Summary: Boost your vocab
Review: after reading another review, i purchased these tapes. there are two tapes each 90 minutes. the first 45 minutes is 360 vocab words in no particular order. listen to it in the car and you'll find your vocabulary skyrocketing. without even consciously working on your vocabulary, you'll find yourself looking at everyday objects and unconsciously saying the polish word for the object you see. the tapes are no-nonsense and start from second 1 or the tapes with an english word, followed two seconds later with the polish word. highly recommended.

Summary: useful in a very specific sense
Review: As someone who wants to cram in some Polish before studyign there next semester, I think this volcab. tape is useful in a very specific sense. i.e.,

1. It's useful for me to listen to the sound of the language, something that no dictionary or book can do. I can turn it on while I am cooking dinner, etc. and still trust that my subconscious is soaking up the sounds.

However,

2. This tape has English-Polish, Polish-English. So for half of one side of the tape, it will say 'the eye' (pause) 'oko'; and then for the second half say 'kobieta' (pause) 'the woman'. (The pause is designed for you to anticipate what is coming) This means that one can easily associate things with the wrong English word and you need to pay attention. It does come with a word list which you can read along with, and as a visual person I really appreciate this.

3. It goes without saying that this cannot help you with your grammer, nor can it help you produce sentances by itself. Particularly since Polish has so many cases and changes with tenses, etc, you wonder about the applicability of only recognising say, the infinitive verb with the sound when what you will need is the word with its right ending, in context. I wish it had conversational sentences instead of just single words or phrases.

Summary: A Poor way to learn Polish
Review: Dispite the authors assurances, I found it ineffective to try to learn words presented at random, or without logical groupings. Additionally, once you have commenced listening,it is easy to become confused about the word order of Polish to English or visa versa. Would definatly not reccomend this product.

Summary: Boost your vocab
Review: This is an exellent way to learn Polish. The audio tape is full of tons of useful words. The words are given in no particular order so you end up memorizing just the word and its meaning - it's pure vocabulary. Before you know it you're repeating the word in Polish before the tape does! This tape includes nouns, adjectives, verbs and expressions - all which are very helpful. All you have to do is concentrate and listen to the tape - before you know it you've increased your Polish vocabulary by leaps and bounds!
