Summary: It's your right to freedom of explosive opinion
Review: It is understandable why he does not condone colonialism, lest he would be attacking his own aristocratic family privilege grounded in British colonial administration in India. Did the English introduced procedural novelties -- innocent until proven guilty? How about the procedural traditional dispute settlement, trial, or tribal meetings in [African] traditional systems? Clearly, by "the West" he means Caucasian European American not Latinos or African Americans whom he calls the "underclass". From time to time, the writer goes back to make a distinction between African American, Latino and "Americans", sometimes blurredly entwining them with "third wolders".

D'Souza calls the "Jesse Jackson [political agitation] strategy" vs. the "immigrant assimilation [to the culture]" a fallacy.
D'Souza says merit not racism if responsible for performance differences on standardized tests. Let's test merit over race in the U.S. by placing both Colin Powel and George W. Bush on same stand for the Republican Party Presidential nomination!

Never mind that the author's only interpretive evidence of standard test performance is from culturally imperialist research conducted by three Caucasian male -- Laurence Steinberg, Sanford Dornbusch & Bradford Brown] -- on Asians, African American and Latinos [herein referred to as Hispanic].
For the record, while he praises the Asians intellectual capacity, nowhere in his book does the writer cite any Asians scholars; ironically he cites Afro writers like Ali Mazrui but majority Caucasians Europeans.

He underplays the impact of financially well-off family, financially well-off schools, socially unstable families, damaging societal images, absence of a role model or geographical situation or any particular grouping of people. Society usually society creates a victim and blames the victim.

D'Souza says the vacuum cleaner, forklift and pill set women free from domesticity. This male supposedly raised by a woman once again does not account for women's domestic work as a full-time career.

In the end, this writer displays a high level of "poetic justice" to those who colonized his third world country India and taught him English-- it's pay back time!

Summary: A Well Writen Book about Us.
Review: This book flows. It is a well written book about Americans, written by one who has become one of us. I enjoyed most when he described how his life would have been if he remained in India. His arguments about racism are clear and concise. He does pat himself on the back a little when in the beginning he describes debating Jesse Jackson (even as I enjoyed the result). This is a brilliant man, who is destined to become a major American thinker.

Summary: Objective, Educational, Philosophical and Inspiring
Review: This book is easy reading for anyone who feels consistently deprived by the media of the depth of thought, analysis and honest portrayal of world events which this book offers. D'Souza makes the complex understandable. I learned a lot from this book. Critics attempt to discredit the author, but they offer no convincing arguments to his facts, logic, honest empathetic analysis and conclusions.

Summary: Should be required reading in all social studies classes
Review: Great book and a quick read, too quick in some areas, leaving me wanting to know more. The book is intelligently written and lays out the cold facts regarding many areas of social interest affecting us today, ranging from radical muslim fundamentists, to reparations, to why Americans are unpopulat in many French eyes. He paints with a wide brush on many issues but he still lays out the facts in a witty and non-chalante way. The book is educational in the sense that it provides some credence and factual information to many popular arguments today, albeit mostly on one side. I believe he does make an honest attempt to portray the "other sides" of the issues he is writing about but it is evident where he stands on these issues. I also believe though that if the "proof" he lays out in the book on varying subjects pointed another way, he would have no issue in portraying it with honesty and integrity. The best thing about the book is that Mr. D'Souza is an educated immigrant who has first hand knowledge of most of the issues he writes about. From his upbringing and background, he almost should have turned out to have quite the opposite points of view on many of these issues. Can't wait to read his other books.

Summary: Absolutely Fantastic
Review: This book is fantastic. Mr. D'Souza is a terrific writer. He is so intelligent about what he writes about. I highly recommend this to anyone out there who has decided not to take responsiblity for their life, and blame their living conditions on everyone else, and so they rely on the government for handouts. Because after you read this, you'll want to better yourself and get a job.

Summary: A must for a native born American
Review: Having originally grown up in Bombay myself and a migrant to America, I can fully appreciate the argument he makes. I think that this is essential reading for native Americans to fully appreciate the privledge of being born here. He convincingly refutes the victim mentality of people or cultures who blame America as a cover-up for their own failures. I happened to glance at the book at [the store] and could not put it down till I was done 2 1/2 hours later.

Summary: America the Beautiful!
Review: Dr. D'Souza has done it again! Very insightful and balanced assessment of Western civilization and the American culture in particular. Logical and passionate at times arguments in defense of the Western culture. I am a naturalized citizen, and like Dr. D'Souza do not take this country's freedoms for granted. I have been struggling with the liberal propaganda that saturated the American mainstream media. The Left has been immersed in maniacal pursuit of self-criticism (or rather, the criticism of everything Western, white and male). With an ecstasy of a masochist, they engage in daily bashing of Christianity and American traditional values. Page after page, Dr. D'Souza unfolds the conservative responses to the Leftist chauvinists. A MUST READ FOR EVERY AMERICAN BORN OR NATURALIZED! I have one question for the Left - Would you trade your American conveniences (like indoor plumbing, 24/7 supermarkets, interstate highways, and yes, your freedom to be naïve and stupid) for a sand-filled and to some extend hopeless existence somewhere in Gobi desert? If you do, then there is another great American freedom - freedom to leave! You'll be happier with your camels, and we won't miss you.

Summary: Great Book Great Arguement (got long at the end)
Review: Dinesh D'Souza's WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT AMERICA is a book whose entire tone confirmed that he was not born here. Page after page we see him using insights that the native born miss, arguements that the native born are afraid of using because of the fear of being politically incorrect, and honest evaluations of our foes, our friends and our cultural rivals.

The arguements are pretty solid and don't needs a ton of extra debate, I did notice however two things about the book that kept it from 5 starts for me:

#1 I read his column from eariler this year about the 10 great things about the USA. It was apparently the condensed version of this book. It seems that he took a lot of pages to say in book fom what that column said in just a few. I understand that explaining Islam's view of the world takes some space but it seemed to not add enough for me.

#2. I read the majority of the book right away but found myself stalling on the last 20 pages. I'm not sure if it was because of the column I already mentioned but the book seemed to get dryer and slower as I got to the end. The arguements were still there and valid but they didn't pull me forward toward the end.

Still this book should be required reading for native born americans who just don't get how amazing this country is. Just before coming into work today I stopped at a supermarket and for under 10 bucks picked up a cooked chicken, a loaf of sourdough bread and a two ltr bottle of soda. To you and me that's "so what?" but to the man in say Angola the concept of a full meal or two (with MEAT) for the price of 1 1/2 hours of min wage labor, that's amazing, that's America.

D'Souza sees how awesome that is , after reading this book you will too!

Summary: Great Review of America's Greatness!
Review: DSouza very compellingly argues the reasons for why this is the country countless immigrants and people all over the world aspire to live in. Only an immigrant like DSouza can tell the story like he does - on Americans' higher standards, the pitiful protests of a certain group etc.

Highly recommended!

Summary: This is the TRUE DEFENSE of America!
Review: Dinesh has properly and methodically analyzed the accusations by liberal "traitors" to the principles and benefits of the American society, and refuted every claim against it. By the time you finish reading this, not only will you have a better sense of pride in America, you will know exactly why claims of reparations & cultural bias are aimed at merely a "deep pocket" instead of those that should be called out.
Slavery? It was the United States that was the first to abolish slavery! (Yes, even the African states enslaved the lower tribes!) Racism? Those that accuse others of it are the biggest bigots around! Racial Equiality? OK, lets put quotas on EVERYTHING! This would include the NBA, the NFL, and Major League Baseball! (Based on the racial quota argument, 75% of all players on these teams would be required to be white!)
Great book for those seeking the answers to those rhetorical questions that the greedy liberals throw at the moral half of us!
