Rating: Summary: Doesn't quite make the grade Review: This book is too superficial and sappy to really satisfy. The characters could be interesting if they weren't either completely perfect or completely evil. A more balanced and realistic approach would have been preferable.
Rating: Summary: Heart and Soul Review: What a great book. And now a movie is coming out! Anyway, this book has feeling. It has a sense of direction. It makes sense. And you will love it, I promise. You are HOOKED the moment you start. BUY THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: A novel rich with heart Review: I borrowed a friend's copy for a day, but after I got through half of it, I realized I was going to REALLY enjoy the novel, so I purchased my own copy.It is a sweet story about a young girl finding herself. This has since become one of my favorite books, because I love the way it seems so real. These incidents could really happen, and might have. I fully recommend this novel to anyone searching for a good read, and can hardly wait to read another of Lett's novels.
Rating: Summary: This book is addictive! Review: From the very beginning of this book I was completely hooked on Novalee's life. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen to her next. This character is an inspiration to women! She takes a horrible situation and completely turns herself around. By the end of the book, not only are you proud of her, you want to know where her story will go from there!
Rating: Summary: Ren's Review of Where the Heart Is Review: The book, Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts is a great book. It is fast reading and tells a great story. It is about Novalee Nation, a 17-year-old who is seven months pregnant, with $7.77, and she's stranded in a Wal-Mart Store because her boyfriend left her there. Sevens are Definitely unlucky for her! Novalee decides to live in Wal-Mart and she meets many people in just an hour. Novalee will soon find out the this little town of Sequoyah, Oklahoma is her home. And, after all, that is Where the Heart IS
Rating: Summary: A gotta read book! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! I felt as if I was there with Novalee on her journey to get her life on track. It is a very heart warming book! You gotta get it!
Rating: Summary: Where the Heart Is Review: This is a well written book about one girl's quest to put the past behind her. Seven month pregnant, Novalee Nation, begins the book with her not-so-great boyfriend who leaves her stranded at a Wal-Mart in Oklahoma. As the story continues Novalee has her baby. She also meets three very loving people Forney Hull, Benny Goodluck, and Sister Husband. They all have their own problems, but take her in anyways after they find out that she has been living in Wal-Mart for months. Throughout the book many people take advantage of her, and many don't understand her,yet she goes on with life. This is the type of book that ends, but you wish for it to continue, that is why I like this book so much.
Rating: Summary: best recommendation I ever got Review: A friend of mine recommended this book to me so I went to the library and checked out a copy. Three days and 358 pages later, I was done and completely satisfied with the book. I gave it to my mother to read and she finished it in about the same time period. I could barely put this book down. I think it really captures the trailer-park essence of this country. Novalee is a strong character that couldn't have been written any better than she was. Bravo to Billie Letts! This is one book that I will never forget.
Rating: Summary: simply put...it's very good Review: Very few books will bring tears and laughter, but Letts managed to bring them to me over and over in "Where the Heart Is." her cast of characters was amazingly down-home, giving me no doubt that these characters really exist, even the bad ones. Each character was so well developed and consistent that I felt like they were reading the book to me. Not only did the book bring tears and laughter, but it also managed to hold my attention in an entire evening...I finished it in one sitting...I don't know about others, but that rarely happens with me. I reccomend this book to anyone...it will lighten their heart and brighten their day.
Rating: Summary: Every teenage girl should read it Review: I once taught high school in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, the setting of this book. I wish every high school girl could read it. The main character starts out pregnant and leaves town with her boyfriend who abandons her in an Oklahoma Walmart. Without preaching, the book shows that a women can only become truly strong when she starts relying on herself and not a man.
