Rating: Summary: Easy Read, but less than perfect Review: I read this book in two days. The story was interesting and I enjoyed reading it. However, I really didn't care what happened to the boyfriend and even considered skipping those chapters for that reason. I must say that he got what he deserved, but quite frankly the story would have been better if we never heard from him again after he disappeared the first time (Yes, I know that screws up some parts later on, but they could have improved too). The characters were interesting enough to keep me reading, but I felt like I barely got to know them before the book was over.
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming Review: Definately one to read. This book had a great plot and remained unpredictable and very realistic all throughout the story. It had all the elements of a great read and it was hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful work! Review: This book shows the dreams of a teenager in an unfortunate situation can come true ... with time, good people and a smart outlook on life. It shows that life can be hard, but there are always things along the way to aid one's success! I bought the book only yesterday (Jan 20) and finished it today (Jan 21). I haven't done that in a while, so I can confidently say that Letts has completed a captivating and engaging work!
Rating: Summary: Vapid and Insipid Review: I am amazed at the positive response this novel is getting! I did not realize that this was an Oprah-sanctioned read when I purchased it--I guess that explains some of it.How sugary sweet, isn't life wonderful, blah, blah, blah! Just what I want to read about. As a general rule, I abstain from Oprah's books.
Rating: Summary: Predictable and Unenchanting Review: In Where the Heart is, everything is like that small town where Novalee lands--boring, slow paced, and uneventful. The book is terribly predictable and unexciting. I do not reccommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Whimsical Review: This book was hard to put down. I was caught up in the characters and wonderful way the author brought them to life. I didn't want it to end.
Rating: Summary: INSPIRING Review: For those of us who feel that to start a life at 17 and pregnant is an absolutely hopeless experience, this book surely proves us wrong. Letts creates a genuinely honest character with infinite courage. Following this character through her life is a heartwarming adventure. It is a quick and easy read with a very direct plot.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: I thought this book was great. I could not put it down. This is one of the better books I read in a long time.
Rating: Summary: exquisite, sensitive characters will touch you deeply Review: I was deeply touched by the new "friends" I met in Where the Heart is. As an avid, sophisticated reader, I was not looking for a book like this, and did not think I'd be able to relate to the story at all, but I reluctantly accepted the recommendation of a friend. I'm so glad I did, for the book was one of the best I read all year. The characters will fill your spirit and stay with you long after the book has been read. I was moved to write this review almost 6 months after reading it. If you value your time, and if you read to enrich your heart as well as just your mind and your inner self, I believe you will cherish this tender, knowing book. There is so much truth there... I just know there are real people exactly like these quirky characters, and I feel the time reading this book was a valuable use of my very limited and cherished reading time. Enjoy...
Rating: Summary: Great Vacation Read Review: I read this book on my vacation from school and I thought it was great! I agree with the reader below that it was a little cheesy, but it was a relaxing, easy read, and I don't think there's anything wrong with a little cheese every now and then. The characters were very three dimensional for me, and I was so relieved to read something that didn't end up utterly depressing me by the end for once. If you're looking for a nice light, interesting read, try Where the Heart Is...
