Summary: To Live and Die in Wal-Mart
Review: I never would have thought that I could use the name of a daytime TV talk show host in an actual non-sarcastic sentence but the "Oprah Club" recommended reading is actually pretty darn good. No kidding. (Ok, VERY scary exception of the "Pilot's Wife" noted. Run screaming from THAT one.) I enjoyed "Where the Heart Is" very much and will never, EVER be able to walk through a Wal-Mart again without thinking of Novalee Nation and her Wal-Mart born, "strong-named" daughter, Americus. Thanks, Billie Letts, for very special characters - all with memorable names.

Summary: A book that was real and talked about real things
Review: I thought this book was great. I couldn't put it down. It talked about how bad things really could be and how to make the best of them.

Summary: Give me a BREAK!
Review: Letts should take lessons from some of the great authors and develop fewer characters. This book had so many unbelievable characters and situations. Things happen to people but not all to the same person in real life. Once again, Oprah picked a strange book. If people feel like this is a winner, our country is in trouble--what is normal anymore? What are we trying to teach our kids is normal? People obsessed with band aid?!? That is when I knew this book was a waste of time! Oprah should pick books that make people think about ways to improve their lives!

Summary: Wonderfully funny and heartwrenching at the same time!
Review: "Where the Heart Is" was a fluke for me. I just randomly picked it up in my local bookstore, but I never thought it would change how the world looked to me. The story is sad as it is uplifting, and is a wonderful journey through the eyes of this woman who has been broken and abandoned, but not beaten. Seeing her metamorphosis into a beautiful and wonderful creature was a journey I took with her as well. This story for me was not about just friendship or survival, it was about finding your bliss, and having the right friends around you makes it easier in your search. I was thrilled when she began her love affair with photography, because her vision of the world around her was so unique. This a wonderful book about love, friends, and what makes you most happy, what completes you. Highly recommended!!!

Summary: don't overlook one of the best stories of late
Review: i usually don't find myself interested in fiction going more for kerouac, and poetry, however this book touched a nerve with great descriptive writing, wonderful character representations, and a story line that does what few can, makes you laugh and cry. when the wind blows cold, and the tree's drop leaves, this is the book you should be reading with your tea and favorite sweater.

Summary: Renewed my long-forgotten love for fiction.
Review: When my husband was ill and my beloved grandmother was dying, this book offered me refuge and re-awakened my love for fiction. I have been reading non-stop in the seven months that have followed. Letts allowed me to forget the constant analysis that I had gotten accustomed to years before as an English major and teacher, and once again I could relax with a book. Her characters are so believable, her words so crisp. After months have passed, I think of this book daily. Thank you, Billie Letts!

Summary: So Far It Has Been One Great Read
Review: So far the book, Where the Heart Is has been one great read! I haven't finished it just yet. (I only started it last night and am on page 265)Yet it has been one really great read!! I loved it, Billie Letts writes a very intriging story that keeps the reader compelled to find out what happend to Novalee and her daughter. The one flaw in the entire book was when she would keep refering back to Willie Jack. I know it was a tactic to divert our attention and keep us wanting to read more it, to me, made the book seem never-ending at times. All I wanted to know was what happens to Novalee and then we get Willie Jack the *----*. I couldn't care less about him! Well all I really have to say is GO GET THIS BOOK! OPRAH FINALLY CHOOSE A GREAT ONE!!

Summary: A wonderful book - I didn't want it to end!
Review: The fact that I liked this book so much really surprised me. I was not expecting to like Novalee, a 17 year old pregnant and uneducated teenager, but I did. I also enjoyed the quirky but good people she encountered, and I liked seeing her grow up and become her own independent person. I'd love to see a sequel to this book so we could see how all turns out in the future.

Summary: excellent, down to earth, feel-good type of novel
Review: I thought this was great!! I have raved about it to friends and have passed it down to them. It was easy to read and kept me going throughout the novel. I enjoyed the different names and characters very much. It made me feel good to see a young girl overcome lifes hardships with the help of a few good friends. I am hooked on Billie Letts novels and have read The Honk and Holler Opening soon. I am looking forward to a new one.
