Rating: Summary: That warm, fuzzy feeling . . . Review: This book made me start reading again! It is filled with wonderful side narratives and the story itself brings one on an emotional roller-coaster. I highly encourage all young women to read this book: it is very uplifting and can be constructed for all.
Rating: Summary: Menace to Aviation Review: I bought this book in Atlanta to read on a 5 hour flight to San Diego. From the premise, I thought, hm, a modern _Evening Primrose._ But no such luck. If I could have opened a window to toss it out over Abilene, I would have. I know that opening a window at 40,000 feet would probably have killed everyone on board. I would have taken that chance. It has just enough nastiness in it to make the treacle resemble real life to the young or uncritical reader but not enough insight, observation, or style to make either worth enduring. At least it should give hope to every hack who thinks (s)he has a bestseller living in the cupboard.
Rating: Summary: Jumps around too much Review: I enjoyed this book, but felt that it skipped over too many parts. For example, I wanted to know more about what happened in Walmart. It seemed as if we were about to be shown this and suddenly, next chapter, it's several months later. The book reminded me of a novel version of a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. It's heartwarming to a point, but then it begins to seem unrealistic.
Rating: Summary: The Most Wonderful Book I have ever read Review: When I first recieved this book for Christmas of 1998, I was not at all happy. I was not a reader then, having only read books for school. But when I cracked it open and read the first page, I was hooked. Throughout the whole book I laughed, cried and smiled with the characters. I could feel their pain, their happieness and their hardships. I strongly recomend this book to all who like a moving, full of happieness book.
Rating: Summary: Where the Heart is. Review: This book is a wonderful book about a girl that at 17 has people to help her out when she thought the world was about to end. She gives hope to others. I shows you what some strangers can do for you. In this case they changed the course of Novalee's life. This is a great book and I recommend it for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Funny and uplifting Review: I have read several of Oprah's recommendations, but liked this one most of all, well, also loved Wally Lamb's books. What's so special about this one is the humor, and how the main character thrives in the midst of such desperate conditions. This is a great story to renew your faith in the goodness of human beings, and you will never again shop without thinking of this story!
Rating: Summary: When do we get the sequel? =) Review: I was amazed that my ex-mother-in-law could pick out such a wonderful book for me... sure there were times when I disliked the names in it, and there were times when I predicted what happened. However, there is love, truth, and reality in this book. Those who dislike it might be frightened that things like what happened to Novalee really do happen. People do have to fend for themselves. Additionally, I absolutely fell in love with Forney. He was wonderful. I tried to imagine what happened after they left for Tennessee again, and hopefully someday Billie will let us know. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a heartwarming, truthful story. For those of you who state that "you don't need an education to enjoy" and "this story was either one or two dimensional", I have a masters degree in education and I believe it was intelligently written. It read it in two sittings. (Ugh... I really couldn't put it down) Thank you for reading my review.
Rating: Summary: A great book! Review: This book is great! It describes how a struggling girl copes with life and love while discovering who she really is. This book is worth 4 stars!
Rating: Summary: Compassionate, compelling and one huge celebration of spirit Review: Just when you think the world has gone to hell in a hand basket -- you find a read like this. A unique and I think accurate depiction of what "true wealth" might be. This book is about gratitude and not the sappy, insincere kind. But gratitude that presents itself in action without expecting something in return. A treasue... You'll smile without even knowing you're smiling...
Rating: Summary: Where The Heart Is Review: I thought that this book was absolutly amazing. It made me want to keep reading. I thought that it was deffinetly a favorite. I thought in some parts that it was a little slow, but the rest was so good, that it didn't matter. If you're looking for a good story, look here!
