Rating: Summary: Great book to read . I loved it!! Review: I found the characters were what kept this book interesting for me. The kindly Moses Whitecotton was one that will stay with me for awhile. After losing his one child, he takes pictures of children. That couldn't have been an easy thing to do. What a caring person he was. Novalee was the kind of girl you wish every unmarried teenage girl would aspire to be. She showed such resiliency for a girl her age. I had a hard time putting this book down. I want to read Billie Letts other book. And Billie- you are a "real writer."
Rating: Summary: An awesome book! Review: "Where The Heart Is" is a great book. I am 13 years old, and my mother gave me this book because I had nothing to read. Besides "Saving Private Ryan", this book is the best! I recommened to everyone who likes a good book about nothing really at all. Please read it!
Rating: Summary: Important reading for discovering how powerful we all can be Review: At the age of 48, I've been where Novalee Nation, the book's lead character, is. As the mother of two teenaged daughters, I'm watching my life replay itself, with a 90's flair. Mothers and daughters need to read ``Where the Heart is..'' and travel across the dusty roads of the mid-west, live life in the bathroom of a Walmart and feel good as Novalee takes her shattered life and fills it with the things that count. I've bought two copies so far, one for each of my daughters who decided life on the street was better than life here at home. I'm sending a third to their 18 year old friend who is doing 15 to life for her involvement in the murder of a 17 year old boy. I'm thinking the book will take her beyond her gray walls and allow her to travel with Novalee, finding out about the good people in life. This book's a keeper. Fern
Rating: Summary: Superb,Surprising...I acn't wait to read it again!!!!! Review: Thank you Billie for a delightful and intruging book.I couldn't put it down most of the time because the characters had my full attention and kept me wanting more...Novalee sweet, easily misled learns some lessons from angels like Moses...Sister Husband..and Forney that help to rene your faith in the goodness of people...Willy Jack..well what is there to say, except he got exactly what he deserved and I thrived off every misfortune he encountered...I forward to our book club selecting it and my reading it again...I'll pass Where the Heart Is on and on and on....Thanks again Billie and I'm waiting for the next novel
Rating: Summary: A great book- a girl in trouble makes positive choices. Review: A great book where a young girl makes positive choices to change her life for the better.
Rating: Summary: Corny, false, and overrated. Review: I wanted to like this book, but almost from the first page I felt manipulated by the cutesy, one-dimensional characters and the fake-feeling "set pieces" of the plot. The author pounds away at "warm and fuzzy," and the dents are obvious throughout. The action was fairly well-paced, but hardly unpredictable. This book is best suited to people who don't mind having their heartstrings plucked in the most artless of ways.
Rating: Summary: A journey every person wants to believe they are capable of. Review: This is a smooth and pleasant read. The characters are quirky and likable. You empathize with the pain that made them who they are. Novalee is the person we all hope we would become in the dire circumstances she faces, and I really do think is it is possible to live in a Wal-Mart!
Rating: Summary: Don't end the summer without reading this book! Review: I felt a connection to Novalee standing in the bookstore as I read the back cover. I couldn't wait to get home and dive in to "Where the Heart Is". I finished it the next day. It was so easy to read and hard to put down. I rejoiced with Novalee as she literally pulled herself up from her boot straps, to become a contributing citizen in the community in which she was stranded. And I rejoiced each time that 'ol scumbag Willy Jack got what he deserved! Letts did an outstanding job with the characters in this book. I could read it again and again, and have recommended it to all my friends. (By the way, not everyone in TN lives in a trailor)
Rating: Summary: Light, easy reading Review: When I first started reading I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but then I couldn't put it down because I had to know what happened to NovaLee. Great book! Makes you stop and think.
Rating: Summary: A good summer read. Review: I liked this book. It was entertaining and uplifting. A good book to bring on vacation. Worth the price of the paperback.
