Summary: Neglected Child-Genius Finds Soulmate in Caring Teacher
Review: Roald Dahl is one of my favorite authors, and probaly my single favorite children's book author. Most people are familiar with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "James and the Giant Peach". Another fantastic book penned by this magical writer is "The BFG". "Matilda" is probably the least "famous" of the 4 mentioned, but it's right up there with the other great titles. -- "Matilda" is the story of a little girl who exhibits extraordinary, even astounding intelligence. This gift for learning is not encouraged by Matilda's dim-witted, selfish parents, who seem to be jealous of their daughter's brilliance. The only person who understands and appreciates Matilda is her teacher, a wonderful young woman who also suffered neglect and abuse as a child. -- I read "Matilda" with my class of 4th graders. They enjoyed the book very much and we had many productive classroom discussions. There are a number of "British" vocabulary words that need clarification, but my students "understood" the book completely by the time we finished. I highly recommend "Matilda" to anyone above the age of 9 to read for pleasure--and what a pleasure it is! -- There is a movie version of this book, but DO NOT rely on it to find out what the book is about! There are dozens of differences between the book and the movie. Not only are many details from the book omitted in the movie, but several scenes from the movie never appeared in the book! Rarely have I seen so many discrepancies! As always, the book is much better! Chances are excellent that anyone reading this book will always fondly remember "Matilda".

Summary: Funny!
Review: Matilda wants to get back on her parents and Miss Trunchbull who is the principal and is really mean, and her parents are just as bad. Matilda is a small girl who wants to go to school, but she doesn't know Miss Trunchbull is there. I think this book was a funny one. Matilda was one of the best books I ever read.

Summary: I wished I had read it earlier!
Review: I finished this book in less than 3 hours while commuting, and I thought to myself, did I have a deprived childhood or something to only read it when I am 18! I never knew that this book was so much fun which I thought looked a little daunting when I was little. Indeed, the English was stupendous and maybe a little deep for a 10 year old. 13-15 would be much more a right age. The story is very much a fairy tale, and yet at the same time blended with wit, adventure and mystery wrapped together in a very much believable context. Although it's a little grimly to read about the violence of the Trunchbull. Watch the movie, starring Mara Wilson, you will love it. Makes a great Birthday or Christmas gift. It's not too early to shop for the holidays, is it?

Review: I read half of it, and didnt care for it too much. I saw the movie a long time ago and have been wanting to read it but was dissapointed. i only got to the chapter called "Lavender" then stopped becos i had to go on vacation and return the book. IMO, i think the movie with Danny Devito as Mr. Wormwood is WAY better. more entertaining and funny and cute. The book was just too childish and farfetched compared to the movie. Hmm, i'm twisted. Ok. there's my 1 cent.

Summary: An Excellent Book
Review: Matilda is the story of a girl who is raised in an unhealthy household, with parents who don't care about her. Her parents don't understand that she is a child prodigy. She is only 6 and has read every book in the public library, and can do long division and more. Matilda finds out her teacher, Miss Honey, was raised the same way that she's being raised, not well. Her and Miss Honey become good friends, and in the end something wonderful happens for both of them, I won't tell you what. You'll have to read the book to find out.

Summary: This is my #1 favorite book.
Review: Matilda is a book about a girl named Matilda who is as smart as a 6th grader, but is in kindergarten. This book is very magical and, at times, funny, like when she uses a power she has to scare Ms.Trunchbull, the schools horrible headmaster. It is a very good book and I liked it a lot. Some other books the author wrote are good, but I think this one is the best. I would recommend this book to everybody. Put this one on your list!

Summary: The Best Book I've Ever Read
Review: I was only in kindergarten when I read this book for the first time. Since then, I've read it 8 times, once a year! You just can't put it down. The words and names that Mr. Dahl uses are amazing! He is by far the best author that I have ever read a story from, and this is his best yet.

Summary: A Children's Classic!!
Review: Truth be told, I am well over the required age to read this book, but I just can't help myself. This is a such a great book that I go back every once in a while and just read it over. It's that great of a book.

It's a fantastic fantasy ride with Matilda, a young genius who is suppressed by overbearing uncaring parents. She is very motivated and has taught herself everything.

As she grows older, 5 years old to be exact, she wants to go to school. Imagine! A child wanting to go to school?! But, Matilda's parents aren't to thrilled with their daughter's aspirations, but enroll her in school anyway.

But at school, Matilda has been singled out by Mrs. Trunchbull, the principal, as well as Miss Honey, a wonderful caring teacher. As Matilda develops her intelligence, she starts gaining amazing powers and that's when all the fun begins! Her antics lead to amusing consequences and are very enjoyable to read.

You wont want to miss this, child or adult. It's a book all about love and determination but with fun along the way. Trust me, you wont mind reading Matilda, it's a GREAT book!!!
