Summary: Easy reading.
Review: This current Oprah pick is a departure from her usual "women as victims" novels. It has almost a fable like quality to it. How an abused, homeless young girl succeeds in being a single mother is not explored in this work. It seems like a narrative in "It Takes a Village to Raise a Child". And what a quirky village it is.

The work manages to come to a "happily ever after" close. Oprah has succeeded in finding something more optimistic for her readers.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a quirky inspirational story
Review: where the heart is makes you cry tear sof joy, sadness, frustration, and laughter. eventhough it is quirky it isnt farfetched. you get to enjoy the characters so much that you begin to wish that you knew them. soon after you finish reading the book you will set out to do many of the lessons taught throughtout the book

Summary: Heartwarming!
Review: The name is perfect for this book...it pulls at your heart as you travel with the characters through small-town life in Oklahoma. I hope to see more from Billie Letts!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: mildy amusing but inaccurate
Review: The book was amusing no doubt, but I grew up in Oklahoma and now live in New Mexico. I found the characters missing the feel of these two great places. I've been to Santa Rosa many times and have never even seen a mosquito...NM is not known for their mosquitos...The choice names of the characters was a classic case of an author going "over the top." Why wasn't the indian boy from one of the five great tribes of Oklahoma instead of a tribe no one has ever heard of. Finally, does anyone out there believe that Sam Walton would uphold a 17 yr old pregnant teenage mother??? One last thing that really bothered me. Novalee won a Southwest photography contest. No one that I know thinks of Oklahoma as being in the southwest. Small annoyances; i admit. They are so numerous that they distract from the story.

Summary: Light read yet still with haunting scenes thrown in.
Review: I read this book because Oprah said it was not as dark as the other novels she had chosen. Granted, most of it was pretty light weight and predictable. But there were still scenes that kept me from sleeping and had me checking on my kids all night. Are there no novels without topics like child abuse involved? If you don't want dark pictures invading your sleep, I suggest you skip this one.

Summary: This was the first time I've read any Billie Letts
Review: And I was impressed! This is such a heartwarming story. Novalee has such hard luck with the people who are supposed to be the ones who care for her. I love the fact that she was able to make a family out of the friends she met through her experiences. The book does show us how home is where the heart is, not necessarily where you live.

Summary: Characters brought to life...
Review: I found the characters in Where the Heart Is to be very well described and I eagerly devoured the story. I especially thought the Walmart part was a unique twist to what could've turned into a predictable story.

Summary: Novalee Nation-- the new heroine for the ages.
Review: I just read this book during my Christmas vacation, and it was absolutely one of the best I've ever read. I usually trust an Oprah's Book Club selection to be insightful, humorous and all-around excellent, and I was definitely right about "Where the Heart Is." I'll never think the same about Wal-Mart again. Every time I walk through the sporting goods section, I'll picture Novalee and Forney on the floor, giving birth to Americus. Novalee reminds me so much of myself in so many ways. Of course, I'm a little older, and my circumstances are very different, but the way she thinks is very similar. She's brave, caring and persevering. I love these characters; they will definitely remain alive in my heart and mind.

Summary: sweet
Review: This is a fast reading , sweet book that I enjoyed very much. I didn't find any deep meaning and stopped looking after a while. Just let the characters and events flow. Love, friendship, bla bla bla....Nothing new. But the book is well written and hopeful

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: light hearted, fun
Review: I loved all the charactors, especially Sister Husband. I found it an easy fast read and would encourage everyone to try it!
