Rating: Summary: A Good Read Review: Having read the Godfather and the Last Don, I was looking forward to reading Omerta and I enjoyed the book. It seems to be a simple story at first, the Don gets killed, and his family seeks revenge. Only this time the children are not part of the business as the Corleone kids and the one seeking vengenge is not even family. Astoree was raised by the Don to become a "man of respect" and his whole life is planned for him to acheive this. When the Don dies, Astoree steps up to fullfil his destiny and become the person he was groomed to become. We get to find out how a elaborate plan was hatched to kill the Don and also get to see how Astoree counters. There are some twists to the plots and at times the Dons kids charecters dont seem to fully develop, but I think that you the reader will finds this a very good read
Rating: Summary: OMERTA--DOWNER Review: I read the GODFATHER . This is no GODFATHEr. Horrible and boring. too bad. I was drawn in by the author's name.
Rating: Summary: Diminishing Review: Let's stop the series here, it's slow paced, uneventful, anti climatic. Maybe one third of the previous ones
Rating: Summary: Omerta Review: The book Omerta is a fiction book by Mario Puzo. It is his last book. The central theme of this book is death and revenge. The book (like all Puzo books) starts out as a flash back telling about all of his kids. It also tells in great detail about his nephew Astorre Violla. Then it moves on to present tense; the Don gets killed. Then the book goes on about how the kids track the killer. I found this book to be very interesting; it is amazing how cunning and lifelike the characters are in the book. This book, in my opinion, is a very true account of how the mafia really runs. The only fault I have with the book is the detail; I personally found it insulting how much he described what was going on. I guess it is being set up for a movie. I also think that this book raises the possibility for a sequel, to bad Puzo died. When I read this book it made me think about all of the underground things that are going on all the time we do not even realize. The guy who sells hotdogs in NY could be a hit man waiting for someone to pass by. I would definitely suggest this book to any one who knows how to read. I suggest those of you who do not to get the audio book. I will spark every ones interest no matter what you like. It really never gets boring there is always a twist in the plot. It contains the best of all the worlds.
Rating: Summary: Puzo Has It Till the End Review: Omerta is the second Puzo novel I've read. The story is a simple one of an aging Don in the USA who had prepared his nephew to take over the family; caring for it's interests and his children after he dies. The plot moves wonderfully with many twists and turns keeping you wondering what will happen next. It's definitely a great read.
Rating: Summary: Metza-metza Review: The Godfather was awesome, every bit as good as the movie, and I liked The Last Don a lot, too. So I was looking forward to Omerta. I was disappointed. Not totally disappointed, as there are some things about it that I liked. Puzo's tight prose reads well, and his descriptions of things ranging from food to chilling violence often carry you away. Parts of the novel, especially those that delve into the characters' histories, start to make them come alive. But there are other parts, and far too many of them, that are big letdowns. Not giving anything away, but one key character in the plot has a bombastically megalomaniacal motivation that feels very much out of place. The Don's children seem mere shadows of well developed characters - a far cry from the kids of Don Corleone or Don Clericuzio! At one point, a woman's dogs are killed and she says: "Our poor dogs!" It seems to me more likely she'd say "Oh, poor Spot and Rover!" and Puzo just didn't bother coming up with names for the ill-fated canines. About 8 zillion characters are described as "charming" - but they do nothing to convince the reader that this is an accurate assessment. ("Show, don't tell", every writing student is admonished. I wish Puzo had taken that advice.) The book's ending reads like the script to one of the countless lame action movies Hollywood foists on us. You probably won't hate it, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Rating: Summary: I read the Godfather, This is NO Godfather Review: This is the worst Puzo novel I have read. It is hard to believe that this is written by the same man who gave us Godfather, Sicilian, and Fourth K.
Rating: Summary: Certainly not his best, but worth reading anyways Review: I have to say that this book did not disappoint me (as many others wrote). Of course it can't match 'Godfather' but I enjoyed reading it very much and could not put it away. The plot is very capturing, though quite predictable, and easy to follow. A thrilling mafia story set up in NYC and Sicily - a must-read for all Puzo fans!
Rating: Summary: The Mafia: Part 3 Review: Part one was the Corleone's, then came the Clericuzio's then we end it on the Aprile's. This is a fine tale of greed, vengence and loyalty. The characters come out at you and thye come to life. The book is filled with good action, plot and dialog. However the problem is we have seen it all before. All in all it is a fine novel, good for a few evenings, and if you have never read Puzo before, it will be all new to you. Thanx for your time, T
Rating: Summary: Good read, but not Puzo's best work Review: As an avid reader with a fondness towards criminal literature, I found Omerta by Mario Puzo as an entertaining read. It's plot has it's ups and downs, but he managed to keep me interested and intrigued throughout the book. However, the plot and its outcome is overly-foreshadowed and the book becomes truly predictable in an almost negative way. However, if you enjoy Puzo's better works such as The Godfather and The Last Don, then I suggest Omerta is a good read, even if just for the entertaining nature and vivid imagery only Mario Puzo can conjure up.
