Rating: Summary: An instant favorite! Review: Where the Heart Is tells the inspirational, heartwarming tale of Novalee Nation, a pregnant teenager abandoned at a Wal-Mart in Oklahoma, hundreds of miles from anyone she knows. From the first chapter, I fell in love with the story of Novalee and characters who come to be not only her friends but her mentors and sources of inspiration and support. This is a wonderfully written novel which is not only entertaining but also reaffirms my beliefs in the goodness of man and the power of self determination.
Rating: Summary: Oh, the tale Ms. Letts tells... Review: I absolutely loved this book. I laughed out loud, cried, and bounded for joy. Living in a Walmart, tornadoes tearing up trailers, and true love found. This book was sweet, innocent, funny, sad, happy and I couldn't put it down. Life at it worst, best, but most of all life as it really is.

Rating: Summary: Inspirational Review: This book was very easy to read, and envolve yourself in. There is good character developement, giving you a wider ranged scope then just the main character as in most books. Each person in the book has a little problem thoughout the way, but there is always someone to catch them when they fall. This book shows a great example of a network of friends stronger then many people can imagine, and a great deal of hope. The upbeat, can-do attitude keep you spirits up as you read, but still allows you to feel for and with the characters every step of the way.
Rating: Summary: Page Turner, Tear Jerker, & More! Review: I can't believe what an amazing book this is! It was one of the first novels I read outside of college that I wasn't going to be quizzed on. I loved every page and every minute I spent reading it. It was fast moving, so I never got bored with it. The story was so real and the characters made it come alive. I recommended it to several friends and they have all loved it too. If you are looking for a book to read to cuddle next to the fire with, or enjoy a few days at the beach, I would recommend this one!
Rating: Summary: Staying Strong Review: Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts, is an inspirational story of a young woman learning to survive. Through the use of metaphorical expressions, figurative language, and imagery the story of Novalee Nation comes to life. Novalee, a pregnant girl from a small community, gives birth to her fatherless daughter Americus in the town's Wal-Mart. Novalee's struggles reveal to her the lessons of life. She learns that she can get through her troubles by surrounding herself with people who love her. I enjoyed this book because it gave me inspiration and hope to become a better person. I never know when a situation can arise and I need someone I can depend on that will help me through my hardships. Letts truly expresses what it is to overcome obsticles in life and to live to the fullest potential.
Rating: Summary: Where the Heart Is Review: Billie Letts creates a heartwarming story about a young girl, Novalee Nation, who must endure a life of misfortunes. She is only seventeen and is pregnant. On a trip to California with her boyfriend Willy Jack she is left at a Wal-Mart in Oklahoma and has very little money. Novalee ends up living in the Wal-Mart for a few months and even has her child there. During this time she makes many close friends in the little town of Sequoyah. She befriends Forney,Lexie Coop, and Sister Husband. These people treat her as though they have known her their whole lives. The plot covers events in Novalee and her daughter, Americus's life. It basically sends the message to the reader that life does go on and God will take care of you and see that everything is resolved. I personally loved this book. At times though it was a little boring. But I thought the message it sent out was positive. The protagonist Novalee did experience hardships throughout her life, but in the end she realized that that's just life and everything happens for a reason. Also, this novel illustrates the importance of friendship. If Novalee and Americus had not had friends that might have been living on the street and not had a chance to give and receive love. I would recommend this book to females because it deals with issues best understood by them. I doubt a male would enjoy this read quite as much. Overall, I thought it was a spectacular book and I would definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Forgiveness and Hope Review: Willy Jack, who knocked-up 17 year old Novalee seven months ago in Tennessee, is taking her for a ride to California after pocketing her savings. He'd told Novalee that he's going to get a job with the railroad, which is true, but he plans to work only long enough to lose a finger and collect insurance as his cousin had done. By the time they get to Sequoyah, Oklahoma though, Willy Jack is fed-up with Novalee's babbling about their dream home, and her pleading for him to stop so she can pee. That's when she loses her shoes through a hole in the floorboards, and Willy Jack has to stop and give her ten bucks for sandals. When the clerk hands Novalee $7.77 in change, she knows Willy Jack has split, because sevens are unlucky for her. From this desperate situation, Novalee struggles to survive with help from vivid, quirky characters who are saturated with the human spirit. Letts writes about love and heartbreak, trust and betrayal, dreams and despair, determination and despondency. She stirs us to gasp, swear and chuckle over the tenderness, viciousness or irony of the human experience. In the end though, there is forgiveness and hope.
