Rating: Summary: Where the Heart Is Review Review: Where the Heart Is, is a heart-wrenching, down to earth novel about an abandoned 17 year old teen mother. Novalee Nation is stranded in Seqoyah, OK after her boyfried has left her at a Wal-Mart. With no place to go and no one to turn to, she lives in the Wal-Mart until she gives birth to her baby girl, Americus. Novalee has never had a family or friends, and she can't beleive the people of this small town want to love her and be her family and friends. It is hard for Novalee to let in love that she has never received before. The importance of family and friends shine through strongly in this novel. The theme is evident and has a great message. This book however is a little unrealistic, and should probably be read for leisure rather that academic purposes. It is a feel-good read, that will keep you reading until the end. It will also make you realize that your friends and family are your home, like they say in the book, "Home is the place that will catch you hen you fall. And we all fall."
Rating: Summary: Definitely Warms the Heart! Review: This was the first book I read by Billie Letts and I absoultely loved it! I couldn't put it down for a moment! The characters were true to life and lovable. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside as a read the last page and closed the book. This book gives you hope that good things really do happen to good people. All you have to do is beleive. If you want to read about memorable characters and a heart warming story with a "happy" ending, this book is right up your alley! It is definitley one you should read, if not own.
Rating: Summary: A realistic story Review: Where The Heart Is was a very good book with a realistic story. It was about somthing that could actually happed today. I liked the fact that it didn't focus on just one person the entire time, but told little stories about other people also.
Rating: Summary: Oh please Review: To be honest, I found it difficult to read this book completely through. It came to me highly recommended, and I must say I was extremely disappointed. The characters were unbelievable and annoying to me. The book was overly sappy and sentimental, and at times just plain ridiculous. And I am quite sure that no one bothered to proofread this edition. I noticed that someone mentioned that it is recommended to teens. I think that it is best left to those at a ninth grade reading level.
Rating: Summary: Really Touching Review: I've seen the movie 3 times and well most of you know, books give more detail and feel what the characters feel. I read this book and found how many things are alike in the movie, yet there is so much missed! It's wonderful because you do not know what was not included in the cinema version of the story. The story-line is rather interesting and although some technicalities (SP?) couldn't be realistic, the story could truely happen to one of today's teens.
Rating: Summary: Critacl review of Where The Heart Is Review: I read this book in 2 days. I came away a bit disappointed, not satisfied with the ending. At Times however I was on the edge of my chair, and couldn't read fast enough. I did see at the end of the book that it is recommended as a teen novel, and I do not think that all of the content is suitable for that age group. Graphic at times with material that I thought was quite violent. If you are looking for a fast read, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: What's not to love about the Wal-mart baby! Review: Humor. Pathos. Drama. Quirky characters. This book has it all.
Rating: Summary: My Review of Where The Heart Is Review: What a GREAT book this was! If you liked the movie, you will love this book. It's a little different from the movie in certain areas but overall I think it was better than the movie. The book is about a pregnant seventeen year old girl named Novalee Nation who is left at a Wal-mart by her boyfriend where she has her baby. As the story goes on Navalee meets all these intresting people that take her in and help her get through and escape the life she once had. Her little conlflicts with the number seven are pretty intresting also because she hates that number and when ever a situation comes up involving that number something bad happens to her. What I loved best about the book was the story because it was really deep and just the events that Novalee faces throughout the book were really sad. But in end everything goes Novalee's way and eventually she finds where her heart was.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy but inspirational Review: Yes, this book can be cheesy. However after reading books whose female heroines aspire to be rich and famous, you will find this book refreshing. Novalee is 17 and pregnant, and like millions of other girls seems to have no education, family or future. What she does have, is a good heart, hope, and people who feel compelled to be kind to her because of her sweet nature. And what she aspires to have is a normal life with simple pleasures. Btw, please do *not* see the movie before reading the book! You will have trouble imagining what the characters are like on your own.
