Summary: Close to Home
Review: When I read 'Where the Heart Is,' by Billie Letts, I felt a warm familiarity in its characters and setting. You see, I am from Southeastern Oklahoma, from the Poteau area, and it is so refreshing to me to read a story that portrays people from the area, not as 'redneck hicks,' but as solid, warm, loving, generous, and thoughtful. These people-Novalee, Sister, Moses, Benny, and Forney- are MY people, and I am proud to call them family.

Summary: Preserverance is an Accomplishme
Review: Novalee is proof that you cannot judge someones attributes by their outerward appearance. She also demonstrates through her inner strenghth that lifes sorrows and difficulties do not have to be a hinderance to ones aspirations in life. Anyone can be anything they choose if they set their heart and mind to it.

Also recommended: The Broken Mirror by Kirk Douglas. This is such a soul-touching read that I can't figure out why I never see it advertised. Especially for young adolescent readers.

Summary: Learning the meaning of life
Review: This book is captivating and funny. Being 19, I related with Novalee through her successes and her mistakes. The names of the characters are strong and everlasting. I missed them all as I read the final page. I even gave the book to a lady I met on the train. Such a story needs to be passed on.

Summary: A Love Story of Many Loves
Review: My heart stayed in this book. I bought it for a few of my friends and when I finished I couldn't wait until they finished so we could discuss it. 'Where the Heart Is' is so uplifting. The book brought me to a peaceful and reassurring place. As I read, I remained knowing that there was so much love from Novalee and for Novalee that everything would be just fine. What a wonderful place to reside!!!!

Summary: A TRICKY STORY!
Review: As I began reading this novel, I thought, maybe I had made a mistake in buying it. By the time I was finished, I knew it was worth it. Novalee was a a strong, young person. She wasn't the luckiest person either, but she made it. She went from living in Wal-Mart, to falling in love with an educated man who loved both her and her daughter. This novel was a funny, wacky, and motivating story.
