Rating: Summary: A memoir of the human heart... a drama of the highest order. Review: This story touched me in so many ways. For anyone who has found someone they completely love, the thought of losing them is almost unimaginable...but was a part of the story of Betty Schimmel. Overriding her entire narrative is the fact of how absolutely terrible the Holocaust was and how it affected millions of lives that might have been different had the holocaust never occurred. This story will touch anyone who reads it and will make you realize how lucky you are.
Rating: Summary: One of the most touching stories I have read Review: This story touched me in so many ways.
Rating: Summary: A memoir of the human heart... a drama of the highest order. Review: To See You Again celebrates life and love in a time of war and betrayal. This book touched me in so many ways, and it made me glad to know that there was still some goodness in the world, even in a time of so much suffering. Betty's life was described in heart wrenching detail, and you felt as if you were there with Betty...laughed with her...and cried with her. I started to cry when I read this book during my 8th period class, and my tears probably didn't go unnoticed, then again, the people beside me would probably agree if they read this extraordinary true story.
Rating: Summary: hooked till the end Review: To See You Again is one of those rare books that actually keeps you hooked till the very last page. An unbelievable story of love and survival against extreme circumstances in Hungary. After reading the book I passed it on to my mother who had the same experiences of a book well worth it's 5 star rating. A book that gives you one of the most important gifts hope, and it is hope for the impossible which keeps you reading, brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Unlike any other Holocaust book Review: We tend to think that every one of the 6 million could have been a Nobel Prize winner, but the tragedy is that we lost so many decent, normal people who couldn't experience every little wonderful detail of life. These are the people who add color and character to the world. Betty is one of them: a young, sweet, naive kid who lost her adolescence and her hopes of just being married to the boy she was crazy about. This story is so very sad and extraordinarily riveting. Beautiful writing, just enough...following Betty and her family through the war and then along the 60 years that have followed. She has amazing guts...as much as her dear mother.
Rating: Summary: A terrifically moving story that celebrates life & love! Review: When most people think of war or the Holocaust, they probably don't immediately realize the very unique, personal stories that play out against the backdrop of the larger conflict. This book tells several such stories from the point of view of a young woman who was lucky enough to survive the worst kind of horror man can create. The pages not only describe interesting events from the Eastern European campaign of World War 2, but they contain a love story that operates on many different levels. People of the present generation may find the story in its totality hard to fathom, believe or empathize with, but the days lived by the author were during a different time when life was simultaneously cheap and valuable. Betty Schimmel is an incredible woman, and if her husband, Otto, wasn't Jewish, I think he could qualify for Sainthood. Buy this book. You'll learn something important while being deeply touched.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: Wonderful story and so very tragic what people went through during that very dark time in history. With all due respect to everyone in the family, I would like to say how very sad that Otto went his whole life loving Betty so deeply and so unconditional.I believe his love for Betty was stronger than her and Richie's love put together. For he endured not only the suffering during the war but, also the suffering of knowing his wife was in love with another man.How lucky she was to have had such a wonderful and loving husband.Otto was the kind of husband most women pray for. She was very fortunate woman! However, my heart DID go out to her and her pain, I just felt the happiness she was searching for was always right there beside her.
Rating: Summary: very juicy!!! Review: Wow. That was a good book! I liked it a lot. I thought it was very good. It was just interesting and juicy! I also thought that was interesting how a few people in the reviews knew her. Well I would recommend it to anyone.
