Rating: Summary: REALLY Interesting from beginning to end!! Review: The hardships that Novalee had encountered were extremely heartbreaking! The whole town seemed to be guardian angels always looking out for Novalee and baby Americus. I often wondered if they would have treated her the same way had she not been pregnant and found living in Walmart. Probably not! Author Billie Letts had done a great job in keeping me interested chapter through chapter.
Rating: Summary: Can't Put It Down, No Eating, No Sleeping 'Til it's done! Review: Oh my goodness, I was so drawn to Novalee and her trek to find "home". Very Kingsolverish. I couldn't stop thinking of what was going to happen next. I felt like I knew the characters and wanted good things for them. I actually had to pull my car over on the side of the road and finish a chapter. I couldn't wait to get home! Definately one of the most intense books I have read when it comes to human nature. If you want to know where the heart is, READ IT!!!!
Rating: Summary: The book I could not put down Review: I got this book on a friday night and by sunday I had only 70 pages left. This story of badluck meets Benny Goodluck is warmhearted and a book to pass on to ones you love. The people in the book are almost real enough to reach out and touch. It will hold in your mind for days. The small town has a big heart.A must read even if your not an Oprah bookclub reader.
Rating: Summary: I loved it, it's perfect, but not exactly. . . Review: I read this book on a day where I stayed home sick. My mother had a copy and I read in it bed while lying next to my dog, and loved the entire novel. I fell in love with the characters, wept with them and laughed with them. The book was not full of words the author used to show how big her vocabulary is so that laymen could barely understand it, and the plot is great. . .I wish all novels could be as entertaining. The closest I have found is "She Comes Undone" by Wally Lamb. If you liked one, read the other!
Rating: Summary: Another great Oprah pick!!!! Review: I read the book in one afternoon. The characters seemed real to me. Everyone knows someone in the book. Novalee had a lot of hard choices to make. Choices that could turn her into a bitter young woman or choices that could allow her to see the good in this world (through her photographs). She chose the latter to keep herself going. The rape scene may have been a bit over the edge but it added a reality to the book. No person lives their life totally aloe on this earth, and this book shows that. Family is what you make of it, and Novalee's family surrounded her with love and encouragement throughout the book which allowed her to show the compassion she showed her boyfriend at the end.A great read.
Rating: Summary: This is the best book I've read in a long time. Review: This is the first book that I read over the past few months that I didn't want to be over when I had finished reading it. I admired Novalee's strength and her will to survive. She also proved to be a wonderful, caring mother even though her mother was less than kind to her. I rooted for her throughout the book and I was happy for her when she finally found the happiness she deserved. I look forward to reading another one of Billie Letts' books.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER ! Review: This is the best book I have ever read. It made me laugh when Americus was playing doctor and it made me cry when Novalee finally told Foreny that she loved him and when Sister Husband died. Novalee had a rough life, but with all the wonderful people in her life, she was able to live her dream. I never wanted to put the book down and when I was done reading it, I started all over again. I felt like I was there, watching everything in living color- Novalee, Americus, Forney, Sister Husband, Moses, Willy Jack, Dixie, Benny Goodluck. Even though Novalee had a rough childhood, she took those bad experiences and turned them around! I have recomended the book to several people and they are reading it now and just like me- THEY CAN'T PUT IT DOWN !
Rating: Summary: Read it!!! "Just for the fun of it" Review: I don't understand why ANYONE would write a review like some I've read here. This book was a joy to read..nothing heavy, nothing to think too hard about. Just a more updated, more sophisticated version of "Pollyanna". And isn't Polyanna a "classic?"
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed reading this book, it was so true to life. Review: This book was very true to life. I could honestly see someone going through everything that she went through. The misfortunes with the number 7 and how it worked out in the end was exciting. When I read this book, I did not want to put it down. It was a great book in which I would recommend to anyone who would ask!
Rating: Summary: An intriguing, can't put down, heartfelt tale. Review: Done as an 8th grade English project, no one could have expected where this book would end up. Where the Heart Is became the best analogy of how we felt for Novalee's heart. Why? To start off with reading the back summary, one can only wonder what is going to happen when a seven month pregnant girl, who's only seventeen, abandoned at a Wal- Mart. The minute we opened up to the first page, we entered Novalee's world, to find a life long thrilling experience just waiting to be explored. What we discovered was an emotional rollercoaster combined with moments of tears, humor, and pure joy. Just because it says Oprah's Book Club doesn't mean that it's just for Oprah's age. We are the epitome of that example.
