Rating: Summary: A Life changing book full of historical information. Review: Reading this book changed my life and helped me learn to cherish the liberties and love in my life. To See You Again : A True Story of Love in a Time of War is a valuable historical account that shares what it was like to live through an ordinary day in an extraorinarily horrific time.I couldn't put this book down. It was enlightening to read an honest and graphic account of life in the war torn city of Budapest as well as accounts of life in the Ghetto, concentration camps and a death march. The love story encapsulated in this book is enthralling, sweet and touching. This book teaches the reader that life, love, and faith have the power to overcome hatred and horror. Betty Schimmel was a bit self serving at times but anyone with a spirit and sense of survival as strong as hers is truly a important person. This is a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: The human spirit endures Review: Thank you, Betty, for sharing your story with the world and for showing us how love can sustain the human spirit in a time of hell on earth. My heart went out to everyone in your life, and I only wanted your suffering to end. A deeply moving love story.
Rating: Summary: "To See You Again" the Minus Points Review: The book was interesting. I feel at least one fourth could have been omitted. Very slow moving. After all she went through in the Nazi camps, the near starvation, the treatment, moving from place to place, she married a man she was not in love with. Though he was very good to her and loved her deeply, she did nothing but whine and complain about her "lot in life." She did not complain when in the camps; why now? Nothing seemed good enough for her in their marriage. Only at the very end did she choose to honor and revere her husband. Perhaps all her strength during the "Nazi camp" days came from her mother alone?! A book you can pick up and turn 5 pages forward and never miss a thing.
Rating: Summary: I am a holocaust survivor, too Review: There are so many confliciting reviews, I just had to read this book and write this review. I knew the author, many years ago in Europe. Although we did not know each other before the war in our native Budapest, we were in the same camp. We are about the same age. I knew her then -- and her family. Betty [her American name] was a young girl, whose idealized life was torn apart. Her love for Richie kept her hopes alive as much as her dear Mother kept her body alive... and perhaps her faith kept her soul alive. She was ill in the camps, perhaps often delirious. Many of us were -- with death, sickness and hunger as our constant companions. I can't blame her for her obsession with her first love -- I am sure her maturity was arrested at the same time she was taken away. So, she got older, but remained 15 for many many years. You cannot imagine the horrors we endured -- Schindler's list is a "Disney-like" version of our experience. All Holocaust survivors are deeply damaged souls. We are not "normal" in any sense of the word. Luckily, in later life, Betty finally learned what true love is, and her {also deeply traumatized} husband stuck with her -- through her troubled life and even now... even as she painted such a unneccessarily cruel and negative portrait of him in her book... he must be a very sad and very special man. This book will not win any great awards. It is just one story -- one about a very spoiled, self-centered and foolish girl who is REAL. She did live the life she described -- I know that for certain -- and she had the nerve to admit it to the world. Don't criticize her, understand her.

Rating: Summary: To See You Again: A True Story of Love in a Time of War Review: This book left my heart broken and my eyes open. I felt close to "little face" the whole time . The story is about her first and true love. How her life was changed forever because of the holocaust. How she lost her love. The book is so detailed that you feel as if you were there with her.
Rating: Summary: LIfe, Love, and Family During the Time Of Need Review: This book was excellent! I would have never read this book if i didnt need an biography book for school. Im 15 years old and i loved it, I never knew what they went threw durign that time but i know a little now more then i did. I only wish that she found her true love when she lost him and married him instead of Otto. I wish they could have had the life they wanted with each other and had the love they had when they where my age. I wish all of the good luck with your life Betty and I hope the rest is with love. *~Ashley Gonxalez~*
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Book!! Review: This book was so amazing!! It grabbed you right in the beginning. A young girl growing up in the horror of the Holocaust and how that affected her whole life. I couldn't put the book down and the ending hit made me cry for hours. After finishing the book, I couldn't stop thinking about Betty and her struggle. As children, we all read Anne Frank's diary and we saw the horror of the Holocaust and how it ended a young life. In Betty's book, we see how the Holocaust changed her life forever. My main thought while reading the book was how different her life would have been had she been born at a time of peace. I recommend this book to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Fact or Fiction? Review: This IS a great book, no doubt. A real page-turner. But a true story? Maybe just loosley based on the truth. An inside source (yes, a friend of a friend) knew Betty Schimmel during her years in Budapest & after. This source claims Betty Schimmel never spent even a day in a concentration camp and says she spent her time at the Swiss safe house in Budapest. Kind of makes you wonder about some of the amazing coincidences in the book. Still worth reading -- but don't believe everything you read.
