Summary: why are rural poor always victims?
Review: interestingly written and fairly sharp in its delineation of characters, but there are so many books about working-class women that always show them as victims. This was a good read but try 'A Manual Of Etiquette For Ladies Crossing Canada By Train' for a working girl with pizzazz and smarts. Also 'Alaska Highway Two-Step. There are stories out there about non-rich women who can hold their own! Also. 'My Date With Satan'. Oprah tries for compassion in her picks but they always end up so helpess and victimized! Can we have a balance?

Summary: This book was captivating the first time, but the 2&3..
Review: I loved this book the first time I picked it up. I loved it so much I decided to read it a second time. Good decision. I realized that this book is basically a series of tragic events, one after another, no climax, no plot. Some events are completely unnecessary and just confuse thereader further. There is too much going on and there no clear point to the story.

Summary: All around good Book!
Review: This book really kept me going. It was an all around good book that will keep your interest. I didn't want to put the book down and read it in two days! Not very predictable, but great ending! (also while passing through Sallisaw, OK- the town the book was set in - I had to make a special trip by the Wal-Mart.)

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: This book shows you the true meaning of life in moving way.
Review: What would you do if you were left at a Wal-Mart is some town that you don't know, when you are seventeen and pregnant without any money? That is just was Novalee Nation had to do.

Novalee never really had a good childhood and when she met Will Jack she thought she was in love. That was until she got pregnant and left at Wal-Mart.

The little town that Novalee is stranded at makes her feel welecome. A blue-haired religious woman takes Novalee and her baby, Americus, in as her own and the librarian falls in love with her. This book shows you the struggles of life that Novalee goes through to make all ends meet and all the struggles of everyday life. It also shows you the true meaning of life in a moving yet funny way. This book definitely shows you "Where the Heart Is".

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book teaches its readers how to truly appreciate life!
Review: I can't imagine life getting any worse than being abandoned in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart amidst unfamiliar surroundings, seven months pregnant and with only seven cents to your name. Yet, this is the tragedy Novalee Nation is faced with and, when most people would throw in the towel, she makes lemonade out of the lemons life has handed her. Throughout this novel, Novalee manages to overcome personal tragedy by focusing on the positive aspects of her life. Regardless of her misfortune, Novalee concentrates on what she has gained through her personal experiences such as a new baby girl, the gift of true friendship and the chance to start a new life. However meager Novalee's life may seem, she possesses the ability to be truly happy and fully appreciate the true meaning of life. She teaches her readers that its the small things in life that matter the most and a house is simply a structure, but a home is where love can be found and shared no matter where you are.

Summary: WORTH EVERY PENNY!
Review: THIS BOOK KEEPS HUMMING ALONG. A VERY EASY READ. I WAS SORRY IT ENDED. A "FEEL-GOOD" BOOK WHERE THINGS WORK OUT WELL FOR ALMOST EVERYONE (NOT QUITE LIKE THE REAL WORLD, BUT THAT'S WHY I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH). KEEP THEM COMING, AND I WILL KEEP READING!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best!
Review: This is one of the best books I have EVER read. For me, it was a story of a young girl maturing into a self-reliant, loving, caring and giving woman. I learned that if you take life one step, one day, one moment at a time and keep a smile in your heart, then you will be the best person you can be. I cried, smiled and clapped at each journey she took. Couldn't put it down!!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: I found this book to be boring and predictable.
Review: I have been reading a number of books from Oprah's book club, and I must say that this is the worst I've read. The plot is merely a story of a girl who goes to a new town where she runs into one problem after another in a seemingly disconnected series of events. Letts seems to have said, "OK, what can I make happen now?" It's predictable, and it's a book where you just pray for the boring and obvious ending.
