Summary: Captivating and Different
Review: I just couldn't put this book down. It was incredible. The life of Novalee was different and full of surprises. Her obsession with luck was funny, her talent with a camera was enriching, her love life was suspensful, and her friends were crazy and entertaining. The entire book was full of laughs, meaning, romance, and "mystery". I loved it.

Summary: Everywhere
Review: In this coming of age novel, Billie Letts throws the reader into a world of betrayal, pain and unconditional love.

Letts molds real characters, flaws to be told, into her work creating small town life with a ragged appeal. Perfection simply doesn't exist, as the characters conclude in this story.

This book opens the heart and the eyes to teenage pregnancy, homelessness and survival, without weighing down anywhere in it's pages.

Summary: A touching read....
Review: This story is about a seventeen year old girl named Novalee.Novalee is superstitious about sevens for some reason; but she's thirty seven pounds overweight, because of her baby that's soon to be born. Her boyfriends leaves her in the parking lot in California(I think. I'm not quite sure of the place.) Anyway's, she soon finds lovable, lifelong friends.(Lexie, Sister Husband..... Forney :)) A must read... I'm thirteen and loved it! (The movie isn't that bad, they added a few parts in that weren't in the book. I loved it at the end. People will know what I mean.)

Summary: A Celebration of the Spirit
Review: I bought this book because I wanted to see how an author could realistically tell the story of a pregnant woman who is abandoned in a WalMart store and what happens to her after such a scary, disheartening event. I didn't think it could be done. I was wrong. Novalee Nation has absolutely nothing going for her when she is abandoned by the father of her baby while she's inside WalMart buying shoes to replace the ones that fell through the floor boards of the car she and her boyfriend were travelling in while she was napping. With a little luck and plenty of determination, Novalee not only gets through this experience, but she finds out just what she's made of in the process. She has no reason to expect anything but hard knocks considering how lightly those who should be closest to her play with and abuse her affection. But she has a way of reducing the most complicated circumstances to their simplest elements and works out a way not only to survive but find new people who are worthy of her love and respect. In depending on the kindess of strangers, she makes friends with a varied assortment of quirky characters who add to the charm of this book. The thing about this book is not only its heartwarming message about love, friendship, loyalty, and truth. It's that Billie Letts has made it all realistic and honest so that the message stays with you after the story is finished. Novalee Nation is a tribute to those who believe that God helps those who help themselves.

Summary: What people ought to be like.
Review: There is dialogue towards the back of the book between Novalee and her ex. that is just amazing. The dialogue is about her exboyfriend's change of heart, his reaching out for redemption and about Novalee being willing to forgive her ex. even after he hurt her so bad. There are a lot of good people in this book and no judgement of these people's faults or their being less than perfect. It would be easy to make judgements and find fault with all the characters, but the author lets the characters be who they are, just like real people are.

Summary: Really Enjoyed It!
Review: "Where the Heart Is" is an amazing tale about a pregnant teen who starts her life from scratch. The characters warmed my heart and the friendship between the main characters is very endearing. The book is easy to read and very enjoyable.

Summary: Far better than the movie.
Review: The movie of the same name does not do this book justice. Apart from the many differences such as Novalee being afraid of the number 7 (it's the number 5 in the movie), there is much more detail and a lot more events in the book. I doubt they could have fitted Novalee's packed life into a 90 minute movie anyway. My daughter brought this book home from school as an english reading project. As soon as I picked the book up and read the first chapter, I was hooked. This book is well written and great reading for teenagers I think, because it lets them know being pregnant and alone isn't so easy. The movie tends to make Novalee's life look easy. As if everything drops into place for her but this book is much more realistic. If you want a 'can't put down, page-turner' then I fully recommend you read this great book.

Summary: Odd names
Review: Every one in this book had some odd name that reminds me of white trash. However, the characters are sweet and simple. They grow on you. I kept rooting for Novalie's love life. This is a great read for those who like weird stories.
