Rating: Summary: shake my heart Review: Its the worst new beginning but it is a beginning. Where some are ending lifes, this one is starting. The charakters are strong and mystified, they hold you capured on a transperent way. Being there to feel there feelings. Sitting with them in there most cried for situations and laugh with them on occasion. I read this book because I heard of it in the Opera Book Club. Its always an adventure for me to read english written books. This one has taking me in from start to end, its not to hard to read and its an absulut pleasure to feel with Novalee and Americus. Interessting was, that Willy Jack is not just dissapearing from the story. Its a fine book for evening reading. It takes you to remember where your history is...
Rating: Summary: A single parent surrounded by support Review: Novalee has had a tough childhood, but seemingly chance encounters at a Walmart end up changing her life for the better. A diversity of characters end up coming together to support this young mother, each in their own special way. This book demonstrates that "family" doesn't have to be just blood relatives!
Rating: Summary: What a heartwarming wonderful book! Review: I could not put this book down. What an amazing story!! This was the best book that I have ever read, everyone must read this excellent book!!! All I can say is BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: couldn't put it down Review: This was truly a captivating novel. My heart broke with Novalee's in her time of sorrow, and I rejoiced with her in her times of happiness. It's a wonder how someone with that much hardship and dissapointment can pick themselves up and make the best of it. Well done. It left me wanting more.
Rating: Summary: A page-turner! Review: Our everyday, normal, run-of-the-mill problems seem like nothing compared to what Novalee faced in this novel. It made me feel lucky to have what and who I have in my own life
Rating: Summary: This would have to be the best book I have ever read Review: I love it! A book that can entertain, captivate and entice you to rethink your entire life so far as well as the future.I would love to know of any other books that Billie Letts has written, for if they are as good as "Where the Heart Is" I would love to not only read them but own them! Thanks Oprah for a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding character development! Review: Billie Letts creates a yearning for more in the reader, yet doesn't leave the reader "hanging." While her characters are probably not people with whom you'd choose a friendship, you fall in love with, and want to be with, them long before the story is fully told. If you like this one (and you WILL), you'll have to purchase her next: "Honk and Holler Opening Soon"! It, too, is a masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: This young woman's strength inspired me Review: Having grown up in a small Arkansas town and being disowned by my own family at 17, I truly could relate to Novalee Nation. I struggled every night to stay awake and read just one more page of her inspirational and uplifting journey. After being abandoned by her own mother and father of her child, she still managed to triumph and find love in the end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has "hit rock bottom" at some point and needs affirmation that they too, can find happiness and inner peace in their own lives.
Rating: Summary: Love, Hope, and Wonderfully Nutty People! Review: Where the Heart Is simply impressed me. I'm not one to really read books, but Novalee and all the other characters reached out and grabbed my heart, I couldn't put it down. This book is about the love and hope a complete stranger can bring to you, and it lets you know what is truly important in life. This book touched me and it is not one I will soon forget!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put this one down Review: Finally, a book from Oprah's club that I felt good for having read! I have read a few of the books from the club, and while I have found them interesting and/or thought-provoking, I never seem to really LIKE the characters. I like Novalee and her friends. They are just regualr people, living life and managing to do some good. All of these people were in bad financial situations, yet none of the them groused about being poor. They just did what they needed to do, took care of the things that needed to be taken care of. Like each other. I read the book in about 30 hours. Sometimes, it is just nice to have everything turn out the way it is supposed to in the end.
