Summary: Easy read not just for girls...
Review: Contrary to belief, this is not a "chick-book." Being a 26 year old guy, I enjoyed this book. There's nothing earth-shattering about it and it IS quite an easy read. I would have liked to have seen the relationship between Forney and Novalee explored and developed a little bit further.

They only real trouble I had with the book was the flipping back and forth between Novalee's story and Willy Jack's story. Novalee's was interesting, but Willy Jack's was a bit boring and really didn't add anything to it.

If you're looking for an easy to pass away the weekend, then this is your book. It's pleasant, enjoyable and worth a day or two. And it's not just for women to enjoy.

Summary: Great read
Review: This book was amazing. I could not put it down. However if you do not like this type of book your not going to like it. This book had my emotions all coming out, I laughed and cried through the entire book. It was a very easy read. If you are looking for a more difficult book with twists and turns you won't find it in this book. I loved this book and would read it again. Someone obviously loved the book too because now it is a movie. (I have not seen it yet though.)

Summary: Loved It
Review: I loved this book! Where the Heart Is is a heartfelt book full of laughter and tears told through the eyes of a young girl who finds herself in a small town in Oklahoma. I love the names in this book. They're so creative! Novalee finds herself in some bad predicaments and is helped out of them by the loving friends she meets. This book has a little bit of everything. I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a really good book. You won't regret it!

Summary: A Big Disappointment
Review: I expected much more from a book this acclaimed, i don't know what all this five star stuff is about. This story was way to unrealistic, and sugary sweet. Everything was wrong from the way Novalee (a 17 year old) handled things, to the number of things that happened, from a killer tornado, to child abuse. This is like all of the worst soap opera's combined. I definantly wouldn't recomend this book to anyone with a mental ability above that of a third graders

Summary: why, oprah, why?
Review: I have read approximatley four of the Oprah book club books. and this was the latest one i tried to read. why must she always pick the lamest books? with annoying characters ? and somewhat depressing circumstances? How many times can we read about some poor soul that has lost their way and tries to find it throughout the book! this is just so far fetched and sugar coated. this book did start off okay, and i did somewhat like the style of billie letti's writing. but then it just got to the point where nothing good was happening, i totally lost interest in the characters and couldn't even finish the bore. i skimmed the last couple of chapters just to see what happened..which wasn't much! total disappointment on my part. if you have found any of oprah's selections bad in the past, skip this one.

Summary: where the heart is
Review: Where the Heart Is, is about a young girl named Novalee, seventeen and pregnant. She and Willy Jack, her no good boyfriend, were on their way to California, when an unexpected thing happens. Novalee suprisingly finds herself alone and lost in a Wal-Mart parking lot with nothing on her but $7.77 and her unborn child. She then meets three uniquely individuals, an elderly woman, a Native American boy and an African American photographer. Novalee will soon find out that these three individuals will play an important part in her life. They will show her the importance of love, comfort, and acceptance in life.

I would have to say that this is one of the best books I've ever read. Where the Heart Is will make you have a different perspective in life as well as in others. It will give you hope, strength and trust in yourself and the people around you. Where the Heart Is will show you that sometimes love is all we need to get by in life. The story will make you cry, but it will also bring a smile to your face. I strongly recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: "Where the Heart Is"
Review: I first experinced "Where the Heart Is", when I went to the movies w/ my best friend to see the movie. My best friend did not want me to take her to see a "Hick Movie", but after seeing the commercial, I said Girl, this has become my favorite movie. I fell in love w/ the movie, and cried, and laughed, not nesscerely in that order:) I can tell you that I am about to read the book, and relize that it will not be the same as the movie, but I don't care, this girl has found her favorite book and movie, I have became a devout reader of Novalee Nation, and I hope to read more about her, if Ms. Letts is reading this, I hope she will write a sequel:) Novalee and Americus have so much ahead, and i would love to be there to see. GREAT BOOK:)

Summary: An Excellent Novel...
Review: Billie Letts did an excellent job of portraying a young Novalee Nation, a girl who finds herself pregnant and abandoned in a Wal-Mart, in the novel Where The Heart Is. At the age of seventeen, Novalee is left to survive on her own with just $7.77 when her boyfriend, Willy Jack Pickens, abandons her at a Wal-Mart in the small town of Sequoyah, Oklahoma. Throughout Novalee's stay at the Wal-Mart Letts develops a variety of unique and considerate people with whom Novalee has encounters. Letts shows how Novalee learns many lessons from all of the people who she meets, and that learning is a life-long journey. Letts introduces Novalee to many people who have a significant impact on her life, from the Bible pushing Sister Thelma Husband to the elderly photographer Moses Whitecotton. Where The Heart Is allows teenagers to see how life can be if they do not make the right decisions. Letts created a situation and confronts problems to which most teenagers can relate in this novel. Such as the awkward , and most times uncomfortable topic as the consequences of sex. Through Letts' realistic style of writing the reader feels as if they are taking each step that Novalee takes right beside her. Letts develops a plot that moves along at a perfect pace. The plot development is not so fast that you can not comprehend what is going on, but it always leaves you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen next. In addition, Letts always has other characters in the novel facing problems which help to keep the reader interested. At the end of the novel I had only two negative criticisms. The first was that I found it unrealistic that Novalee could have lived in a Wal-Mart without ever being caught. The other was that I was not necessarily interested in the life of Willy Jack Pickens, after he abandoned Novalee. However, these two aspects of the book are easily overlooked because the reader quickly becomes wrapped up in the problems that Letts presents Novalee and the other characters with. I would recommend Where The Heart Is to all teenagers, both boys and girls. The novel teaches many lessons of the heart, and would be beneficial for any teenager to read. Where The Heart Is teaches the reader how tender and delicate a person's heart is, as well as how powerful the words "I love you," are. With each new character introduced in the novel something new is learned. Such as how love is a powerful thing, and should never be determined by the financial status of a person. Forney's love for Novalee and her daughter, Americus, demonstrated this life lesson clearly. Overall, Letts compassionately told the story of the young and innocent Novalee, who she seems to hold sympathy for. I would recommend Where The Heart Is by Billie Letts to anyone who wants to read a heart-warming novel, that is very hard to put down.

Summary: Heart Warming Story
Review: Where the Heart Is was a truely uplifting and enjoyable book. From the opening paragraph, the book is filled with rich, visual writing. Novalee, the main character, never becomes the victim, even though many terrible things are put upon her. I can honestly say I was a little sad when the book ended. It's the type of story that you could go on reading forever. Great job Billie Letts!

Summary: this was an over rated book for simple minds
Review: this book was an enormous disappointment. It's lesson was more for a third grader than an adult. It's unrealistic, hapilly-ever-after ending left me bored to tears, and begging for the pages to be shorter. i regret ever reading this book, because of it's childish storyline, and predictability. I expected more.
