Summary: Excellent book for Christian women
Review: This is a great book for any Christian woman, but especially a married woman. It would be an excellent wedding or shower gift, but it's also a refreshing and challenging book for a woman who's been married for awhile. The author's friendly Bible-based style of writing is enjoyable .... and can be life-changing!

Summary: Life changing book. Easy reading but challenging material.
Review: This is a must-read book for Christian women. It was an answer to prayer in my life. The material is thought-provoking and challenging and at times a little hard to swallow (much like the words of Jesus). But the author is gentle, positive, kind and encouraging and offers practical ways to be a Godly wife and mother. I am very thankful for this book. On my top 10 list!!

Summary: Too Over the Top
Review: We did this book in our Bible Study & found it to be way over the top. Submissive to husband, never just sitting down, staying home everyday except one, wait on husband & children without any expectations of anything in return. This book tries to put women into this little box. No - I can be a Christian woman without all that.

Summary: Read this BEFORE marriage!
Review: Wow, this book is truly an incredible resource to women seeking to fulfill their role as it is defined throughout the Bible. Elizabeth George takes a very 'real' approach in her writing- sharing the experiences she had as a new Christian gradually understanding her role as a mother and wife, her struggles, and numerous insights she received from women older and wiser than she was. Some of her views are very conservative (submission to husband, etc), but you take them with a grain of salt. She makes a point of saying that the way she lives works for HER, and that different things work for different people.

A friend of mine who is FAR from marriage encouraged me to read this book now, before getting into a serious relationship. She is so wise! Although this book largely deals with husbands, children and general family life, it's good to read early on so that you can start to cultivate the values/attitudes/skills that you will use when you finally are married.

My only criticism is that the book seems to target women who are stay-at-home moms. Sometimes the author addresses working women, but I wish she gave more practical suggestions for women who work late and don't have as much time to cater to their families as she does. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this book to everyone! It's a very inspiring read and you will undoubtedly gain some wisdom from it, no matter where you are in life.

Summary: Wonderful - calming - reassuring
Review: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CHRISTIAN WOMAN TO FIND THIS BOOK USEFUL. You just have to want God in your life and to put God first. I am so enthusiastic about this book that I am writing a review when I am only two-thirds of the way through. The principles that the author expounds are age old principles for walking with God, particularly if you are a Christian. Over the years I have heard them in church. However, here in this book, the points are pulled together in a clear and concise manner - easy to read; easy to understand.

Many writers these days create companion manuals for their work. This book deserves a companion manual - a workbook so to speak.

My one disagreement with the author is the idea of submission to one's husband. I agree that there must be mutual respect, love and honor between both parties, but for now I will have to take a rain check on the submission part. When one starts getting into submission, one gets too dangerously close to subverting one's identity to the will of another. This can lead to unhealthy consequences. Aside from this one disagreement, I LOVE THIS BOOK. I borrowed it from the library, and I will now go out and buy a copy which will be very marked, lined and highlighted. My copy will always be close at hand.
