Rating: Summary: Not too bad, it is fiction... keep that in mind... Review: ... although, as you read it, It may not be too difficult to remember that. I should have predicted they'd make this into a movie - after all, Oprah's picks have been popular for movie productions these days.Anyway, a 17 year old, 7 months pregnant girl who is traveling with the guy who knocked her up, (I'd say boyfriend, but he was just the sperm donor) gets dumped at a Wal-mart, in a strange town. So, Novalee does what any person abandoned in a strange town would do, lives in the walmart after closing time. This must be the walmart where nobody takes inventory there, because they didn't miss the food and clothing being missing. Anyway, she gets away with this for the remaining two months of her pregnancy, and then gives birth (you guessed it) IN the wal-mart. Nobody asks any questions about where she's from or anything, they just take pity on her and give her a job at WalMart. Then she stays with the people she met on the first day, and gets to know them really well, and a lot of deep stuff happens. Just in case all the touchy feely fell-good stuff gets a little boring, a rape scene is thrown in there for shock value, and possibly to get Oprah to choose this for her book club. Anyway, I may just see the movie, if only to see whether it improves the book or follows the very easy to read story as written.
Rating: Summary: A heartwarming story Review: This book is excellent. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Billie Letts develops the characters well and the reader feels as if they are part of the story. I love it and would recommend it to anyone.

Rating: Summary: Where the Heart Is Review: This book is simply incredible. You fall in love with the characters as soon as you meet them. Billie Letts expresses and conveys the thoughts and feelings of the main character, Novalee, in such a way that it's almost as if you're seeing things through her eyes. The other characters are also each given a unique quality that contributes to the story and helps bring the entire book together. With each new turn of events, you felt yourself drawn more and more into their lives. When there was joy, you smiled. When there was sadness, you cried. And when there was anger, you felt the rage rise in your chest as well. It takes an awesome writer to be able to do that to a reader, and Letts is one of the few who has such a gift. Good book for young women too I believe. May make them stop and think how maybe things aren't so bad for them after all and how it's possible to turn a potentially bad situation into a good one regardless of your age, where you came from, or who you are.
Rating: Summary: It takes all kinds of folks to make a home Review: The story of Novalee, Americus, Sister Husband, Forney, and all the quirky, lovable characters in Sequoyah, OK is one filled with miracles, coincidences, and a good dose of luck! As I followed this resilient single mother's journey I was constantly reminded of how important it is to pay close attention to the details of everyday life. We're reminded to celebrate living, surrounding ourselves with kindness, and keeping our hearts open for whatever adventure awaits. At the end of the book, I pictured Novalee and Forney growing old together, surrounded by a multitude of children, and even more special friends. I would highly recommend this book if you're looking for a light read.
Rating: Summary: This book is cool Review: 17 years old, 7 months pregnant and 37 pounds over weight, Novalee is stranded at Wal Mart with $7.77. Novalee always had bad luck with 7's. She was abandoned at Wal Mart, when her boy friend dumped her off. She struggles very much. After two months of hiding, suffering, and deprivation, her baby is born in Wal Mart. Soon she becomes very popular. Her new baby girl is known as the Wal Mart baby. But she has no where to turn. She is in a new city, where she doesn't know anyone. She meets many new people, and everyone is so nice to her. Novalee is a very interesting character. She is a woman of optimism, creativity, and intelligence. She pretty much depended on everyone else to survive. Can she survive in a new town on other people? The book keeps you in suspense, so you will want to keep reading on. She learns about love, kindness, and the lessons of life. I would recommend this book to everyone. It is a great book. You fall in love with Novalee and all the characters. It is a fun loving book, one in which all ages would enjoy. The book really is a path to show where the heart is.
Rating: Summary: Where the Heart Is Review: Where the Heart Is was a touching book that I would recommend to anyone. Although it could have used somemore character description and a little more detail about what happens to the characters. There was also a lot of unrealistic complications that kept coming one after another that we cannot relate to. Willy Jack is a real big jerk, but his story shouldn't have been put in it. There was no point especially when the story was mostly about Novalee. Otherwise this book is great to do a report on for your English class, and this is coming from a 15 year old.
