Summary: Basic and Solid
Review: I have a small computer repair shop . . . really, just myself and my friend. I'm PCs and he's Macs. And we wanted a way to get the word out. Boom! Cousin gave this to me as a birthday present. Lots of solid ideas. Not every idea we've tried has worked out, but enough have to more than justify the cost. I also used Mike Levine's Guerrilla pR: Wired. Between the two of them, things have definitely grown better.

Summary: An Easy Read
Review: This book has some incredible tips, but some of them are pretty common sense. Still, this is a great read with proven results. I am working my way through the list, and so far many of them are working. The important thing is to pick and choose what tips are right for you and your business. I also liked Guerrilla PR by Michael Levine. Read both to be really well rounded.

Summary: page turner
Review: The lost cost self-promotion tips given in this book were extremely useful to me when I started my own business. This book, along with Guerilla PR Wired by Michael Levine, covered practically every aspect that I needed to know for successful self-promotion.

Summary: Great book on self promotion
Review: I am a big believer in the knowledge economy and the fact that a greater percentage of Americans are increasingly starting their own business based on what is inside their head (what they learned in college and their later work-related experience.) They are "Free Agents" as the book Free Agent Nation puts it.

If you are an attorney, dentist, engineer or any small- or home-based business owner you should look into this book as this book is IDEAL for entrepreneurs. Some ideas are fairly obvious, some are easier to implement than others but many ideas in the book were very creative. If you implement just one of these ideas the book pays for itself many times over.

I give the book 4 stars because, while it is an excellent book on self promotion and marketing, it didn't cause a paradigm-shift for me which is what I am now utilizing as my criteria for 5 star books (ie. I don't see the business world any differently than before.)

Within the field of marketing the author definitely gave some innovative and useful ideas. I have already begun to implement a few of her ideas and I believe that I will refer to this book often in the future. For those international buyers I would note that the book is written from an American perspective so many of the references or suggested sources won't be of much value.

Summary: MARKETING IDEAS ALL IN ONE BOOK
Review: I only rate it four stars because I myself am a sole proprietor and it does help to have a book with a bunch of marketing ideas all in one. I do admit that some of the ideas for a sole proprietor is a little far fetched, but I reference it all the time to get some ideas going to market my services. I would still recommend it for those starting a business.

Summary: This book is dogeared
Review: I refer to this book often after I have creating marketing strategies for my clients. Raleigh has done the work to uncover myriad ways to promote...and invariably, when I need inspiration in that regard, I open the book and something interesting jumps out at me. This is not a book to read once and put on the shelf...it's to be used. Thanks, Raleigh!

Summary: This book is dogeared
Review: I keep my copy of this book on my desk and refer to it often when "smarketing" my clients and their requests for marketing strategies. Raleigh has done the work to uncover the myriad ways to promote...and invariably, when I need inspiration, I open the book and there it is!

Summary: 101 Ways to improve this book
Review: Well, not 101, but...

1. Come up with original, fresh ideas

2. Don't assume your customers have no taste or are stupid. My customers are intelligent, I treat them as such.

3. Not everyone is entirely focussed on customers in their local community. A large % of the tips are only suitable if your customers live in the same area as you do. Mine don't - this is the Internet age, I run a global business from my house.

4. Make practical suggestions. There are so many tips in this book on what to put on your business card, I'll need an A4 card, and a very tasteless one at that, to implement them all. How about "simplicity".

5. Not everyone lives in America. The ideas are very USA-centric.

Summary: if you run a small retail-focussed business (perhaps 3 - 10 employees) in a small to mid size US town, this is the book for you. If not....

Summary: BEST Marketing Book I have read
Review: I have been in business for over 10 years and with all of the books I have read, none have given me the to-the-point tips and resources that I can implement immediately as this book did. It is an easy read and you will find all of the resources and step by step directions to start any of your marketing projects. Well worth more than the published price.
