Rating: Summary: yech. Review: When the reader-reviewers' enthusiastic words of praise include "Quickest read ever!" and "Finally, a book you don't need a degree to understand!"-- well, you know you're in trouble. The characters are two-dimensional and utterly predictable; the plot even more so (if that's possible). Billie Letts works every poor-but-plucky small-town-gal cliche in the book. As I said, yech.If you want a REAL slice of small town life, with characters you can believe in and whose problems you actually care about, try Barbara Kingsolver. Now THERE'S a writer!
Rating: Summary: The book was great Review: I am an auditor and read this book during tax season. The book diverted my attention away from everyday stress to total enjoyment. I highly recommend reading it.
Rating: Summary: a quick read Review: yes, I think I finished this book in about a day, but don't let that fool you into thinking that it was overly entertaining. It, quite honestly, was kind of useless, kind of silly, and rather trite. Too fairy-taleish for my taste. Could the novel have been any more predictable? To the reader who complained about the "not normal" names: most are Native-American. That was the one redeaming quality of the book. Letts tries to diversify. But, after just fininshing SHE'S COME UNDONE, I didn't feel this book rated five stars, the way Lamb's did. Read that one if you're interested in more than beach reading.
Rating: Summary: A very good read Review: I finished reading this book in one straight read. It is truly entertaining. The characters are memorable but hardly credible [I mean, are they really people like sister husband?!]. In fact, Willy Jack sounds like the most realistic character of the lot.
Rating: Summary: This is a beautiful, captivating book! Review: WOW! I loved this book! It is heartwarming and truly wonderful. The action never ceased, and I couldn't put it down. The characters are unique, the storyline is dramatic and humorous at the same time - it's just great! READ it! This is such a great concept for a book, and it's so wonderfully funny in the way it presents itself, that it's no wonder everyone likes it so much. The characters are so strong, so intriguing. The description is realisitc, and - OH, it's just GREAT! What are you still reading my review for? ORDER IT! NOW!
Rating: Summary: This is now my favorite book! Review: All I can say is read this book. It is wonderful, inspiring, it makes you believe in people, it gives you hope. After I read this book I gave it to my mom. When she read the title she told me "If this is a soap type novel I really don't want to waste my time." When she gave it back to me she said "Treasure this book, it is a keepsake. There aren't many wonderful books like this one." If you knew my mother you'd say...This says it all I must read this book.
Rating: Summary: I think this book wasn't all it could've been. Review: This book was very boring! It could've been better. The beginning was very good but when i got to the middle I got really bored and towards the end wasn't that good either. It could've been more challenging to read. Those are the types of books I like. They have to be challenging causing you to want to read more.I'm not trying to say Billie Letts isn't a good writer,BUT it could've been better.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was a bad ending for a book, I mean Come on on! Review: It was a bad ending because whhy would she help Willy Jack? Plus, toward the end they were saying about Willy Jack and his 'musical' career, who wants to hear about him, it was such a waste of time and valuable time to do something else like watch t.v or shop!
Rating: Summary: I think the book was a total put down. Review: I think the book totally miss lead you. It was ok in the beginning of the book. But towards the middle it was like lets stop reading cuz it's the same old thing. Except for the point that there was every culture in the book.Maybe Sister Husband shouldn't have died. The book was way to predictable.
Rating: Summary: You'll never forget this book. Review: "Where The Heart Is" is one of the best books I have read in a long time. You will never forget Novalee, Americus, Sister Husband and the other wonderfully written characters. I simply couldn't put it down. It comes highly recommended.
