Summary: Riveting
Review: I enjoyed the book very much! At times it was very hard to put down. Jaquelyn Mitchard did an excellant job of taking me in to the life of the Cappadora's. Before reading this book I could not imagine what it would be like to lose a child. Although Beth was not the perfect mother, (and really, is there such a thing) Ms Mitchard showed us how unconditional love wins out. It was only in letting Ben go, that she was able to keep him. I would have liked a more precise ending, but ultimately it left my imagination to wonder and grow. I would highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to seeing the movie and am on my way to buy The Most Wanted, also by Ms. Mitchard

Summary: So-so
Review: I think that there were good and bad points about The Deep End of The Ocean. Some of the characters were outstanding, others were cardboard cut-outs. Some parts of the plot were inventive, some were predictable. Some of the writing was very good, and some was not so good. I would have enjoyed this book much more if I had been let more into the mind of Ben/Sam and less into Vincent/Reese, and more into what actually happens to the family. Vincent/Reese seemed like a way to kill time until another plot development could be made. I would reccommend The Deep End of the Ocean to anybody looking for a quick, but not entirely profound read.

Summary: Started off good, and then.....
Review: I have a 13 month old son, and as I was reading I kept picturing him missing. I couldn't put the book down. And then....Ben just walking to the door and wanting to mow the lawn seemed so contrived. I think Vincent pointed it out very well to his psychiatrist - the kid was a mile from the police station for almost ten years and no one could find him?? I also thought that Cecil's motivation for taking him needed to be more fleshed-out. "Mentally ill" is pretty lame. I would have liked more information about what led her to take that particular child - what circumstances did she raise him under - and why did she keep leaving those shoes around?

Like many of the other readers, I did not care for Beth. It would be nice if this was just a story about a superwoman who went all out for her family (like a Lifetime movie, or something). I think that would have been very cliched. Everyone reacts differently to tragedy - this is a story of how these people reacted. Not everyone is a hero.

I would recommend the book, but not glowingly.

Summary: A good read with range of emotions.
Review: I thought it was a great story, with interesting characters that get better as the story progresses. There were times I could not put it down.

Summary: Not bad, but not great.
Review: I just finished reading this book today, and found that I liked the book as much as I didn't like it. I wish that we could have gone into Ben/Sam's head after he had been found to explore what was going on with him in more depth. I was also dissapointed in the fact that Cecilia had mental problems, so we never really got to find out her side of that story either.

At the same time, however, the book really did keep my interest, and I didn't think it was hard to read at all, as some previous readers have said. I guess I just wanted to find out what other bad things could actually happen to this poor family.

I would have liked to have known for sure if Beth stayed with Pat after Sam came back, rather than drawing my own conclusions. I just like for all the loose ends to be tied up, I suppose, and this book didn't do that for me.

Summary: This book puts you through the emotional ringer!
Review: As a mother of two small boys I am surprised that I made it through the first few chapters. But, the author caught me and made it hard to put the book down. This is not a happy, feel-good book, nor does it have a hollywood ending, but it does explore the emotional horrors of a family living through (but maybe not surviving) the unthinkable. Overall, I would recommend it.

Summary: It was really GREAT!
Review: I read this book in the last summer in a few days, when my baby boy was seven months old. I think, in the heart of each woman as a mother exists this kind of preoccupation like a nightmare. In "The Deep End of the Ocean" Mrs. Jacquelyn Mitchard has created an atmosphere where you do share with her all her preoccupations, anxious and tears in.If you have a baby like me, by reading some parts of this novel, you can't stop your tears with her. Jacquelyn Mitchard is such a brilliant author.

Summary: Everyone is being too harsh / March 30, 1999
Review: This book is not meant for everone / just the compationate ones. I enjoyed this book. I am very hard to please when reading a book. I never once laid this one down. I rate this my THIRD best book so far. I would pick up another one of her books anytime.

Signed: A very hard to please reader! >=)

Summary: Rather disappointing.
Review: Although it was an easy read on a very interesting topic, I found myself disappointed with many things throughout the book. From nickname name changes to the ending (I thought unrealistic). A pretty average, readable book.
