable and heartwarming, and thought his love Amy was real and touching. They both had flaws, her extreme pride, and him thinking he could buy everything. What really bothered me about this book was when Amy left him after finding out he was rich. She had no money, no job, nothing, and she just picks up and leaves in the middle of the night in the middle of the winter with her son for NYC? And keeping her son hidden from his Grandma? Um, no, I don't think so. She wanted to prove to herself that she could making a living for her and her son. I did love the changes Jason made. He went from anal Big Time Mr. New York, to trying to restore his hometown and help the children there, helping with education and providing jobs for hard on their luck families. He never forgot her, she never forgot him. What will happen when they meet again? When he finds out she was the one who was hired to paint his library? There was some pretty cute dialogue in this story, and their "arrangment" was an amusing one. I wouldn't give this more than 3 1/2 stars, though. I know she can do better that this.
Rating: Summary: Who wrote this? Review: This book is so amateurish it's hard to believe it was written by Ms. Deveraux.
Rating: Summary: Laugh out loud Review: The book is fab. It is sappy sweet, kind and funny with a capital "F". It is fantasy it is great. BUY BUY BUY. Modern and no historical scenes. All I can say this is the first time I woke up fellow passengers on the plan by laughing out loud so many times. BUY IT in hardcopy because you will read it again, again and again.
