Gail Carson Levine once again strikes gold with this teenage romance.
Rating: Summary: Wilma's Wish Review: This is not a bad book, but not the best either.Wilma is a girl who is teased at school, then meets some kind of magical old weird woman on a train, who promises to make her into a "cool cat".Guess what? The wish comes true.Wilma is suddenly the most popular girl at school.
Rating: Summary: The Wish: An Enchanting Tale Review: The Wish by Gail Carson Levine is an enchanting tale of a young pre-teen who yearns to have friends. Wilma has been totally ignored in her junior high school for a while. The only true friend Wilma has is her dog, Reggie. She is a charming and pretty young girl whose selfless nature earns her one wish. The wish she chooses is to be the most popular person at Claverford school. The book is about Wilma's experiences with her new found popularity. She has to make many crucial decisions and learn who she really is, and what she stands for. She also learns about the value of honesty, friendship, and true love. This book is a wonderful tale for junior high students (especially girls). There are characters and events that every student will be able to relate to. We highly recommend the book to teachers and to counselors. Although The Wish is fictional, it is highly entertaining and there are very valid issues that can be discussed within a junior high classroom.
Rating: Summary: The greatest book I ever read you REALLY get into it! Review: I hadn't heard about this book until I came to Amazon.com. It was here that I bought the book. I took it to Italy when we went and I couldn't put it down! I started to read it in Venace amd finished it the next day. Every chance I got I picked it up, even if it was only for five minutes. When we got back to the U.S. i read it again. And now I take it almost EVERYWHERE! It is SO good.I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a funny, witty, and altogether uplifting book.
Rating: Summary: I wish I could have givin it no stars Review: Terrible book, I loved Ella Enchanted, and the princess Tales, but this book was terrible!!!
Rating: Summary: No wonder she's unpopular...her name is Wilma! Review: Honestly, we have seen this plot far, far too often in literature. Wilma, an annoying young girl, is in the cool crowd once her wish from a fairy is granted...however, Wilma's acceptance has to end within three weeks...I was snoring by the second chapter. If you are a Levine fanatic, read it if you must (but don't buy it). If you aren't...then don't even waste time thinking about it. I loved her 'Ella Enchanted' and 'Dave at Night', but this book smacks of uninspired, hurried writing.
Rating: Summary: Levine Has Done Better.... Review: I was thrilled to read another book by the same author as Ella Enchanted, but this time, I wasn't as impressed. To make this review short and to the point let me just say the following things: 1. The plot was cleched. Somebody has a wreck of a life, they meet a fairy, make a silly plea, and that changes their life around. blah, blah, blah. 2. Levine didn't achieve what I think she was going for (not that I'm a mind-reader or anything). To me the book was supposed to relate more to real life than her previous books, just with a magical twist. I think that it was a good plan, but it didn't quite suit the story. 3. I did enjoy reading this book. I mean, it is a lot better than some I have read. Sadly, though, this is not up to par with Levine's other books. Thanks for reading! Seriously, though, you should definetly read Ella Enchanted. It is one of the best books I have ever read, and that is saying something! :)
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK!! Review: Although this book doesnt live up to Levine's Ella Enchanted. It still is a VERY well written book. I found it short, but very enjoyable. Wilma is an 8th grader, who is one of the least popular girls. She helps a woman on a bus and she grants her a wish. She wishes to be popular in her middle school. Although, after months of fame, the school year is over, therefore, her wish will disappear b/c she only wished to be popular in her middle school. Find out what happens next.. This book is a mixture of reality AND Gail's "magic." I like how she creates a story that happens to many girls, and how some girls can really relate too. I think you should read this book, and i KNOW you'll be coming back writting a review about it when your done! ( Oh,..I made ALL my friends read it, there reviews are probably here somewhere!)
Rating: Summary: The Wish Review: The Wish is about a 13-year-old girl named Wilma Sturtz. Wilma starts 8th grade at Claverford School when her two, best and only friends move away. Now Wilma is feeling left out and ignored. It has always been Wilma's dream to be in the "popular group" which includes Adris, Beebee, Suzanne, and Nina. When Wilma was riding the subway to school one day, she gave her seat to an old lady. This old lady happens to be a fairy and gives her a wish in return! Wilma wishes to be the most popular girl at Claverford, but doesn't think that the old lady can do that. The next day everyone pays attention to Wilma, and she talks with the popular kids. Wilma begins to wonder if she made the wrong choice with her wish? The old lady had warned her that there might be a mistake (such as a loophole) in her wish and Wilma begins to see just what a loophole is! My favorite character is in the popular group and her name is Adris. Adris is the most popular one, but is very nice to the unpopular kids. She understands what it is like to be made fun of because at her old school she was ignored and left out just like Wilma. I felt the same way on my first day at my new school. I felt very uncomfortable like Adris and Wilma did but then I felt more relaxed after the first week. My favorite part in this book is when Wilma suddenly becomes popular and receives notes in her locker and desk from everyone. She is feeling very happy and even becomes Jared's girlfriend! My least favorite part in the book is before Wilma was popular and all of the people made fun of her because of a poem she wrote about a dog. She told it from the dog's point of view and the teacher read it out loud in class, which she didn't expect! She is so embarrassed! From then on everyone called her a dog and would woof at her in the hall! I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fairytales, fantasy and believes in magic!
