Rating: Summary: Way Cool! Review: This book was fabulous. Wilma is a loner (not popular) at her middle school Claverford Middle School. She meets an old woman on a subway who grants her one wish. Wilma wishes that she could be the most popular girl at Claverford. But will it last forever? I love how Levine really made you understand Wilma and her life as an 8th grade student.
Rating: Summary: Realistic, yet fantasy Review: Wow...The first time I read this book, I was touched. Everybody wants to be popular, like the main character did, but have you met anybody who lent a seat to an elderly lady on a bus and gets a wish in return? Wilma, the main character, really matures throughout the book and makes you realize just how important it is to be accepted. This book really related to me and I'd be glad to read it again. It's a real page-turner! However, it's not very creative. "Be Careful What You Wish For." Heard that before? That's what Wilma learns too...sounds like Goosebumps, doesn't it? Again, even though it isn't creative, it's a fun, touching book and should capture your attention right away!
Rating: Summary: Many different feelings Review: I am ten-years-old and I loved reading "The Wish!" I have not read Ella Enchanted, but I know that it has GREAT reviews. This book gave me a real idea and meaning about how friendship works, especially when her friends were deciding if they should be her friend. "The Wish" showed some real meaning about friendship, and why they should be some one's friend or not. I do recommend this book to any one thatlikes a lot of things going on. This book is exciting, sad, romantic, and many other feelings. This book I recommend this book to many girls who like this author. My favorite character in this book was Ardis. She was caring and popular only for a good reason. She was popular because she is nice to every one. She is VERY tall! I enjoyed reading about her and every one else. Even though Ardis wasn't the main character, she was my favorite. I think that if you read this, you will like her to!
Rating: Summary: A page turner Review: This is a great book. I don't know why it didn't win a newbery award. A must have if you like Gail Levine books. Usually I don't like fairy tale books but this one I could not put down!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book Review: This book was really great. I have always loved Gail Carson Levine's books. "Ella Enchanted" is the best book I have ever read, followed closely by "The Wish." The likeness between the two books is almost obvious. This book really tells how wishes can be wonderful and terrible at the same time. I don't really like modern fairy tales, but I read this book nonetheless, and I'm really glad that I did.
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: I thought this book was great probably only because Ilikeromance stories and this had a little romance in it, But I still liked the plot very much! I reccomend it.
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: I have to admire Gail Carson Levine after reading this book. She took a popular (and subsequently cliche) topic for juvenile fiction (poularity in grade school) and wrote a book so funny, interesting, and original that I personally couldn't put the book down. Can people be accepted for who they are? We all play to the crowd in one way or another, so what would everyone think if they knew the people behind the facades? Secure under the Wish's magic, Wilma can be herself, no matter how unconventional (or just plain weird) that is, and can learn from inside the popular clique just what makes a person so admired and sought after. Wilma has the power and the spirit not to conform to the standards of the popular kids (by falling in love with a kind but kooky poet with a uni-brow, for example), even when her dream world collapses around her.
Rating: Summary: Funny, charming and insightful Review: This is a warm, delightful book with a great message, most gracefully delivered. For all Wilma's yearning for popularity, she has the sensitivity, good humor, and good sense to realize that a boyfriend who likes and appreciates you for who you are is a treasure. I enjoyed this book completely.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This was a great book! Wilma is a girl that many can relate to. She is the non popular junior high girl that has always wantede eatleast one day to shine and be popular...just like Ardis. I thought this book was greatand really interesting too. I would recomend this book to anyone loking for a good book.
Rating: Summary: Not What I Expected Review: I loved _Ella Enchanted_ and expected _The Wish_ to be as amazing and entertaining. However, I felt as if I was plodding through the reading at times, just trying to get through the text. Though the wish to be popular is something kids can relate to, I think that the book seemed a little preachy and the big fat moral lesson hung a bit too heavy, impeding the pleasure factor.
