Summary: Outstanding !!!
Review: This translation by Robert Fitzgerald is a much easier translation to read than many others. I couldn't put it down!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent plain language translation
Review: W.H.D. Rouse provides an excellent plain language translation of Homer's classic "The Odyssey". Other translations can make reading this classic a real chore, but Rouse's version was an easy read.

Summary: good
Review: W.H.D. Rouse's prose translation of The Odyssey takes too many liberties, especially for a prose translation. One needs only to look at the beginning of book 1: where is the invocation to the muse? Rouse's idea of the Greek language available to Homer was that it was more varied than it was. Also, in remembering this epic, the storyteller had to use many stock phrases, as it is such a long book. Rouse does not seem to understand this.

Summary: a torture odyssey
Review: We read the Odyssey in our Classics class and we all thought Penelope was a weedy wimp, Telemachus was a try hard, and all the rest of the chicks were pretty groovy, especially Circe becuase she didn't take any joff from male chauvanist pigs. Odysseyus was too hairy for my liking and I thought he was just a gigolo sailer boy.

Summary: The Odyssey was very interesting and was a great book!
Review: When I first started reading The Odyssey in school I thought it would be the boringest book ever, but after I read into the epic poem I found myself not putting the book down!
