Rating: Summary: A definite pager turner Review: Enjoyed this book very much from beginning to end. The characters were very real and very visual. I was proud of how Novalee improved herself over the years and did not go back to W.J. in the end. An excellent book to read for the summer
Rating: Summary: Has an intriguing beginning but drops into predictability. Review: Originally drawn to Letts' concept that someone can live in a Wal-Mart, I dived into this book. I found the characters interesting but the storyline slid into predictability by mid-point. Still worth a read but don't expect any surprises.
Rating: Summary: Somewhat implausible, but one of best I've read in a while Review: I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I'm a 17-year old writer who is a very picky reader, so you'd think that I would put this book about a girl living in a Wal-Mart (I mean, come on, right?) down after reading three chapters...but I didn't. I became so captivated by Novalee and Moses and Forney and Sister Husband that I couldn't let go. Ms. Letts has written a wonderfully readable story with those rare characters that stay with you long after you've finished the book. (Could I write for the book jackets, or what?) I also found myself falling completely in love with Forney. His love for Novalee was such a pleasure to read about, as it's rare that you find characters--or real people, for that matter!--who can love quite like that. The fact that Novalee was willing to give him up for a better life was so romantic and so RIGHT...I'm gonna stop before I swoon to death. To sum up in five words or less: Great book. Read it.
Rating: Summary: A one day reader Review: This book is a light hearted one day reader...and I really needed that. If you are looking for a book to get you through a flight, night or weekend...this is it. It is very funny and the characters are interesting and well thought out. I was impressed with the wit and style of the author. Ms. Lett kept me laughing and wanting to share every chapter with someone. Very down-home.
Rating: Summary: Not realistic, but who cares? Review: This story will warm your heart and make you believe in the power of love and friendship. So no one could actually live in a Wal-Mart store and not be caught, who cares? Novalee is a powerful character that takes us right along in her journey to adulthood. You won't be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Review: I am recommending it to all of my friends. Yes, it is a little absurd in the beginning, but as a reader, you truly fall in love with all of the quirky characters. Novalee Nation gave me hope, she was an inspring character. Even the one awful, violent incident didn't turn me off of this book; although I do think the book would have been as good without it.
Rating: Summary: excellent book with great characters Review: I really loved this book. It went very quick.I don't usually like this sort of novel but this is the exception. I felt like I really got to know the characters and the town. I look forward to reading Billie Letts next novel. I highly recommend "Where the Heart Is".
Rating: Summary: These characters grab your spirit and warm your soul! Review: A real page turner, I couln't put this book down. I feel like I'm missing my best friends now that the story has ended. Novalee Nations is a true heroine. She proves that under the worst conditions, people with big hearts and positive attitudes survive! I can't walk through a Wal-Mart now without wondering what they're all up to!
Rating: Summary: heart warming Review: Boy oh boy! Some of the people reviewing this book need to lighten up. If you thought this book would change life as we know it that's your problem. What's so bad about just enjoying a book simply because it is entertaining and is a nice read. As the mother of a two year old, I was looking for something more challenging than Pat the Bunny and a bit lighter than Beloved. I thought this book was lovely. I couldn't wait each night to put my son to bed so I could read. I'm going to start The Honk and Holler Opening Soon next. I hope it will be just as enjoyable. In the meantime, read this book. Most of you will be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: I haven't read such a good book in a long time! I read every single free second I had because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. When I was done I felt sad that I would not learn anymore about my "new friends". The characters were so wonderful and each was given just a little bit of something to make them seem more human to everyone. Thank you Billie Letts for the wonderful entertainment. I'm telling everyone I know to read this.
