Rating: Summary: Disappointing and wandering, but with great pictures. Review: The story of her life seemed to wander all over the place, too long in some areas and too short in others. It read like Ms. Hepburn was sitting in a comfortable chair reminiscing about her life, but leaving out the juicy details.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Review: This book is just like Katharine Hepburn herself. Uniquely funny, unconventional, different and beautiful. I found the last three chapters to be especially the one simply titled 'Love', about her unique relationship with Spencer Tracy. Any fan of Hepburn, or of Hollywood's golden era must read this book. It was amazing.
Rating: Summary: A book with a lot of class by a lady with a lot of class! Review: This book was just FUN! After seeing Katharine Hepburn interviewed for years this book was like sitting down with her. It's as though you have been invited for a nice visit. Ms. Hepburn spins the tails of her life without over the top exaggeration and in her very matter-a-fact-style that her fans have come to love. If you are a Katharine Hepburn aficionado or you love the glamour of Hollywood golden age I HIGHLY recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: self-aborb Review: This is a egostict ramblimg, coherent only in the timeline of relationship. Its a voyer,s delight, a canidate for National Enquirer publication. This is not edifiying reading---it promote self (as noted by the book title), is not good reading and obcures the art of writing well. It may be a bestseller as noted by the New York Times Book List but there are also best selling magazines next to the supermarket checkout stand.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK! Review: This is the book that got me hooked on Katharine Hepburn. It is so good! It's a very interesting book. I recommend it for any Kate fan, or any one who likes to read period!
Rating: Summary: heard taped version and enjoyed it . . . Review: to the extent that i then got the book version to hear more of hepburn's story (the tapes were an abridgement), as well as to see the accompanying pictures . . . enjoyed fact that she did the reading . . . the one chapter on "love," depicting her feelings toward tracy, was poignant.
Rating: Summary: Five Stars for a Big Star! Review: What a dreamy life she led. Kate Hepburn warmed all of our hearts with her zest for life and rugged independence. This was one of the best audio books I have read in my life. It was powerful, having Katharine talk to me in her own voice in audio recording. I enjoyed hearing her talk about how Hollywood wasn't an easy road. She managed to get the breaks in the business that made all the difference.
Most impressive, I think, is her sincere and passionate letter at the end of the book to her late husband Spencer Tracey, who died back in 1967. "Spence" was the one man she loved the most in her life, and she was, till her final years, very puzzled by his character. She says Spence was a man who could express many personalities on stage, but ironically a man who was not so comfortable with himself. She agonizes over Spencer's restlessness and is sad about his insecurity that not many people knew about.
Kate also gives insight into some of the filmings of some of her great movies like "The Lake" and "On Golden Pond." She was also very fond of Henry Fonda, and wondered what he thought about on those long walks between filmings of "On Golden Pond."
What a marvelous woman. I know now why my mother likes her so much. I know it is cliche, but Katharine will live in our hearts forever. There will never be another Katharine Hepburn.
