Rating: Summary: I stayed up way past my bed-time for this one. Review: You know a book is good when you keep saying to yourself, "just a few more pages". Until you have just a chapter or two left and then you have to put it down, because if you finish it, it will be over. I had this experience with Deja Dead. I've never read a Patricia Cornwall and I wouldn't want to compare Ms. Reichs to Ms Cornwall anyway. I will tell you that I'll read Ms. Cornwall now if she is as good as Ms. Reichs. This book is for those of us who crave knowledge into careers and lifestyles that we don't live. We are the folks that need more than minimum details, we need the whole picture. We want to walk away feeling like we learned more then just about a fictional story. I don't want to read a book about forensics, but wrap it around a good tale and I'm there. I like the geographic descriptions and the forensic detail, and yes I like a chick with smarts and an attitude(from one chick with smarts and an attitude to another)! Pick it up and give it a shot--if you can put it down after the fifth page--don't bother it's probably not a book for you. And if you liked this book you might like Plum Island by Nelson DeMille.
Rating: Summary: Definitely a page turner!!!! Review: I am not usually one to read murder mysteries but I am glad that I picked this book up! From the very beginning of the book the author has you captivated! I finished the book in two days because I couldn't put it down I had to find out what happened in the next chapter. The Kathy Reich has definitely done her research. The book is very believable. The detail to accuracy is astounding! I was so impressed I immediately went to the bookstore and bought the second book Death Dujour! I highly recommend both books!!!!
Rating: Summary: I was completely transfixed and couldn't put it down. Review: This book completely engaged my mind from the moment I picked it up. One of the best in the forensic crime genre.
Rating: Summary: I really liked it... Review: A great book, I really liked it, and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: A terrific read for mystery fans. It's a good thing I started reading this on the weekend, because I refused to stop until I was finished. Reichs spins a great plot with some interesting twists and turns, and keeps the suspense going. A little heavy on the detail with corpses and skeletons, but that just makes it feel like you're right there in the morgue with her while she's working. This isn't just slam, bam, let's hope I have a bestseller, either -- this lady can WRITE! I'm going to run out and buy her second book as soon as I get out of work today.
Rating: Summary: Forensically tight, somewhat predictable. Review: Having read John Douglas's "Mindhunter", Deja Dead treads on similar territory and may be a little overly categorical in profiling serial murderers. As in many "thrillers", the protagonist often commits unreasonable acts or follows-through with behaviours that almost beg to be trounced upon by the youth-frustrated, stalking serial murderer. This book, while easy reading, follows a somewhat predictable line while throwing in the conflicted "me against you" investigative officials fighting over turf and reputation. It is somewhat apparent that the author (writing about a divorced female protagonist) finds some male fictional characters she writes about as unsophisticated and only adequately presentable. Generally speaking through, the book reads quickly and has enough plot to encourage continued reading.
Rating: Summary: Well paced, but lacking depth Review: Deja Dead was a well paced, interesting book. As a fan of Patricia Cornwell, I was curious to see how Kathleen Reichs' writing stacked up. She writes intelligently, with many interesting details of the field (although the amount of detail of some procedures got tedious). I found the characters lacking depth, however. There was so little personal information and interest given out, it was hard to connect with the main characters. Tempe Brennan is a cold, critical heroine. She often pokes fun at other people. The ending was thrilling, and not a disappointment. The book is a good read, but up to not a Patricia Cornwell novel in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: It was a great book Review: This book was great, it keeped me on the edge of my seat. Once I got into it, it was hard for me to put it down. I was so impressed with the book I am about to go out and buy Death De Juir. Maybe it'll be as good as this one was. I had to read it for my anthropology class so I thought it was going to be boring and pointless, but it wasn't. I don't like to read, but I would love to read the next one.
Rating: Summary: I went looking for more of her books. Review: It is a shame, but she is truly writing about life everywhere today. I thought it was fast paced, kept me turning the page to find out what was around the next bend. I quit reading Patricia Cornwell sometime ago, her books all seemed the same after awhile, just new places. Hope KR doesn't fall into the same trap. Going to get her new book for sure.
Rating: Summary: A thrilling, graphic, novel that will take your breath away! Review: In Deja Dead, the author obvioulsly knows what she's talking about! It keeps you impatient to turn the page! I read it over and over again and it still gives me the same thrill. Everything is so real! I adored it. And, I'm only 14!
