Summary: Heart Warming
Review: I wish amazon let you give half stars because I would have given this book 4 and a half stars. However, I reserve 5 stars for the very best of books.

I didn't intend to read this book, but I was extremely short on time at the library and just grabbed it. And I am glad I did! The characters are very loveable. I had so much fun curling up with this book and a blanket. It is truly a heart warming book.

The there are two minor pitfalls to the book. First, there are subplots that are irrelevant to the plot. But they aren't too distracting. Also, throughout the whole book, there really wasn't anything you were looking forward to. It was kind of just listening to a life story that was not getting to any particular point. However, it didn't really matter because it was just interesting reading this story.

The day after I finished reading the book I rented the movie. The movie followed the plot closely however it left out so much and was so surface level that I don't know how anyone liked the movie. It never got into any depth with the characters and the acting was bad. So forget the movie and read the book! You won't be disappointed.

Summary: A great read
Review: This was one of the best novels I've read in quite some time. The characters are so intriguing that the book is an extremely quick read. I never have free time to read for pleasure as a college student, and once I found this novel, I couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved it!

Summary: What a great read!
Review: This is a FABULOUS book, earning every one it's five stars. The characters are so colorful; they spring to life from the pages. The book reminds one that human kindness still exists in this increasingly colder world, and the wonderful things that can grow from that kindness when shared. Novalee takes nothing for granted, and the reader is reminded that it is the simple things in life that bring the greatest joy and are of the most importance.

Summary: Fabulous
Review: I read this book several years ago and fell in love with the characters. Billie Letts puts you so in touch with the characters hearts that you feel like you have known them all of your life. The book was SO much better than the movie!

Summary: How can a book so heartwarming be so crude?
Review: 'Where The Heart Is,' is a true success story. It starts with 17-year-old, Novalee Nation,
heading to California in a broken down Plymouth with
red-neck boyfriend, Willy Jack Pickens. She is also
seven months pregnant and against popular thought,
this young girl thinks sevens to be 'unlucky.' She
has a right to believe this. Sevens seem to always
lead to calamity for Novalee. Yet, with sevens
abounding, she dreams of the better life that surely
awaits her in California...a nursery for her baby in a
home without wheels under it.
Soon Novalee's dreams come to a screeching halt when
Willy Jack deserts her at a Wal-Mart in Oklahoma.
Yet, had it not been for this 'seemingly unlucky'
event, she never would have found the gifts that
awaited her...a home, a family and love in the small
town of Sequoyah Oklahoma.
Each of Letts characters seem to rise up from the
printed page, to overwhelm the reader with their
realness and engrave a place in the heart, although I didn't like any parts about Willy Jack Pickens and I did skip through them because of the overwhelming crudeness. But Novalee shines! After everything she has been through and seen,
she still possesses an innocence that is enduring and
captivating.
"Where The Heart Is,' is extremely well written and I recommend this novel to those who can take the crudeness or skip around it as I did. When you do that, its a wonderful read! But sadly, I must take two stars off of a book that would have gotten five from me had it not contained those parts.

Summary: Life changing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Where The Heart Is is a book that changes how you think. It is an unbelieveable book. I fell in love with all the characters and found myself relating to Novalee in so many different ways, even though we are so different as far as our pasts are concerned. This book makes you look at people differently, especially people who are struggling through life. This book is inspiring and encouraging and a wonderful read for any teenager or adult. Even though it was a long book, that spans over 7 years, never once did it get boring. I read it on and off throughout this summer and doing so made it have a larger impact, as I slowly soaked it all in. Definetly one of the best books that I have ever read! Thank you Billie Letts-the story is amazing.
P.S. In the book I got it had a special reading group guide inside and the discussion question are so thought-profoking and great!!!!!!!! Really cool to think about!!!!!!!!!

Summary: satisfying read; the movie does the book justice
Review: You can't help but root for the main character. The story seems farfetched and straight out of National Enquirer: "Teenager hides out in Walmart, then has baby!". But these days, it pales in comparison to real life events.

I loved the character who takes her in and becomes a surrogate mother. Her love interest is a more complicated character and not as easy to love. The most grueling part of the book is reading about her downtrodden friend and the relationships she winds up in. The book draws to a happy conclusion and you feel there is justice in the world.

Summary: The Heart Shines
Review: I never heard of the novel before watching the movie - In fact, I just happened upon the book in the bookstore and was surprised the movie was based on a novel.

I like the issues the book deals with - Teen pregnancy as the highlight, of course. I have known young women who have gotten pregnant and left school, some giving their children up and others working as single moms.

I think Novalee is a good example of how one can continue on and be successful despite early unplanned childbirth and no support from the father. Sure, she makes a lot of mistakes but she grows, and in the end you see that she is a stronger person.

Summary: Where The Heart Is
Review: This is a wonderful read! The characters are so real, it seems as if you know them and you become part of their lives, feeling their joys and sorrows. It was a book I couldn't put down.

Summary: Love this book!
Review: I read this book long ago in anticipation of the movie being released. I was in no way disappointed. I immediately fell in love with the book. The movie does no justice to the book.

I have re-read the book at least 5 times since the movie version came out in theaters, and lent it out numerous times to be read by others. One person (a guy, ironically) said that the book humbled him. I agree. I guess Novalee's situation does really make you stop and think, because contrary to popular belief this does happen in real life. Abandonement, teen pregnancy, hoping to make it big... these are common day occurances across America.

I don't know exactly what it is, but I can pick the book up at any time, even knowing everything that happens, and read it again in one or two sittings. It has to be one of my absolute favorites. A definite recommend for anyone looking for a happy-ending book, especially considering it is an easy read.
