Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: I think this book may be one of the best books I have ever read. In less than a day I finished this novel about an pregnant teenager on her way to California with her boyfriend. As most of you know, she ends up alone and deserted at a Wal-Mart where she then has the baby later on. The rest of the book is about her struggles, triumphs, and the people who she meets and help her along the way in the small town where she now resides in Oklahoma. I really hope you enjoy this book because I certainly did. It is well worth reading and I encourage you to add it to your personal library.
Rating: Summary: Look Where My Heart Is Review: When I first saw movie previews for this story, I thought, "I have to see it." I was later shocked to find out that my mother owned a copy of the book. She had not read it yet so I borrowed it and have finished it in 3 days. That is how good this book is. It fits the stereo-typical "can't put it down" criteria as well as holds you. It pulls you into the reality of teenage parenting, bad relationships, best friends, neighbors who really care, money, abuse, and death. I for one cried toward the end. The good times far outweigh the bad times and even the good times deserve a good cry. I love this book. And I am sure that no matter what the movie is like or how true it is, this book will not suffer for it.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Ever Read Review: This was a great book. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a good book. It is so engrossing you can read it in one sitting, if you have the time.
Rating: Summary: I *LOVED* this book! Review: I heard about the movie, Where The Heart Is, and I was in Best Buy and saw the book and I HAD to buy it. I had the book finished the day I got it. It's such a great book, you have to read it! I hope the movie is as good as the book!
Rating: Summary: More than a book about White-Trash America... Review: When I read a book, I tend to gravitate towards stories that offer an escape into something unreal. When I first began "Where the Heart Is," my initial reaction was doubtful that this book would inspire me or offer me such an escape...I had no desire to be transported into the life of a knocked-up teenage girl as she rolled across the midwest in a car so delapidated the floorboards had been rusted out. I was worried that this would not be an escape, but a glimpse into the harsh reality of life in poverty. But after 2 chapters, I was hooked--not in an escape of fantastic adventures or palacial surroundings, but in a human character so ideal it was wonderfully inspiring. The main character, Novalee Nation, and her somewhat motley crew of friends, find joy and upliftment in everyday life in a town I would never desire to visit based on its surroundings--the greatest point of interest being a Wal-Mart. But just when you think life is mundane in this little hole-in-the wall of a town, you are jolted into catastrophes and crises that weak human spirits could never survive. Through it all, this little band of uneducated and lower-class citizens endures--even flourishes--amidst the strife. And the result is a breathtaking view of life and humanity that one can only hope to aspire to. I began thinking I was reading about White-Trash America and ended feeling I had taken a peek into the lives of heros. Inspiring!
Rating: Summary: Best Saturday spent in a long time! Review: I started reading this book, and much to my amazement, even refused to meet friends because I was so enthralled with this excellent novel. After reading about Novalee's incredible inner strength, I felt stronger myself. Kudos to Billie Letts for this amazing journey into a young woman's turbulent, yet sucessful life.
Rating: Summary: One of my favourite books. Couldn't put it down Review: When you start the book, you will be introduced to a 17 year-old girl, Novalee who is pregnant. What makes this story so unique is that it's a love story. Not only between a man and a women but between Novalee and all the other characters. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves fiction.
Rating: Summary: I'm embarrased to say I loved it Review: I just got done reading Where the Heart is after 2 days ofnon-stop reading. I just plain couldn't put it down. It wasentertaining, the charecters were familiar and loveable, the storyenticing from page one. The reason I'm embarrased is because I'm a guy who as a rule detests romance novels as much as a paper cut. The only reason I picked up the book was because Natalie Poortman was on the cover along with Ashley Judd. I read the first page..then the second and third..and soon I had finished the chapter and was standing in the checkout line with the book face down hoping no one would see me buying it. I won't go into a summary of everything I liked about it, as there are plenty of summaries already on the page. I will say that I would highly recommend this book to any woman, and to any guy who loves a good story and feels comfortable lying to the cashier about who he's buying the book for. END
Rating: Summary: Crisp Portrait of Real Life in the States Review: Billie Letts creates a stunning image in this wonderful tale of survival and courage. It is incredibly well written, and easy to fall in love with. I'd recommend it to anyone, male or female....
Rating: Summary: Highly Enjoyable Review: The story of Novalee was one of a very believable and courageous girl. I admired the spirit which kept her going in the face of unbelievably difficult circumstances. One of the things I most enjoyed about this book was how the reader feels as if he knows personally every single character. The author shows the personalities of her characters not only as far as they relate to Novalee, but she also shows many aspects of their histories and individualities. The basic story could have taken place in my own hometown. Lexie, and her poor taste in men, was my mother. Moses, with his warm heart, could have been only one of many elderly men to which I owe a great debt for their encouragement. I see Willie Jack in some form every day of my life. Sister Husband, on the other hand, will remain one that I only wish I could meet.
