As the novel begins, we are introduced to a young seventeen-year-old girl named Novalee Nation. Novalee is pregnant and abandoned at Wal-Mart. This book takes us through her remarkable journey of life. Novalee's optimistic nature and people's generosity provide hope to any situation. Billie Letts uses amazing dialogue to portray a classic American tale. The main characters in this story are Novalee Nation and her daughter Americus Nation, born in Wal-Mart. How could you get more American than that? Pick it up and read for yourself!
Rating: Summary: TRITE and SHALLOW and OFFENSIVE Review: The best thing that can be said for this book is that it was an interesting idea. Unfortunately the writing does not meet the potential of the idea. The characters are unlikable, the plot reads like a bad TV sit-com, and there is a disgusting indecent scene that no one should want to read. If you still feel you must read it, borrow it.
Rating: Summary: Heart Warming Review: Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts, is a wonderful novel, which just warms the heart. It is about a pregnant seventeen-year-old girl who is dumped off by her boyfriend at Wal-Mart in a small midwestern town. Novalee Nation is a brave girl for going through all that she must endure. But with the help of newfound friends, she manages to discover who she really is and become a wonderful mother. One would think that with all the bad stuff that Novalee must go through, that the story would be depressing. But Letts focuses not on what bad stuff has happened, but on how Novalee has overcome it. With the compassion that Letts has for the characters, the reader begins to truly care for them. Letts' story really gets the reader to think of their own life and how their own friends have molded them into the person that they are today. I personally found this book to be one of the best books that I have ever read. I usually do not have strong opinions about books, but this one I do. I can see myself reading it again, as well as recommending it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: The Walmart Baby Review: Novalee is a character that many young women can relate to. She comes from a bad upbringing, falls for the wrong guy, and ends up pregnant. She finds herself in a bad situation 7 months pregnant with only $7.77 left to her name and her boyfriend runs off. Giving birth in asle 7 at Walmart only adds to her problems. Lucky for her she is well cared for by the town's "welcome wagon", Sister Hazel. Novalee finds true friendship and love. It just takes her longer to realize what being in love really feels like. The movie is good but the book is better.
Rating: Summary: Makes Me Want to Write. Review: I saw the movie based on this book first, and then I set out to find the book. I loved the story so much. I loved the characters and the names and the themes of Family (even those not related by blood), friendship, love and home that run through the whole book. I write short stories on line, but this book makes me want to write my own novel. I have a lot of stories to tell, my life hasn't been at all boring. Now I just have to believe in myself enough to do it. Just like Novalee Nation.

Rating: Summary: Reveiw of Where the Heart Is Review: Where the Heart is, is a tornado tearing through the pages and through your heart, only to blow away and leave you breathlessly realizing that your home is still standing. From the moment I picked it up, I was lost among the heartaches and triumphs of Novalee Nation, a young pregnant girl left at a Wal-Mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma. (...) I don't have any major complaints about this story. It was generally very heart wrenching as well as warming. I thoroughly enjoyed this book to its very last page. It had me in tears, on the edge of my seat, wanting to throw it down, and wanting to pick it right back up again. This book was an absolutely wonderful experience that shows the pure nature of the human heart.
