Summary: This rates as one of my most favorite books!
Review: I grew up in a small, rural community in Virginia and "knew" these characters! This book gives hope to the hopeless and demonstrates the impact of the human spirit. Each of us must look inside and find the courage and strength to make choices that will make our own breaks in life.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of my favorite books!
Review: This is a *wonderful* book, and I'm very glad that Oprah picked it for her book club. The book tells the story of Novalee Nation, a strong young woman who faces great challenges in her life but refuses to let them get her down. When the pregnant 17-year-old Novalee is dumped by her boyfriend at a Wal-Mart in a tiny Southern town, she quickly builds a family of new friends for herself and her daughter. Through these friends, Novalee finds the love and security that she never had when she was a child growing up. (If you like this book, you'll probably like "The Honk and Holler Opening Soon" by Billie Letts and "A Yellow Raft In Blue Water" by Michael Dorris. They're excellent books, too!)

Summary: This person paid Oprah to recommend this book
Review: I just want to know how much Billie Letts paid Oprah to suggest this book. It's dull, boring, and the plot leaves way too much to be desired. In many parts, the story dragged. Hey Oprah, get some sort of clue in the future. Heck, with our luck, this will be your next movie. I think it's time to terminate the Oprah Book Club!

Summary: A challenging situation for a strong woman
Review: This was a fabulous book! Billie Letts creates a wonderful character who discovers her strengths as a mother and learns that despite others opinions, she is a valuable human being. Although placed in the most trying circumstances, stranded in a strange city 8 or so months pregnant, she overcomes the odds and is able to resolve the past. She's a complex character with lovable quirks. A great read!

Summary: Just "OK"
Review: I read this book years ago and was surprised to see Oprah choose it for her Holiday book.

The story was sweet and well written for what it was. It is the kind of book that is nice to read on a chilly Sunday afternoon when you have nothing else to do. There is certainly nothing much to learn from it, and you very likely will not feel "changed" by the experience of reading it, but for a first attempt at a novel I think it was good. I'd compare it to Anne Patchett's Patron Saint of Liars, Anne Tyler's Saint Maybe...

Summary: Great Book!! Wonderful writing and a good story.
Review: Billie's use of words creates a world which is accessible by almost everyone who has the great pleasure of opening it and entering the world of Novalee. I remember the beginning of this book, and a wonderful dinner party whree Billie shared her story of a young woman enduring what so many young women do. Now, to see it not only published, but also award winning show that dreams come true. The book speaks to the young and old alike. It is a book daughters and mothers can share. Make it part of your Christmas list if you have any young women on your shopping list. They'll enjoy the book and the wisdom held within.

Summary: One of the Most Entertaining, Endearing Novels I've Read
Review: I was caught by the title of Ms. Letts other book, "Honk and Holler Open Soon," and picked this one up also. I couldn't put it down. It's one of those books I never wanted to end because I felt like these characters were people I'd go home to at the end of the day. I didn't want it to end because these books never end the way I want them to, since they ultimately have to end. "Where the Heart Is" happily fell into a category very seldom encountered in my reading....it had a perfect ending....the perfect ending to a wonderful story. THANK YOU, Billie Letts

Summary: WOW!!!!!
Review: I just finished this book, it is 3am, I loved it! The entire novel is wonderful, however, the ending is awesome. A great lesson in, doing the right thing! Read it, you won't regret it! :)

Summary: Small-town Americana
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to Ms. Letts next one. I have read some authors that are considered "literary geniuses," yet they did not convey the feelings and emotions that Ms. Letts did in this novel. I recommended it to many of my friends and co-workers and each one came back to tell me how much they enjoyed it as well. Thank you Ms. Letts!
