Rating: Summary: Just hilarious! Review: I thought this book was even better than the 1st one! I couldn't stop laughing. The 3rd book,Shopaholic ties the knot, is just as funny..if you dont want to wait until 2003 to buy it,go to amazon.co.uk and get it from england! That's how good it is! enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Even Funnier Than The Original Review: I have read a lot of those "post Bridget Jones" books, you know, the feisty single heroine is beaten down, but then triumphs at the end. I felt that the original Shopaholic did stand out because it was almost over the top ridiculously funny. Being American, it's good to know that there are people in other countries who are as obsessed with materialism as we are. This sequel is even funnier. Becky Bloomwood goes to New York and gets caught up in the Manhattan lifestyle. I love the whole thing about her not understanding the exchange rate so thinking that "dollars don't count." What I really loved about this book was the ending, how she really found the right career for herself and was able to exist on her own without anyone bailing her out. None of the characters was as interesting as Becky herself, but as most of the book is about her, that's not a problem. A very entertaining read and I felt like it also had a very empowering message at the end, but wasn't preachy or over the top.
Rating: Summary: The Shopaholic takes a bite out of the Big Apple! Review: Just when you thought that she'd learned her lesson, Becky Bloomwood is introduced to New York City! A shopper's paradise! Becky's boyfriend, Luke, is trying to expand his company to the states and Becky gets to come too! Of course, NYC is too much temptation for a recovering shopaholic. With the swipe of a credit card, Becky is out of control again! However, this time the stakes are higher and the consequences are much graver. Yes, she's irresponsible, a little selfish, and lacks self-control, but I love Becky Bloomwood! Sophie Kinsella has created a one of a kind character. This book was a lot of fun to read. The writing is quick with classic British wit! I can't wait for the 3rd book in this series!
Rating: Summary: How ya feelin? Shop Shop Shop! Review: Shopping takes on a whole new meaning. Sophie Kinsella has done what most of us would deem as impossible. She's taken a would-be shallow greedy girl, and made her into quite a loving and selfless person. Ok, she does tend to leave Prada sales and Barney's with her VISA card peeling plastic, but she deserves a little credit. She is quite selfless and helps her best friend with her aspiring frame-making, deals with jealous brides, an over-eager boyfriend, and lets not forget bills. She's a financial advisor, yet can't advise herself. Her career as a writer leaves her in shambles, so she goes about her credit dilemma the way any girl would, she uses her GOd-given wits. This novel is an extraordinarily well written, funny, and easy to relate to, must for any man, woman or child who loves fashion, passion, or just plain humor.
Rating: Summary: Has she leanred anything? Review: So Becky Bloomwood is back! Thanks in part to Luke, she has a fabulous chance at getting her dream job in NYC. Of course we can all predict what happens. Becky spends too much, Becky lies, friends save the day, and so on. I had a real problem feeling at all sorry for Becky and her mishaps, since she has become quite the financial fool, as well as outright liar. I didn't 'hate' this book, but i expected much more from Kinsella. Sure becky is a likable woman, but I hope the 3rd novel isn't as frustrating or fluffy.
Rating: Summary: soooooooo funny! Review: I picked up this book after seeing it on a list of new books. Honestly I first picked it up because of the cover. But it is hilarious! When I saw that it was a follow-up to "Confessions of a Shopoholic" I bought that book also. I read "Confessions..." first and it was so funny. A book rarely makes me laugh out loud but this one certainly did. I finished it in a day so that I could move on to "Shopoholic in Manhattan." I was worried it wouldn't be as funny but it was even better! I finished it in a day also because I just couldn't put it down. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to read a funny and clever book. It's a good book for a day at the beach. Everyone should go out there and buy it. I hope that the author writes another follow-up!!
Rating: Summary: Getting a bit tired of Becky Bloomwood Review: Although this book is pretty funny, after a while I was getting a bit tired of Becky's completely irresponsible behavior. Yes, we women like to shop, but she goes quite over the top. I enjoyed the first book better when she was just learning her lessons, but by the second book I didn't feel sorry for her at all. Its entertaining, yes, but nothing great. Good for the beach when you really don't have to pay much attention to the detail.
Rating: Summary: A Great, Fun Book! Review: When I read the first book, Confessions of a Shopaholic, I wondered if there was going to be a sequel. When I saw Shopaholic Takes Manhattan on the bookstore shelf, I grabbed it and started reading before I even left the store. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Sophie Kinsella's writing flows off the paper and into the reader's mind, creating amusing pictures of Becky Bloomwood racing through New York, trying to find her boyfriend, and, of course, shopping. By the end of the story, Becky is not just a character in a book--she is someone we all can relate to in some way. The other day as I was shopping, I found myself wishing that I had a friend like Becky to exclaim over my purchases when I got back home. Shopaholic Takes Manhattan is a breezy and enjoyable read for a day on the beach, an evening snuggled up in front of the fireplace, or under the table at a boring meeting. I recommend it fully if you liked the first book, and even more if you have never read it.
Rating: Summary: A Great Sequel Review: If you loved the first Shopaholic book then you will definitely love Rebecca's trip to the States in this second book. It is hilarious and makes you laugh out loud. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading and saw that she was back to the old spending habits again...and worse than before. The plot definitely kept you interested, though. I just kept feeling so nervous for her and all the money she would spend...I've been there before! Definite recommendation!
Rating: Summary: Get a hold of yourself girl! Review: This book, honestly, just annoys me. This woman, Becky, goes out and spends all her money on clothes, and then realizes she is broke, no wait, in debt. Shes supposed to be a financial expert. And then we're supposed to feel bad for her when she loses her job, boyfriend etc.? Its your fault Rebecca! Its supposed to be funny, but its just sad a 26 year old women would ruin her life by buying to many clothes. Dont you have any self control? Get a hold of yourself. I would not recommend this book.
