Rating: Summary: What a Wish Review: I eagerly read this book after finishing Ella Enchanted, and I was impressed by Gail Carson Levine after Ella. However, this book wasn't what I expected. I have read and heard of way too many books with the whole "unpopular girl wanting to be popular" theme and I find it untrue and steriotypical. The main character, Wilma, was fairly believable as a person and I was pleased that the most popular girl at Wilma's school was actually nice, which provided good traits for the story, but I just found the book unsatissfying. If you are truly curious to see exactly what happens in it, borrow it from a library. It's a funny read, and it has its moments. This is what it's about: a congenial girl in middle school receives one wish from a mysteious old lady by helping the lady out and wishes to be the most popular girl in school. She is granted her wish, only to find out that it will end when she graduates from eighth grade in a few weeks. She gains a couple true friends and learns those general valuable lessons about popularity. The only interesting twist on the end was that Wilma's life doesn't end up picture perfect. Otherwise, doesn't the plot sound a little familiar?
Rating: Summary: Another great book by Gail Carson Levine. "The Wish" Review: I was a little scared to read this book, but the moment I started reading it I couldn't put it down!!! And I really mean it. I started reading it at 12:00AM and I would have kept going till I was finished, but my dad noticed my bedroom light was on and told me to go to sleep cause it was really late. Anyways this story is very cute, Gail has a way of creating likable and very relateable characters in her books. In her fairy tales like Ella Enchanted and the series of Princess stories. This is Gails first Original story since Dave at Night another great book, based on a true story. This is a Tale about a girl named Wilma who meets an old lady on the Subway in NYC and decides she looks so feeble she might topple over and get hurt so she gives up her seat for the women. And the woman grants her a wish of course like Wilma believed it. At first it didn't take affect, but once Wilma entered school she was the most popular girl there. In this book it simulates what being a teen is really like. Not feeling comfortable in your own skin, being insecure, wanting to be in the in crowd, and shunning those who are'nt. Wilma lost all her friends and she was lonely everyone ignored her and soon after something in school they not only ignored her but she was constently ridiculed by her fellow peers. This is a story anybody can relate to. Except someone who hasn't reached middle school yet. Although at sometimes it get's a little cheezy that doesn't spoil the solid story. I dunno what other people are saying about this book because I haven't read the other reviews yet, but if there are bad ones which I'm sure their are since not everybody likes everything. Don't listen to them give this book a chance go to the library and check it out today!!! And *enjoy*!!!God Bless ~Amy
Rating: Summary: Wanting More Review: The Wish By: Gail Carson Levine Reviewed by: M. Law Period: 1 Wilma Sturtz used to have no friends. But when an old lady offers her a wish, she wishes to be the most popular girl at Claverford. Suddenly she is surrounded with popular people that she had once dreamed of associating with. She now has forty dates to Grad night, and a secret admirer that is writing her love poetry. Wilma really ended up getting exactly what she wished for. But then Wilma discovers that she may only have sixteen more days of school, and only sixteen more days of popularity. I really enjoyed this book because it really relates to real life. There really are a lot of kids out there that are like Wilma before she gets her wish and lots of kids that are like Wilma after she gets her wish. Before the wish, Wilma Sturtz was very unpopular. She was often ignored or treated unrespected. But after the wish, she was popular even if she couldn't use chopsticks or rollerblade. She was popular no matter what. I really disliked the part in the story when Wilma and her boyfriend would kiss and sort of make out because she was after all only thirteen. It isn't really common when an 8th grader has had her or his first kiss. I think Wilma and Jared kissed way too much. The two funniest parts in the story was when Wilma brings her dog to the sleepover and the dog pees, and when her teacher reads her about being a dog. I started laughing out loud it was so funny. These were my favorite parts because I like books that make me laugh. This book did exactly that. This has been the best book I have ever read. It is my favorite book.

(BEWARE: toodescriptive for immature or young eyes.) I would als o only recommendit too girls since the main character(Wilma) is a girl. Summary:Wilma, one of the most unpopular girls in the school, gives up herseat for an old lady, who in turn grants Wilma one wish. Wilma ofcourse chooses to be popular in her middle school. The old lady grantsit and Wilma soon realizes when she arrives at school that she is themost popular kid in her middle school. She soon makes"friends" with the most popular, and gets asked to a danceby at least 50 boys. She then realizes that her spell will end whenshe graduates from middle school, and she wonders, who will be herfriends when it is all over? She also realizes that popularity is notwhat it seems. Rating: Summary: Be careful what you wish for... Review: Wilma's two best friends move away and she spends three miserable years in middle school unable to make new friends. The poplular kids ignore her and she avoids the other unpopular ones. When a language arts teacher reads her "Secret Life" essay aloud (she speaks as her dog)things only get worse. Upon giving her seat to an old woman on the N.Y. subway, the woman allows Wilma to make a wish. Wilma's wish is to be the most popular girl in school. Unfortunetly, graduation is three weeks away and school will be over. Will her new friends still like her? Will Jared, her new beau still want to be her boyfriend? This book is ideal for the pre-teen girl looking for a story about friendship or one just becoming interested in boys. We learn what it is like to be popular and unpopular. It has a fairy tale essence although Wilma never actually changes. The wish only affects how others perceive her. Fans of Ella Enchanted and the Princess Tales will enjoy this too.
Rating: Summary: The Wish Review: The Wish comes true! Imagine a book about a teenage girl who is unpopular at her middle school and only has a few friends. Her only dream is to be popular at school. One day she is on the subway on the way to school, and she sees an old lady on the subway trying to find seat, but they are all taken. Wilma decides to give her seat up to the old lady. The lady is so appreciative that she offers to grant Wilma a wish. Wilma thinks this old lady is out of her mind, so she says no thank you. The lady insists, so Wilma makes her wish to be popular. When I read this book, I felt like I was there, right smack- dab in the middle of all of the chaos that was going on in Wilma's, the main character's, life. I liked the way Levine described each of the characters and the way Wilma thought about each one of them. Wilma was an unpopular teenage girl who wished to be popular more than anything. I liked the theme that Levine chose for this book because it was realistic and that is one of the only things that goes on in this book. Who can believe that one day a girl is not popular and then she meets and old lady on the subway who grants her wish to be popular and "poof!" All of a sudden the next day she is popular. It is a little bit too unimaginable. If an author is going to write a fantasy book, I think all of the characteristics of the book should be fantasy; it is way too hard to imagine the things that happen in a fantasy book actually happening in real life.

Rating: Summary: The Wish Book Review Review: Life for Wilma wasn't all that great since her friends moved away. It didn't get any better after her teacher read her essay aloud in class making her social standing even lower than it already was. But little did she know that when she gave an old lady her seat on the bus, her wish for popularity would come true. She would make some friends and even meet a boy. It was all too good to be true. Could she keep her popularity? Did it all end at the end of the school year? Would she remember it all if everything went back to normal?
Rating: Summary: Just Good Review: This book was just okay compared to Gail Carson Levaine's previous works. Set in modern times its about a girl named Wilma who is very unpopular. Wilma wishs she could be the most popular girl in her current school. Classic story, being popular wasn't that great yada yada yada you know the rest. What's different about this story is she only wishs she could be popular in her current school. When she graduates she's not popular anymore. In the end you never know if she keeps her popular friends, but she does keep her one eyebrowed new boyfriend. Read it but don't blame me when you're left hanging in the end.
Rating: Summary: the wish Review: I loved "The Wish" and thats why i would rate it a five. I think Gail Carson Levine is a great author and can't wait to read more of her books! Im going to Borders today to buy one of her books! :-)
