Rating: Summary: THE DEEP END OF BOREDOM!! Review: I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THAT OTHERS AGREED WITH MY LOW RATING- THAT IT WASN'T JUST ME WHO 'DIDN'T GET IT'. I DON'T HAVE ANY CHILDREN-MAYBE THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT?? THE BEGINNING WAS OKAY, THE MIDDLE WAS MUDDLE-BORING, BUT THE END PICKED UP A BIT, BUT STILL OVERALL A SNORE-FEST! I HATED THE WAY THE BOOK FOCUSED ON THE MOTHER-TOO FOCUSED ON TOO FEW OF THE CHARACTERS. ALSO, EVEN THOUGH I CAN APPRECIATE THAT SHE WAS DEVASTATED AND DEPRESSED-WHAT THE HELL DID HALF THE STUFF SHE SAID/THOUGHT MEANT? I AM NOT STUPID, I HAVE ADVANCED DEGREES, BUT HER THOUGHTS WERE TOO ABSTRACT AND TOO LOOSE AND LACKED REAL MEANING TO ME. AND, FOR SOME STRANGE REASON, IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE AUTHOR WAS HINTING THAT SHE WOULD HAVE MORE THAN A FRIENDSHIP WITH THE WOMAN POLICE OFFICER-NOT THAT THE BOOK WOULD BE ANY BETTER. ANYWAY, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SOME BELVA PLAIN, OR MAUVE BINCHY, OR EVEN "VERONICA" BY NICHOLAS CHRISTOPHER-WHICH W0ULD PROVE YOU CAN HAVE EXCITING, ABSTRACT THOUGHT PATTERNS WITHOUT THE BOREDOM, LOOSENESS AND MUDDLE!! SORRY TO THE FOLKS WHO LIKED THIS......
Rating: Summary: This was a depressing journey with no way out. Review: I couldn't wait to finish this book. It drug me deep into a depression hole with no light. The mother had few redeeming qualities and didn't do anything for her other children. If she loved her lost son so much, why didn't she support her remaining children. I thought the plot was too simplistic...how many missing children are kidnapped by an old schoolmate? Most are killed or never found. I would have liked to see a triumph for the mother over this horrible experience but she disappointed me. Why read a book that's filled with no hope?
Rating: Summary: Slow starter, but once you get into it, it is riveting. Review: It took a couple of tries to get into this book, but once I did I found the story to be very heartwrenching. The horror this family went through was something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I, too, doubted Oprah the first time I tried to read the book, but then I tried again and I'm so glad I did. The story was a real tearjerker. I could totally feel the emotions that one must feel when a child is missing. It made me hold my own children a little closer and tighter.
Rating: Summary: A gripping heart wrenching family saga Review: The deep end of the ocean is the kind of book that you can't put down. It follows the life of a family dealing with the loss of a kidnapped child for nine years, and the trials and tribulations of the family when the child returns, as a twelve year old who doesn't remember them or the trauma of being kidnapped at age 3. This book is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: Could not get into it at all. Ditto for two others in the office. Hope the movie is better!
Rating: Summary: Unreadable Review: WHAT a disappointment - here I thought that if Oprah recommended Toni Morrison she knew something about good writing. Sorry - NOT SO. I bought this awful book from amazon.com and was absolutely unable to finish it - I tried, honest!
Rating: Summary: PERFECT!! Review: I read this book in a day an a half. It was wonderful. I look forward to the movie!
Rating: Summary: A very depressing book to read Review: This book could leave anyone with feelings of total inadequacy and lack of control over anything in their life. So disappointing.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED IT! Review: TEARS TEARS TEAR
Rating: Summary: I NEVER PUT THE BOOK DOWN! Review: THE AUTHOR BROUGHT ALL MY EMOTIONS TO LIFE. I CRIED ALOT BECAUSE I LOST MY ELDEST DAUGHTER WITHOUT WARNING IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND FELT THE PAIN SHE WAS GOING THROUGH. I KNOW THIS IS FICTION, BUT ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AT ANY GIVEN TIME. "DEEP END OF THE OCEAN" WAS TASTEFULLY DONE AND NOW I LOOK FORWARD TO THE MOVIE COMING SOON. THANK YOU OPRAH! HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR YOU PUTTING IT ON YOUR BOOK CLUB LIST, I MAY NEVER HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO READ IT.
