Rating: Summary: Great introduction to "scary" figures Review: I read this book to my daughter last October when she was just a little over two. She's just turned three and we're using it as our pre-Halloween reading again. What I like best about the book is that the characters, a witch, ghost, vampire, mummy and bat, aren't at all scary. They all have the same sole interest, eating pumpkin pie. There's no witchcraft, no haunting, no nasty mischief. They're basically silly characters, offering parents a good way to introduce young children to them in a way that might later neutralize potentially scarier meetings. This book will not give my three year old nightmares - she may, however dream of pumpkin pie.
Rating: Summary: Great for everyone! Review: I teach pre-school children and they simply love this book and cassette. They read along out loud with the cassette and they even change the sounds of their voices to sound like the voices of each character. I myself am in search of the book and cassette for a new bunch of children...
Rating: Summary: superb illustrations... fun story Review: In Erica Silverman's _Big Pumpkin_, a witch tries to get her big pumpkin off the vine, so she can make pumpkin pie. A mummy, a vampire, a ghost and a bat each stop by and try to pull the pumpkin from the vine. They succeed when they all pull together. Later they share the pumpkin pie.Schindler's illustrations are hilarious. The image of the mummy trying to pull the pumpkin from the vine is one i will never forget... the image of the bat eating pumpkin pie is another one. Both I and my (3 year old) son find this book very funny. The story is simple and repetitive...there is nothing really scary or morbid here at all. In my opinion, this is an ideal Halloween picture book for 3- and 4-year olds.
Rating: Summary: Great content, poor quality Review: My 5 y.o. son listened to it on tape a few times and then read it to us over and over and over again. A cute story - perfect for young readers.

Rating: Summary: A daycare pleaser Review: My kids love this story. I do different voices for the characters. They especially like the vampire. The story introduces these Halloween characters cooperating and eating pie. Not scary at all
Rating: Summary: Great content, poor quality Review: My son adores this book. He asks for it all the time, and loves to talk about the pumpkin rolling down the hill, thump-bump, thump-bump... As much as I love to read this book to him, I have finally thrown it away and will be buying it in library form because the pages fell out of the book after probably three reads and I can no longer keep them in order. I don't believe I have any other books by this publisher, and will try to keep it that way.
Rating: Summary: Teacher's Favorite Review: Of all the Halloween books I have in my Halloween box at school, this is the one my students love the best. Since I began using it 4 years ago, my classes(K-2)have usually had it memorized and could say the verses outloud with me as I read. The pictures are incredible. The story is darling. If you happen to come across the book on tape, grab it up quick. The producers put the words to delightful music, and voices that make the book come to life.

Rating: Summary: This is my families favorite Halloween book. Review: The "Big Pumpkin" is one of my three daughters' and my favorite books. We don't wait for Halloween to read it, we read it at least once a month just for the fun of it. In the beginning, I would make all of the different characters' voices. Dracula and the Witch were the girls favorites. Now, we all take turns creating the voice of each of the characters. Even my oldest, who is now twelve, still loves to hear and read aloud this wonderful book. This book should be on every parents "must read" book list and it should always be read out loud. The "Big Pumpkin" is big fun.
