Summary: Codswallop? Get an education!!
Review: First of all, to the buyer, while I am giving this book 5 stars for content, know that this book is much shorter than a book of this price normally is. It is about two-thirds the length it should be.

However, this is well reasoned and accurate. It is NOT true that conservatives give this book 5 stars, while liberals one star. I gave Pat Buchanan's Death of the West ONE star, because it is a racist book, but this book deserves 5 stars. No one other than the codswallop mongers could give this book less than 5 stars.

D'Souza pretty much says what is true - that Jesse jackson should shut up and get to work. Black people from the West Indies are proud to work hard in America. He also exposes liberals for being ignorant. What makes America great is that liberals like the Codswallop ignoramus below are even allowed to exist! In Iran or China, they would be executed.

Summary: A real page turner!
Review: What's So Great About America? Well, not much, if you've been listening to all of the nay-saying liberals lately. Or, surprisingly, some conservatives. Whether it's Pat Buchanan's "Death of the West" or University of Massachusetts professor Jennie "Trash Can" Traschen's view that America got what it deserved because it's "a symbol of terrorism and death and fear and destruction and oppression."; apparently, we're in big trouble! But Indian immigrant Dinesh D'Souza begs to differ in his new book, What's So Great About America.

In the book jacket, the story is prefaced with: "Islamic intellectuals declare America the 'Great Satan.' Europeans rail against American 'globalism' as embodied by McDonalds." More arguments against America follow, and then: "best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza takes on all of America's critics and proves them wrong - as perhaps only a writer with an immigrant's understanding of this country can."

Addressing issues such as slavery, colonialism, and American decadence, D'Souza does all of that and more. The first chapter, entitled "Why they Hate Us" gives the reader a background on, well, why exactly "they" hate us. "They" isn't limited to Muslim fanatics; of course, Europeans and multiculturalists are included as well.

The following five chapters each touch on different subjects, and everything is backed up by facts sited at the end of the book. Tearing through America's critics like Ted Kennedy in a buffet line; D'Souza's views as an immigrant are very telling; that, hey, maybe America isn't so bad, after all?

If you're tired about hearing how terrible America is, and you'd like some good arguments to back yourself up, then definitely pick up a copy of the book. Even if you'd just like an interesting read from a perspective you haven't heard from before, I'd also recommend it highly. It's a real page-turner, although it gets a little tedious near the end, when you turn the pages just to get to the point. That, however, is my only complaint about a great, great book.

Summary: The Great Land of Hypocrisy
Review: The reason I gave this book 1 star, is because I completely disagree with the author's story, I have quite an opposite view. As an American who has lived overseas most of his life, I get to see America from "the other side", and believe me folks there's a lot of ugly stuff Americans are doing in the world. Granted, it's not all bad, Americans did a lot of good - but most of the time, when they're doing good, there is a lot of self-interest which isn't publicized. America, for those who don't realize it, is the greatest land of hypocrisy that I know of. They say you're free, when I feel so much more freedom when I'm living in other countries.. how can you explain that? I'd like to comment on the person who was talking about the immigrants going to America, and America being prosperous.. A prosperous nation, doesn't mean a "great nation". How did America become prosperous? It exploits other countries, and the only reason I'm saying it is because I see it, by living overseas I slowly see the effects of "Americanization" (hypocritically called "Globalization" by Americans) of the world, and while there are a few good things - such as certain poor countries adopting democracy, and then prospering - most of it is bad, the American society is the #1 worst society that I have seen! I mean where else in the world do people sue each other, kill each other, stab each other in the back, divorce, beat each other up, hate each other, etc., as much as the U.S. ? While most of the world's 200+ countries are poor indeed, everytime I go to a "poor, inferior country" I see smiles in people's faces and see how their spirit, their culture, and their way of life still hasn't been completely polluted by the American Imperialist Monster. However, I realize that those innocent, simple people that I saw are merely temporary - they too, will one day be gobbled up by the Imperalist machine that is the U.S.A.

Summary: Best book on the subject
Review: Dinesh D'Souza is un-biased and very good. I am presently living in USA, but I spent my childhood in different Arab countries.Being a Christian and a Non Arab living in an Arab world is very tough. There is no freedom of any kind (human rights, religion, speach etc)in existance.People who think there is so much discrimination in America need to go out to the Arab world and live for a while to see what real discrimination is like. I agree with the sentiments presented in the book. TV today has a lot of people who only know about life in the Arab world from books and therefore create false immpressions in America.Arab/Muslim doctrine has no room for freedom and is very oppressive in nature - no better way to say it. Dinesh D'Souza is the best author on this matter.

Summary: D'Souza is Fearless
Review: Credit Dinesh D'Souza for having the courage to proclaim that America, with all its faults, remains a great country. With impeccable logic and clarity, he grapples with the insanity that is slavery reparations, the instability of moral relativism, and the moral attacks on American culture. He reminds us that of the millions of immigrants who arrive to America every year, proving that something is in fact better in America than from where they came. He writes of the multitude of good that America stands for: despite being a military superpower, America must be on firm moral ground before an attack (How many countries can confess the same?); America has helped bring the fall of utterly repressive regimes in Russia and Afghanistan, and helped save the world during WWI and II. In parts of the book, he gives account of his own experiences as an immigrant from India, and his pride in being an American. "What's So Great About America" is a must read for anyone who doubts that America has done much good for the world.

Summary: You Go Girlfriend!!!
Review: ...I am also an Indian immigrant who thinks this country is great! I lived in Bangalore most of my life. Although most Indians refer to Bangalore now as the "silicon valley of India", it's actually just another over-crowded, poorly run city where all the natural bodies of water have been polluted beyond belief and people still urinate on the sidewalk and drinking a bottle of coke is the most memorable event of the day. So when I came here to do my studies, you can imagine how I felt when I saw how efficiently everything ran and how clean and modern it was!! Wheeeee. Yes Dinesh, we are so much better off living here in the land of the Americans, and we should be proud that we can now call ourselves Americans. Oh yeh, we are Americans now, boyeeee!! You and me Dinesh, we are Americans, and we are contributing mightily to this great country - you with your valuable insights into why this country is great, and me, with my job as an IT consultant here in San Jose, where I got laid off last year and am still hoping that the internet companies get back to the same inflated value as they were before. You and me and William F Buckley and Ronald Reagan, Dinesh - we make this country great!!! And those pathetic goons complaining about profiling by the police and unfair tax policies and environmentally irresponsible corporations and corrupt politicians and blah di blah-di blah - well those complainers should all go back where they came from, yeah boyeee! You keep up the great work on CNN and all the other great cable talk shows - you da man!!!

Summary: he sold his soul to the devil
Review: of course the title overstates my feelings about this book, this book did make me think about how i really feel about america, and while i was reading this book my feelings were anger, enlightenment, confusion, sadness, etc. so, this is a good book to read especially for first generation or 1.5 generation immigrants because it forces you to confront/examine your existence here in good ole' us of a. in final anaylsis, this book is not going to change any minds, that i am sure of. the author is what i call "banana", yellow/dark outside and white inside, this is not meant to be a slander just a description, he extrapolates his own previleged but limited experience to the whole of usa, and this will not go down well in liberal circles. so, if you are of conservative political persuasion, you will like this book, if not, you will not like this book, bottom line.

Summary: It's All In the Eyes of the Beholder
Review: In order to fully grasp the essence of this very insightful tome, perhaps, it is helpful for the reader to note the advice of an ancient philosoper when he said, "One thing I know for sure, I know nothing for sure" because to get the gradual development of the belief systems of the various cultures, an individual must take a neutral position in order to follow the comprehensive approah Mr.D' Souza reveals in the tome and not miss the powerful and insightful message. Most individuals formulate their opinions on an issue from their own experiences or observations, however, to do so with this book would be missing a valuable part of its essence as the author unravels the history of thought which establishes much of the premise that affects the current way America is viewed by various cultures of the world. While America is a great country, the reader will discover, the reason is quite different than the average person might conclude. The title of Mr. D'Souza's book, naturally reveals the idea that by the usual measurement of opportunity and standard of living, the majority of immigrants will readily admit America is a great country in which to live. The author takes the reader on a quick trip back in time in order to decipher the belief system of three cultures who show dislike for America. After expanding the thought process, Mr. D"Souza gives the reader a primary and simple explanation for such an opinion that correlates with the expressions of Rousseau.

The author, while enlightening the reader on the reasons of America's opinion in the world, slowly and carefully guides him to the present. Anyone who reads the book will find it brilliantly composed and readily appreciates Mr. D'Souza's vast knowledge, research, and unique writing style. He makes reading a very enjoyable experience. Once the reader turns the first page of this book and commences through the six sequential chapters he is hooked on the power of its content and will find it most difficult to put down until the final page is reached. It will be a welcome and vauable addition of enhalncement to the informative reader's personal library. It is a masterpiece manifested by a masterful author.

Summary: Codswallop -- wow, I use a word no one else uses.
Review: "This is about the devaluation of foreign currencies, the homogenisation of global culture, the massacre of innocents, and generally making the strong, richer and the poor, weaker." To the reviewer who wrote this: did you get this viewpoint from your college political science class (taught by a disgruntled academic) or did you come up with this completely unoriginal idea on your own? Try not writing reviews that use such time-worn cliches.

By the way -- just because you don't agree with a book's point of view doesn't mean that the book isn't good. Why don't you try writing a real review that is useful?

Summary: Fantastic! Crystallizes the truth in excellent prose
Review: This book, even though it is very short in duration, puts the critics in the garbage can about why America is the best.

He shoots down Jesse Jackson for bilking corporations out of money on false claims of rascism. He chops the liberals who think that we are forcibly enforcing our culture on the rest of the world. The reviewer who wrote 'codswallop' below would fall into the category of an ignorant liberal. The only think D'Souza does not have the courage to do is blast Israel for tricking the US into supporting it and receiving terrorism on its behalf.

Fantastic book by a great American.
