Rating: Summary: Incredibly fulfilling and skillfully Review: What an extraordinary read! The essence of perseverance, endurance and love. The novel affirms the notion that everyone who comes into our life does so to teach us something. No matter how tragic or loving the teachers, the lessons learned become a part of us and changes our lives forever. What happens to us in this life is not nearly as important as what we learn and how we grow from the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and its characters. Billie Letts has made my personal list of favorite authors. . . and only after one book!
Rating: Summary: This is SUCH a good Book Review: I really enjoyed this book. I have to say, Oprah is the Queen of endorsing. WHERE THE HEART IS is an absolutley great read. Although the issues are not so lighthearted at times, the whole book was written in a style that was captivating. Novalee and her ensemble of friends will touch your heart, and long after you've finished the book, certain scenes will still give you the shivers.
Rating: Summary: Easy to read and fun too! Review: This book was easy to read and enjoyable. I like reading a book that you don't need a degree for, like Toni Morrison's books. Please, PLEASE don't choose any more of her books! Although this book was at times quite predictable, I found myself looking forward to sitting down and finding out what Novalee was up to. I have to admit; when Forney and Novalee drove past the church looking for Americus, I was thinking that they should look in the manger when it was mentioned. But the characters were heartwarming and likeable, at least most of them. It was nice to see Willy Jack 'get his'.
Rating: Summary: A Story With Heart Review: Where the Heart Is definately comes from the heart. Billie Lettes writes with such candor and ease that by the time the heroine has been dumped at Walmart there is no way a reader would dare to leave her there alone. Thanks!!! I loved it. I read this book several years before Oprah brought it to the public's eye. It definitely belongs in this winning circle. Pat Grissom email me at lgrissom@flash.net
Rating: Summary: A moving, interesting read Review: I love this book. I have read books by William Faulkner and John Steinbeck and found this book worthy as those. It teaches a lesson about good things can be found where you least expect them. Where the Heart is makes you smile and fall in love with all the characters. Novalee finds growth and kindness where she never thought to look.
Rating: Summary: It touches your heart! Review: I don't read often, but this book made really opened my heart and my mind. I couldn't put it down. No other book has ever really inspired me so much. I think that everybody should read this outstanding book, no matter what age.
Rating: Summary: 1999, Review: It truely was a great novel. It searched the depths of human kindness juxtoposed with that of human heartlessness. What it featured the best was the triumph of Novalee Nation, a girl turned woman who has her child in Wal-Mart and finds herself in a small Oklahoma town. After being dumped, literly, at the doors of a Wal-Mart store in a small town in Oklahoma, Novalee, broke and pregnant is forced to fight for her life and that of her child. I'm glad my bookclub made me buy this book, w/o it I would have missed just too much!
Rating: Summary: at a publishing comp Review: This book was wonderful. Full of characters that had great and passionate stories to tell. Novalee gives hope to young unwed mothers that with perserverance they can make great things happen in their own lives.
Rating: Summary: If you loved 'Fried Green Tomatoes', her Review: This is a very compelling story. The characters all have their 'quirks', but the author portrays them in a sympathethic and understanding manner. I got this book for Christmas, and had finished it by Boxing Day evening. I thought it was well worth the read.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: This story touched me in a way that no other book has. I must include that I rarely find a book I enjoy and finish reading. Although the characters are unconventional, their intentions are nothing but caring and loving. I recommend this book to anyone, male or female, over the age of 12.
